Firstly, this movie ain't as bad as the negative reviews here would have you believe. While it was somewhat predictable in spots and felt like a movie that could have been made in the 80's or 90's, the storyline was still interesting and the actress in the lead role I thought was pretty good. I would have probably enjoyed this more at the Cineplex but, as a streaming movie, it's worthy of at least checking out when you're in the mood for an old-school suspense/horror flick. So, keep an open mind next time you can't seem to find a scary flick in the vast world of streaming horror and at least check out the trailer.
I love horror anthologies and really was hoping this would be a good one. I'm 64 and recall seeing original Twilight Zone episodes as a child back in the early 60's and have been a lifelong fan of TZ, Night Gallery, as well as Amazing Stories, Masters of Horror, Tales From The Darkside, Ray Bradbury Theater, the original Creepshow, a few of the Stephen King films through the years. So, I really wanted to like this Guillermo Del Toro series on Netflix but, like several other reviewers on here, I enjoyed the first couple of episodes but after that, quickly lost interest. The stories are too long and dull - if they had been no more than 30 or 40 minutes max, they might have packed more punch. Also, I found Del Toro's opening monologues a little hard to hear as his voice is not one that projects well. So, if there's a second season I hope they shorten the length of the episodes - perhaps feature two 25-min. Segments per episode and maybe consider a new host for the opening monologues. I think George Clooney has a voice that would work well with this kind of show.
I've watched just about all episodes of this series and this one stands out as unusually creepy for a network TV program. The title character is the scariest thing I've seen since the debut of Freddy Krueger except Bag Man is even scarier, IMO. If I were to recommend an episode of the series to watch first, this would be the one. Ignore negative reviews and check this out now on Netflix.
