Hellboy: The Crooked Man (2024)
Rubbish
This film is an absolute disaster from start to finish. The writers and directors should have been fired and banned from future projects. The central character, Hellboy, is disappointingly underutilized. Throughout the movie, he has minimal speaking lines, which is baffling given the rich lore and complexity of his character.
Instead of the dynamic action and engaging dialogue one would expect, the film relies heavily on eerie sounds and monotonous exchanges that do little to build tension or intrigue. The 90-minute runtime felt like an eternity as I struggled to stay engaged. Every scene dragged on, making it nearly impossible to maintain interest.
I can't stress enough how disappointing this experience was, especially for franchise fans. While some might feel compelled to watch out for loyalty, they'll likely end up frustrated by the lackluster execution. If you value your time, I strongly recommend avoiding this live-action adaptation. It simply fails to capture the essence of Hellboy and instead delivers a tedious farce that misses the mark entirely.
High Potential (2024)
Horrible and ...
By episode three, it's painfully clear that this show is not just a copy; it's a cringe-inducing experience that leaves viewers longing for the sophistication of its predecessor.
The leading actor's performance is particularly grating. Instead of embodying a complex character with a supposed 160 IQ, she comes off as irritatingly one-dimensional. If I were the captain in this narrative, I would have been tempted to send her consultant packing after the first few scenes. The character's attire- reminiscent of someone who might work out of a trailer does little to instill confidence in her supposed brilliance. It feels less like a purposeful character choice and more like a misstep by the wardrobe department.
While the supporting cast brings much-needed vitality to the show, they cannot compensate for the lead's shortcomings. Their performances shine, but they are ultimately overshadowed by the main character's inability to connect with the audience. The dynamic is reminiscent of shows like Monk or Psych, but this series fails to capture the charm and wit that made those shows engaging.
Given the track record of adaptations from "stupidwood," it's hard to be optimistic about the show's longevity. If the trajectory doesn't change, it seems destined for a swift cancellation, much like its French counterpart. I'm willing to give it a season in the hope that it finds its footing, but for now, it earns a dismal one-star rating. Suppose you're looking for a clever, engaging mystery comedy. In that case, skip this one and revisit the originals.
Wynonna Earp: Vengeance (2024)
WE-V your better off skipping
"Wynonna Earp: Vengeance," the TV movie continuation of the beloved Syfy series, has left fans disappointed. The acting falls short of the series' usual high standard, feeling phoned-in and lacking emotional depth. The script is weak, with clunky dialogue and forced attempts at humor. The plot feels rushed and uninspired, failing to capture the show's captivating storytelling.
While die-hard fans might find some enjoyment in seeing the characters back on screen, "Vengeance" is a pale imitation of what came before. It's best to skip this movie and remember the series for its earlier strengths.
The Crow (2024)
The Crow (2024): A Pale Imitation of a Gothic Masterpiece
"The Crow" (2024) attempts to resurrect the iconic 1994 film but instead delivers a lifeless and cringe-worthy experience that tarnishes its predecessor's legacy.
The film's most glaring flaw is its utter disregard for the source material. Gone is the dark, gothic atmosphere, the haunting music, and the brooding intensity of Brandon Lee's portrayal. Instead, we get a generic, angst-ridden teen movie with shallow characters, a nonsensical plot, and laughable attempts at emotional depth.
The acting is uniformly poor, with the female lead's performance being particularly harrowing. The antagonists are forgettable, and the protagonist's development is rushed and unconvincing. The pacing is uneven, lurching from one scene to the next without any sense of purpose or direction.
Even the iconic crow makeup fails to impress, a stark contrast to the original's striking visual style. The film's aesthetic is bland and uninspired, lacking the gothic charm that made the original so memorable. The soundtrack is generic and forgettable, a far cry from the haunting melodies of the 1994 film.
"The Crow" (2024) is a cinematic abomination that fails on every level. It is a disrespectful and unnecessary remake. Avoid at all costs.
