Brothers in Football (2018)
Great documentary
The movies shows the story of a very traditional British amateur football team which inspired the naming of Corinthians Paulista, two-time world champions (2000 and 2012).
The documentary also follows the preparation for the friendly match between the clubs in Sao Paulo. The event highlights the passion for the sport and how much the fans of each club love their teams.
Lazzaro felice (2018)
Great
There are lots of things that make "Lazzaro Felice" good. Or better saying, very good. The cast is talented, the plot is interesting, the photography is beautiful and, come on!, it is always nice to hear Italian, one of the most beautiful languages on Earth.
Gi-eok-ui bam (2017)
Much better than you think
Maybe what you read about the plot is not enough to attract your attention. But as the minutes pass, what seemed to be a drama becomes much more. The plot has twists and we just can't stop watching. I highly recommend it!
Cat People (1982)
Interesting plot... the the soundtrack highlights
This is good film, with good cast. All through the movie we a re interested and involved. The action and thriller are very well conducted.
But, really, the best part is David Bowie's "Cat People". Bowie will always be missed.
First They Killed My Father (2017)
Shocking
It is terrible to know that this film is not merely fiction, but based in facts. How far can humans go in search for power?
Because is is based on real facts, this film has this documentary-like pace and it shocks even more.
Si yo fuera tú (2018)
Almost as good as the Brazilian original
I have always liked remakes and then I could not help watching this one. The original movie, "Se Eu Fosse Você" was a massive success in Brazil and this made me interested in this Mexican version. And I can tell I laughed a lot. The plot is great and the cast does very well.
Chuck Norris vs. Communism (2015)
A good film starts with its title
Come on! We all got interested in this film after reading its title, right? Well, I think so. "Chuck Norris vs Comunism" says a lot and yet it triggers a wish to know more.
Living in a democratic country, and therefore having free access to all the films mentioned in this documenatry, I couldn't help thinking "oh my" when I saw this. What was so easy and obvious here, demanded such an effort and secret operation in Romania.
But skipping the political discussions and the obvious difficulties of Communism, this film is about the love for art.
Collateral Beauty (2016)
Great film
This is a good film which attract our attention and that has some surpirses. Will Smith, once more, show how good actor he is. The plot in very interesting and emotional.
Wolkenbruchs wunderliche Reise in die Arme einer Schickse (2018)
Very interesting
In the big picture, it is a comedy..or maybe a drama. But, taking a more detailed look, it is a cultural movie. Watching it is a great dive into Jewish worls and how it interacts with the outside habits. A great film that should be seen with interest.
We're the Millers (2013)
Not that cliche. Good!
When the film starts we feel it is one of those hundreds of American comedies. Well, it is not that wonderful thing, but it is funny and has some twists, that give points to the final grade. I liked it.
Estou Me Guardando Para Quando O Carnaval Chegar (2019)
It may be a bit limited to Brazil culture ...
... but try it. The photography and the plot of this film may be a little difficult to understand if you are not Brazilian, but giving this film a chance is really a good things. First because it reveals an background full of nice things to see and to debate. Second because of the twist of the plot. By "twist" I mean that the firt two thirds of the narration deals about jeans the city of Toritama make. Then, in the last part, we understand the title of the film and another narration begins.
Really, I think you should try it.
Kocan Kadar Konus (2015)
Turkish movies make us laugh
The plot does not go so far from hundreds of American comedies. But the fact the film is spoken in Turkish and brings actors we don't see very often really makes it worth trying. And it is funny, very funny.
Rattlesnake (2019)
I expected more
This is one of those films who promise of thing, but don't really give us that. From the teaser and from what we see in the first minutes, we expect something more drama-oriented. But then things go in other directions and the result is a bit frustrating.
The Two Popes (2019)
Great dialogues
When two great actors get together in a good film, you always expect something good. And you get it here. The film happens around the two Popes conversations and these two masters of acting make the long talks flow beautifully.
Although the two characters are often in opposite positions, in no moments the plot plays for this or that side. And that's the positive aspect of "The Two Popes".
It is also important to highlight the direction. Simply great.
Sonora (2018)
Breath taking
You know those films which you can not take your eye off. Well, this is one is like this. From minute one to the end you feel like we're there, with the characters. Goof performances, great direction and beautiful photography. I really recommend it.
