"Looks like University of Illinois!" 😂😂 Let's be honest. A movie with a scene of 1980s Tom Cruise home alone dancing in short shorts is practically destined for a 5 star rating 😂. Seriously though, this is easily one of my favourite films of all time. Amazing original score and music choices, so many iconic lines in a brilliant script, great cinematography and an awesome Tom Cruise performance (as always) make for a hell of an enjoyable ride. If you haven't seen this movie, I strongly suggest you do so, you won't regret it. Also I legit think someone should do some research on consumer demand for Ray-Ban Sunglasses before and after this movie was released.
An interesting and enjoyable watch, but a little slow at times. Irrational Man is one of those movies where going in blind will certainly make for a better experience. Emma Stone gives a great performance in this and Joaquin Phoenix is amazing as always, and for the most part there is some great dialogue and chemistry between them. Probably would've been a much lower rating if not for Joaquin Pheonix's performance, who I am yet to see in a bad movie. It isn't the masterpiece I was hoping for from a Woody Allen film, and certainly does not compare to Midnight in Paris or Blue Jasmine, but it's still an enjoyable one and worth a watch.
My expectation going into this movie was fairly high and even so, Ruben Östlund's Triangle of Sadness still blew me away and exceeded my expectations. In fact, I would go as far to say that this is the most compelling and effective social commentary I've seen in a movie, an area Östlund is particularly known for his ingenuity in, with his previous films such as The Square and Force Majeure receiving critical acclaim for this level of creativity and originality.
After going into this movie blind, the twists and turns were unbelievable satisfying, and the cliffhanger ending was another interesting decision from Östlund, one that I can't figure out whether I like or not. Without spoiling much, I was absolutely hysterical during the vomit-filled sequence halfway through the film.
Other than that, the other major thing that stood out in this movie goes by the name of Harris Dickinson. The entire cast is great in fact and Woody Harrelson was particularly amusing as usual, but Dickinson stole the show with some superb acting that was so incredibly real at various points throughout the movie - his character was definitely one with more emotional depth than others, but this was also perfectly complimented by his humour and the comedy provided by others such as Woody Harrelson and Zlatko Buric, who played Dimitry, and was absolutely hilarious.
Ruben Östlund's Palme d'Or winning Triangle of Sadness is without a doubt one of the best movies of 2022 so far and definitely deserves your time.