Verdict: Avoid at all costs. This film is an insult to the original and a waste of time and money.
Doctor Who (2023)
Why is this not apart of the orignal series?
In its third iteration, the Doctor Who series returns, distinct from the classic 1963 and the 2005-2022 Doctors. Why the separation and start a new season 1? Although the characters persist, the stories fail to ignite. One wonders what has befallen the once imaginative scribes. Has COVID dampened their creativity, or perhaps the mandatory shots left them with Swiss-cheesed minds?
Regrettably, Russell T. Davies seems to have lost his touch. The 15th Doctor fails to captivate, and if Disney's involvement is any indication, it may result in yet another lackluster production, akin to their recent endeavors.
More disappointment to come.
Cult Killer (2024)
No Thrill Kill Cult for this Cult Killer. YAWN
"Cult Killer," a film that initially enticed viewers with the presence of Antonio Banderas, sadly fails to deliver on its promise of a thrilling and suspenseful experience.
The film's pacing is its most glaring flaw. Instead of gripping the audience's attention, it meanders leisurely, lacking real thrills or drama. A seasoned actor, Banderas is relegated to a supporting role, spending most of his screen time delivering incoherent lines.
The plot, which revolves around a private investigator and a cop investigating the murder of a mentor, has potential but is executed poorly. The antagonist's mission to eliminate child abusers feels forced and unrealistic.
Predictability is another major issue. The story follows a classic formula, leaving little room for surprises or twists. Viewers can easily guess the outcome from the beginning, resulting in a lack of excitement and intrigue.
Unnecessary dialogues and scenes further detract from the film's quality. The fight scene with guards feels out of place, and the excessive violence lacks context and meaning.
"Cult Killer" is a wasted opportunity. Its predictable plot, unnecessary dialogues, and out-of-context violence fail to captivate audiences. Despite a talented cast, their performances cannot salvage the lackluster execution. Save your time and consider watching Paint Peel.
A Murder at the End of the World (2023)
When Slow Becomes Stale
It's perplexing to see high scores attached to the first episode of this series, especially when compared to other movies that are so much better. The initial promise established in the first five minutes quickly dwindles as the show unfolds, leaving audiences questioning the basis for such elevated praise.
The narrative, which proves to be both uninteresting and agonizingly slow.
The show initially captivates its audience with a talented ensemble and a promising plotline, but the narrative takes an unexpected detour into the realm of technology, resulting in a jarring shift towards absurdity. What was meant to be a gripping murder mystery veers off course and unintentionally transforms into a comedy, altogether abandoning any semblance of maintaining a serious tone. The deliberate pacing, intended to establish a slow and methodical atmosphere, fails to achieve its desired effect. Instead of generating tension and raising the stakes, it comes across as excessively pretentious. The storytelling lacks the necessary substance to justify such a plodding pace, leaving viewers grappling with an experience that feels more haughty than truly engaging.
The show's attempt to feed the audience inaccurate information adds to the frustration, underestimating the intelligence of its viewers. The result is an inexplicably slow narrative that fails to captivate, leaving audiences questioning the value of their time invested. In the end, what started with potential ultimately succumbs to a pacing misstep, making it difficult to overlook the series' shortcomings.
Expend4bles (2023)
If you are a fan of the series watch it but dont expect much.
He fourth installment is undeniably the weakest in the series. The subpar special effects, coupled with the advanced age of several actors, cast a shadow of doubt over the film's authenticity. It's evident that some cast members appear past their prime, making it hard to buy into their roles as elite operatives. The juxtaposition of aging actors in intense Middle East combat scenarios is glaring, and it's as if they belong in a retirement home rather than on the front lines. The movie's action sequences have notably strayed from the gritty, authentic style of the first Expendables film, now favoring fast-paced, cut-and-clip fight scenes. This departure from the series' roots is a disappointment for fans, as the first Expendables set the standard for unapologetic, hard-hitting action that is sorely lacking in this lackluster fourth entry.
