I foolishly got excited when I saw the rating (both IMDB and critics) of this because I haven't seen a decent horror/suspense since Silence of the Lambs (or Seven, if that was newer). Given Mr. Cage hasn't acted in much of anything that's been any good for some time, I should have known better.
There is pretty much nothing in this movie that makes any sense, including the opening scene where the FBI goes in search of the killer. The plot is ridiculous, and the pacing is such that I struggled to not just give up out of boredom. Very little action takes place. And for God's sake directors, if you expect us to read something on a piece of paper or phone or envelope, would you please film it as such. Show a closeup of the writing at an angle where you can actually read it, and leave it on the screen long enough for a normal reader, not a speed reader. Also, if you are going to name a character 'Long Legs', shouldn't he have long legs? I have no idea why this particular villain looked like he did. It looked like they were trying to use a variation of 'Art the Clown' without the clown make-up. And the mannerisms of the villain made zero sense as well.
I'm not even sure why I gave this movie 3 stars. I guess it's because I've seen worse, I think. Definitely not recommended.

I thought the original, 'Bull Shark', was actually decent except for the stupid ending. Unfortunately, in this lame effort, the stupidity extended to the entire movie. As with the original, I didn't think the acting was bad if you disqualify the first male character we meet. I imagine he won't be getting hired again anytime soon with this in his portfolio. But from the opening attack, which is totally unbelievable, to the completely inane final scene, this film is filled with one head-shaker after another. One of the worst features is the shark graphics. Which appear to be out of a first-generation video game. I don't think the shark they show is even a bull shark. At one point, the thing even changes shape. Also, it appears to be a baby, which would make the amount of attacking it does rather suspect. On top of that, in this huge 300 mile lake (I think that's what was said in the first film), the thing appears to occupy a 50 ft radius. And there's not much to the film other than the quest to kill the shark, which again, is done in a really stupid manner. Definitely not a successful sequel. I can't believe there is yet another one.
I must have watched a different movie from many of the reviewers. Seems that many of these low-budget 'b' movies get bad reviews for the acting, but I thought the acting here was just as good as it is in most movies. I don't think anyone was 'mailing it in.' As for the movie itself, the plot borrows pretty heavily from Jaws, and the ending (before the credits) is pretty stupid, but the film held my interest throughout. As others have said, there isn't much shark action, and there is no gore, which I found disappointing, but of all the shark movies I've seen, which numbers quite a few, this ranks better than average. And there are even a few moments of intentional comic relief that I chuckled at. Certainly not a must watch, and if you're looking for people being devoured on screen, you'll be disappointed, but there are worse out there.
