I've been a Star Wars fan for most of my life, so I can see why some fans and viewers are a little annoyed by this movie seemingly being a carbon copy of modern day Star Wars. I have not been a fan of Disney's acquisition and destruction of such a beloved franchise with the most recent trilogy. Apparently neither was Snyder. He said in an interview that he wanted to make a Star Wars trilogy but the Disney execs shunned his pitch. So, he decided to make his own "Star Wars" film. This film has elements of Star Wars in it obviously with the "laser swords" and the ships going into space. But it also reminds me of the Chronicles of Riddick, Flash Gordon, and Serenity. I guess I consider it a nice substitute to a troubled Star Wars franchise and I'm perfectly okay with that. With that being said, the reason for my score and why I didn't rank it higher was because some of the fight sequences were not as fluid as I would have liked. Lighting and CGI was great and I really liked the brutality of the bad guy. Dialog between protagonists was a little boring at times and some scenes I feel could have been left out to help with the progression of the movie but overall I think Snyder did an impressive job under the circumstances. Solid 7/10.
I'm honestly convinced the people who make these movies already know that Tubi is going to give them a check, so they just put out anything at this point. What makes matters worse, is that the storylines they are trying to portray show black people in a negative light. I've yet to see these directors, writers of these stories, and producers put out movies that have uplifting stories of black love. It's always strippers, raunchy women, drug dealers, killers, or all of the above. It's honestly exhausting. I turned it off after 10 minutes (2 minutes of pre-credits). Every last one of the actors, actresses, writers, and directors obviously come from these type of backgrounds I suppose. If you come from this environment, don't make the excuse that this all you know. Change it and produce better content that breaks the stereotypes!!!
