Having just watched this film, I can't stop thinking about it. Everything about it is simply sublime. A professional and hard to fault job as usual from Fincher, one of the great Directors. Performances from the leading two were incredible ; I couldn't take my eyes off of Cate Blanchett, even when she did get older. Locations, colour palette and score are magnificently assembled. It is a shame that this is slipping down the Top 250, it should be right up there, certainly with Slumdog Millionaire. It may well be compared to Forrest Gump, but it appeals on so many levels, and in different ways that it will make it on it's own. A hauntingly beautiful picture that I am not going to be able to stop thinking about any time soon.
Just from reading the blurb on the back of this film's DVD cover, I knew i was going to love it. After spending three of my childhood years in a similar place in South west France, I felt connected to this film. It shows you that you can have everything you have ever wished for, but still not be content. The backdrop for this film is absolutely stunning. How anyone could inherit that house and not want to keep it, I do not know. I thought that the whole thing with Fanni and Max in the swimming pool as children was cheesy, but it all added to the romance of this story. Watch this if you love France, or if you love romance stories.
I must say that I thought the idea of ordinary people with strange powers all, that were all linked together in some way in New York was quite silly. Then I started to watch it. I love the way that everything is linked up, and the screen shots at some stages are amazing. The addicted painter is great as the unbeknowing "god" of the series. He could actually be described as the all-powerful cockroach.Hiro Nakamura is my favourite character, as he plays the underestimated nerd who has to warn New York of it's terrible fate. He has a certain quirkiness about him, and is instantly likable. The most sinister of the characters is the blonde single mum. She has a very confusing Jekkl & Hyde character, that is developed through the series. This is a must-see series that would grab the imaginations of most people so just go and see it.It is a bit more sinister though than what it would appear to be from the commercials.