Fast X (2023)
Jason Momoa ruins it
OMG JM starts off by ruining this movie. Nothing he does for this movie was good. I like the cast of actors in this next iteration of FF but JM char tries to be The Joker to Vin's BATMAN and it does not work.
If you are into the franshise then you will enjoy the fast cars and action sequences but everything else falls short with most everything being predictable. The previous enemy are now frienemies to stop a new enemy (JM). The existing cast/crew lost their humor from what was once a good time (Roman/Tej). Nothing sparcs and everything is an action novel. Sad to see such a great start ending in a car crash.
Citadel: Time Renders Us Enemies (2023)
Where have i seen this one befoe??Oh yeah True Lies TV show
Where have i seen this one before??Oh yeah True Lies TV show. I guess use and repeat from other shows. One organization is trying to defeat the other because oh they hurt people so my lifes mission is to bring them down. And who is it bringing them down a woman. WIth True Lies it too 13 eps. With this 5 to explain why they are doing this...
It good there is a writes strike because nothing good has been produced for the last decade. You have some one offs but for the most part they are picking from the same scripts doing a a slight modification but the story is the same. In this case between TL and C. TL eveyone keeps their memories and this one it is a journey to find the truth. The side stories are better and so is the acting. TL is horrible but getting more disappoint as the story goes on. C has less action and more boring drama. I do not see many staying for the long term.
Dead Shot (2023)
The Northern Ireland conflict - 70s era
First they need to change the marque it is not about a girl but about two men on different sides.
In the early 1970s, O'Hara, an IRA member, is ambushed while taking his pregnant wife to the hospital and his wife is accidentally shot by a British soldier named Tempest. Tempest is promoted for his shooting skills and transferred to London to hunt down IRA members. O'Hara also heads to London, where he reunites with his girlfriend and seeks revenge against Tempest, putting his girlfriend in danger. The story follows O'Hara's pursuit of revenge.
It slow pace but worth watching all the way through. It is rated a six because some of the characters were not developed well enough though we understand much of the the why they do what they do.
The Best Man (2023)
Based on many Streaming Action this is a soild 5
So the acting is not over the top but it is not bad. You can tell that much of the dialog is meh but as far as story line goes this is a solid 5. Much better than what has being coming out lately so it is worth a view.
It is nothing new from most action B movies but it at least flowed and though very predictable you watch while playing a game on your phone. The ending however was very anticlimactic and again predictable.
Watch it if you are a Wilson or Lundgren fan though they are not the main characters. It is suppose to be the Best Man but even he does share screen time with everyone else.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
D&D but a bit boring in nature
Everyone is given this movie high praise but it is a box office flop. Why? Maybe because it is a made for TV type of movie with little to nothing new. If you are just comparing this to D&D movies and games then i can see this as a 7 but if you are adding all movies (LOTR) then this is a 5 with modest acting and cartoonist FX.
The main character who is a Harper (Bard) should be able to do more than plan and play a flute. The Paladin was nothing more than an OLD SPICE commercial. The wizard and his self doubt is/was pathetic and the elf did little to nothing to impress. Holga was also a bit meh and should have been more.
I say go watch it and enjoy it for what it is. A live action D&D game that is family friendly.
The Night Agent (2023)
Boring
DIane Farr and the VP are in on the conspiracy and it is easy guessed in ep1 and revealed in ep6. However,r eps 7-10 which I have not watched seem to play out with a story within a story. The 1st 5 mins of ep1 is great and then total crash a burn.
You want the two assassins to win and kill everyone so this would just end. The search for proof is something out of. It is reminds me of The Da Vinci Code movie but less interesting. Many back stories on each eps does give you a bit of information on each character but nothing that makes you care. The quest remains in ep7-10 if the president was involved so I continue to watch and determine if S2 is worth exploring if they have it.