The Irishman (2019)
Another masterpiece
It's one more movie about crime. And it's impressive (amazing? surprising? revolting? shocking?) how mafia crime films attract people to the movie theaters. Well, this is another thing to discuss at anther forum.
The thing is that Scorsese gives us, for the 1000th time or more, that he really can make films. By far one of the best director ever.
Starring this great and long film the one I like to see as my favourite actor: Robert De Niro. This guy can play any kind of role hands down.
Together with him, Al Pacino, who is also a great actor who speaks through his eyes and expressions.
And then we come to Joe Pesci. Ok, we have always known he's a very good actor. But in this movie he does in masterly. In one of the scenes (I'm not going to spoil anything) his character is not talking. He just looks at De Niro while he talks to Keitel (who is in another of his generally great performances) talking. But Pesci's face tells us everything. It is something like "I told you, man". Genius' work.
The Breadwinner (2017)
Horror and tragedy beatifully told.
What I like about this kind of movie is the fact they tell horrific passages of life in a soft, discreet and beautiful way. By beautiful I mean the animation and the child point of view of something even adults have difficult to understand. This is really a must see.
Loving Vincent (2017)
Great surprise
Not that a movie about Van Gogh surprises us, but I really didn't expect much of this one. Why? I don't know. Anyway, I started seeing this one and the fact it is an ... animation (?) made me feel "what is this"?
And then things started happening and I liked the fact a film about art should really be done in art ... literally.
And it's amazing how the artists who made the paintings could show expressions and photography. Simply great.
Raul: O Início, o Fim e o Meio (2012)
A Must-See
Those who are not Brazilian may not understand who Raul Seixas was, and that's a pity. The thing is that this documentary is a great look into the life of one of the most impacting artists Brazilian music has ever seen.
Seixas' melodies were simply great and his lyrics were impossible to ignore for they were full of meaning and things to debate. He shocked many people with some of his messages and his performance on the stage and his videos were landmarks in our musical history.
This movies is worth watching.
Into the Woods (2014)
beautifully great!!
There is no bad point in this film. Great direction, beautiful songs and a crazy - in a good way - plot mess everything we had known about the fairy tales. This is a must seen, really.
And if there were a contest to choose the best actress ever, Meryl Streep would win, hands down.
The Dirt (2019)
Great band, great movie
I have always liked Mötley Crüe and that was great to see this film. The plot may be shocking for many people, but i see it as a real pictire of what happened in the scene in the 80's. Another ting to note is the soundtrack. Great!!!
Les vacances du petit Nicolas (2014)
Light, funny and beautiful
Colourful and nice film. It is so good to see routine facts from kids view.
O Duelo (2015)
Very nice, light and smart
This is really a beautiful film, with a great plot and a very talented cast. The plot keeps your eyes on the screen all the time. I highly recommend it!
Velvet Buzzsaw (2019)
By far the worst film I've seen in a long (very long) time
A total lose of time. Poor script, terrible performance - a frustration considering the great cast - total lack of interest. I strong recommend you do something else before you decide to watch it. Bad, very, very bad!
Sam Was Here (2016)
Very confusing, makes you think
This is a good film, I think. But what I mean by good is the fact that you need to think for some time after the 72 minutes of projection to understand the story. Well, at least to think you understand. By the comments about "I Was Sam" we see that lots of questions were left unanswered, so don't watch this film if you don't like to twist your brain trying to figure out the plot.
SPOILERS!!!
If you haven't see the film, please don't keep on reading this text. This is my interpretation of the film and I repeat: stop reading this if you haven't see the film!
In my opinion Sam did kill the little girl and somehow lost his memory. He then wandered around, thinking, on his sick mind, that he was a door to door salesperson. I understand the guy in the end, seen from his back only, is someone connected to the girl. He, I think, decided to have his revenge. He somehow figured out Sam was coming to town and emptied the city and plotted to kill Sam, together with those masked men, who hated Sam for what he had done. The radio show, I think, was staged by Eddy and the other people - all radios were tuned to the same station and left on even though everyone had left home. It seems to me everybody prepared the scenario for Sam. The red glow would be something from his perturbed mind.
