Viruman (2022)
Viruman is not a winner
Viruman does not fair well and seems nothing is new. Just a old fashioned storyline with estranged son saving other family members when they are in trouble. Aditi Shankar's acting is easily forgotten. Let's give more opportunities for star kids, directors kids and all other big shot celebrity kids. What is one more? Even Karthi and Surya, Vijay, Prashanth, and most of the current acting folks are all product of neoptism. Let's stop this and hire real talents outside of film industry who are struggling to get in.
Saranya Mam the exact Mom roles she has been fot years. Sorry this movie is a disappointment.
Anyway there is nothing much to say about this movie:(
Mouna Ragam (1986)
Revathy and Maniratnam Excel!
Maniratnam's gem of a masterpiece. This movie tops all of his movies. A simple tale of a free spirited bubbly Madras college girl in 1980's who doesn't hesitate to speak her mind and voice her opinion. Her relationship with her family, her past love and her married life are well portrayed. Divya remains in our mind even after 37+ years and one of the main reason is that Maniratnam's casting Revathi. An absolutely brilliant actress who steals the show. Mohan, Karthik both give out their career best performance. Dialogues in this movie paved way for typical Maniratnam movie dialogue. PC Shriram's camera magic with Mani started here. The best bgm and gem of album from Mastero himself.. Mouna ragam remains one of the beloved bgms piano students want to learn. Oho megam vandhadho created waves in 1986 putting Revathy's dance and singing in the rain the hottest song in town. Revathy, Maniratnam, Sundaram Master showed tamil cinema that rain song doesn't have to be vulgar and heroines don't have to wear white costume when wet(directors take note)
Kambilipoochi dialogue , Mr. Chandramoul line, en idhyam enkittaila, enkau vivakarathu venum. Adu endha kadaila kidaikuma? These dialogues are all still popular and will remain popular. Everything in this movie is great. There is no huge sets or costly costumes or fancy foreign locale, all shot in 1986 Madras and New Delhi with stunning visuals. Great work cast and crew! Brilliant work Maniratnam Sir!
Thevar Magan (1992)
A Masterpiece!
A Classic Masterpiece which cannot be recreated. Kamalhassan wears many hats and this movie shows his talent as an writer. His screenplay is a masterpiece. Each and every scene and character and dialogues are amazingly crafted and executed by another legend the director, Bharathan! PC Shriram's cinematography adds magic to the movie. Every aspect of technical brilliance is seen. Illayaraja Sir's one of the finest albums. You will keep humming to Inji Iduppazaghi (kamal sir and Janaki amma's voice!!) to till this day and in future(30+ years and counting)
Legends Sivaji Ganesan sir takes over the first half and the second half belongs to Revathy Mam!! Wow she comes in only for about 40 mins but steals the show even with Kamalhassan in the frame. That shows her exceptional acting as an innocent village girl. No wonder she swept all awards for best actress in 1992. Of course, Kamalhassan wrote the script and created these characters. He should be very proud for creating this magic. What can I say about his acting, he is absolutely amazing. Vadivelu, his best performance is in this movie. When you ask me one of the cruelest villian of tamil cinema, I would say Nassar Sir what a performance. Gouthami Mam's best performance in her career! A must watch!! Nothing can match this movie. I would easily say this movie should be one of the top 10 movies from the Indian film industry. Bravo team Thevar Magan!
Magalir Mattum (1994)
A #metoo movie from 1994!
Hats off to Kamalhassan Sir for thinking far ahead in early 90s to make movie inspired by the English movie 9 to 5. This 1994 Magalir Mattum is a must watch for all women and it is made for women. The real metoo movie released way back in 1994 which really suits to current events. Writer Crazy Mohan Sir and director Singeetam Srinivasa rao Sir the genius team behind Magalir Mattum all men made a women centric movie! A serious issue was addressed in a comedy. The movie worked well because of the chemistry between Revathy Mam, Urvashi Mam, Rohini Mam. They were amazing and the dialogue delivery throughout the movie between these 3 are wonderful. Pasi Sathya Mam who always portrays maid character role was given a Supervisor role and she does it with ease. Revathy Mam kills it during climax by driving all vehicles possible from Car, Bullet bike, to truck!! Sexual harassment at work place is a serious thing and this movie puts the issue in spotlight without any inappropriate or vulgar scenes or dialogues and makes the audience think while keeping the entertainment on.
Nassar Sir proved that he could be comedy villain and one of a kind character artist. The word mukkan suited him in a nice way. Nagesh Sir another genius proved he can act while dead. Bravo! A must watch fun treat.
Salaam Venky (2022)
Brilliantly directed movie with stellar performances
Saw this movie today. Excellent performances and heart warming. Be warned: this is not your typical bollywood masala type movie. The story is the hero. Performances are top notch. Direction is brilliant. Ravi Varman's cinematography is beauty and visuals are terrific. Brilliantly crafted movie. Again this is a emotional tear jerker/ intense and will touch your soul and you will value your life more. Every cast member has done justice to their roles. The little love story in fhe first half is so beautiful. Music is great and loved how songs were taken.
Hats off Revathy Mam, Kajol, Vishaljethwa and the entire cast and crew.
