i saw this film at the Austin film festival this past Saturday night. i have to tell you it was an amazing film. first off, it has a great cast that features Ernie Hudson, Finn Carter (from Tremors), Jamil Smith, and Steven Williams. this film beats out Berger's earlier film A Walk in the Park. this film is beautifully shot (on dv i might add) the acting is really great, & you can tell that the cast has great chemistry with each other, the characters are realistic and so is the plot line of the story. i laughed a lot during this film. what i like about this film is that it has these dramatic undertones that appear, then there is it is back to the comedy. Alan Berger continues his reign as the comic genius that he is, make that comic mastermind. it makes my top ten list in fact, it tops out A Walk in the Park. Berger's film reminds me the films of Mike Binder. on a side note, i was walking out of the Driskol Hotel in Austin and i saw Alan Berger coming into the lobby. anyway, we got to talking and he introduced me the the producer Vincent Robert. i had the pleasure of hanging around around Alan Berger, Vincent Robert, Ernie Hudson, and Finn Carter for about 6 1/2 hours. Alan is just as funny as his characters in his films. the rest of the gang are funny and nice. Hopefully a deal will be made to get this film out there. it is crucial that it be seen, in an industry that is stuck on remakes, i'm glad that a great & original film has been made and it's name is Halfway Decent.
this is the most beautiful film i have ever seen. it's the best film ever. everything about this film is perfect. from the acting, the lighting, the camera work, the music, the script, the clothing, the setting, the editing, the value of the production. everything is worthy of an academy award. the film won bets picture and best actor at the '02 venice film festival. it's a shame that this film didn't make that big of an impact in the USA. it just goes to show you that most of the USA audience wont give films like this a chance. i saw it when it debuted in dallas, in july of '03. my brother and i were the only ones in the theater, on a Friday night even. i love this film. i bought the DVD the day it came out, i watched it at least once a week.
this movie is funny as hell. i saw is on june 18th, 2004 on the movie channel 2. i watched it cause rachel hunter starred in it, but the more the movie played, the more it grew on me. very funny dialogue, very original story & script, very good casting. i laughed out loud for a good 30 mins. i would like to meet alan berger and congratulate him on this master piece of comic genius. i hope the film will be released on DVD. it takes a step further than other romantic comedies such as some girl and pursuit of happiness. it shocks you, and thrills you with it's outrageous humor. i'm surprised that i haven't heard of this film before. i think a film this good would have got some great press. i rank this film among my favorites. probably in my top ten. and i just found out that this film on DVD thru netflix.
