Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Disappointing!
Having just come home from the cinema I've got to say that I was very disappointed with the movie! For starters the first hour of the movie was so boring that I actually nodded off 3 times! Now I don't know if I missed some important parts of the story during the few minutes I fell asleep each time but parts of it just didn't make any sense to me such as why Batman decided just as he was about to kill Superman to not kill him after all but to partner up to rescue Superman's mother. Then what was the point of introducing Aquaman??...I mean they just plonked a 30 second scene of Aquaman out of the blue for no apparent reason at all! Also are we expected to believe that Wonder Woman has been living in Gotham for all these years but never showed her face or suited up in the past?? The way she was introduced to the story just made no sense whatsoever! Then there was the scene of Superman hiking in Alaska or wherever it was it...I mean why would he be hiking and all wrapped up in warm clothing when he could've flown there and doesn't need all that warm clothing because he doesn't feel the cold!
Apart from the above holes and the boring first hour, when the action did start it was as good as you would expect. Ben Affleck did a good job as the new Batman although he did look quite old in some scenes. As a huge fan of the original Wonder Woman I was concerned with the choice of Gal Gadot to play her but she actually did a good job and Henry Cavill is definitely the best choice for Superman since Christopher Reeve.
I've rated the movie as a 6, being just above average but overall I was very disappointed with the movie and would personally recommend that you save your money and wait until it's available to rent rather than pay the extortionate cinema costs!
Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015)
Better Than Expected
As a horror and supernatural fan I've watched all the films in the series but been disappointed by them all, finding all the best bits actually in the trailers! Needless to say, I was expecting to find exactly the same from this one but I was actually pleasantly surprised.
All in all it's not actually a bad movie at all....better than the others but still by no means fantastic! I enjoyed the story-line in this one which is covered by other reviewers so I won't bother going over it again. What I did find frustrating was the decisions made by Leila's parents Ryan and Emily; I mean they know their daughter is being stalked by something, have video evidence of something dark entering her room day and night yet they continue to leave her on her own and let her sleep in her room while they walk around the house looking for spirit or just go to bed and let the camera film their daughter at night....Surely any normal parent at this point wouldn't let their child out of their sight?! Also at the first instance of getting evidence of something in their house or child's bedroom, any normal parent would get the hell out of there! Instead they decide to just let things develop before getting a Priest in lol.
Other people have been complaining about the demon being called "Toby". If you really think about it this demon has to befriend two specific children while being evoked by these witches Toby is actually the Devil which is explained when the girl with the big boobs goes back to collect medication and clothes for Ryan and Emily in the hotel when she's reading through all the research and finds a picture of the demon. So for the Devil himself to befriend these children I would imagine he's chosen "Toby" as a 'friendly' name rather than introducing himself as the Devil. ***This isn't actually stated anywhere in the film, it's just my guess!!***
I must point out that I watched the movie at home, not at the cinema so I didn't have to worry about the cliché 3D parts some of the cinema goers have mentioned. If I had watched this at the cinema there would have been a few jumps what with the darkness and thumping sound but at home I thought it was an enjoyable movie and my personal favourite from the series.
Sure, it's not going to win any Oscars and there's nothing groundbreaking here either but it's not terrible either. Enjoy!
The After (2014)
Totally hooked!
Absolutely loved The After! Gigi Generau is a French actress in America and after going to her latest audition she and a group of other random people get stuck in a lift. They eventually manage to escape the lift only to find they are locked in a parking lot with all doors and gates locked. With the help of an escaped murderer Gigi manages to slide under the parking lot gate to find the city has ground to a halt with electricity and all other utilities no longer working and thousands of other people in the streets. With nobody knowing what has happened Gigi gets back to her hotel room and fills her suitcases with food and drink and returns to the parking lot. As she arrives back the escaped prisoner also comes back with a fire engine and bolt cutters to free the rest of the group.
One of the group is a rich old lady so the group make their way back to her house. While at the house the group realise they all share the same birthday! Chaos ensues when a group of criminals come to the house intent on stealing the old lady's money and the escaped prisoner shoots one of these criminals and they all run for their lives. When they reach the forest everything changes when the escaped prisoner shoots a creature.
I don't want to give much more away and ruin things for those who haven't watched it but The After is a cross between X Files and Lost with a fantastic story which you'll find yourself gagging to know more! I was on the edge of my seat all the way through and really hope this gets picked up for a full season. I didn't see the twist coming at the end at all, I was thinking it was more apocalyptic so the twist at the end was a complete surprise.
I'd pay to see this so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a full season!!
Wentworth (2013)
Brilliant prequel!
A brilliant prequel to the fantastic series Prisoner Cell Block H. The focus of this series is basically how the young, innocent and abused Bea Smith becomes the infamous 'Top Dog' and Prison Officer "Vera 'Vinegar Tits' Bennett becomes the nasty biatch we all know and love from the original series. While the main focus is on telling the story of Bea Smith and Vera Bennett, each episode tells a different story about how the additional prisoners became imprisoned.
If you loved Prisoner Cell Block H then you really will love this! Not only is it interesting to see how Bea and Vera become the infamous characters we love, the acting and stories is just fantastic. While this is a prequel it also stands proud in it's own right as a fantastic and powerful Australian drama. I definitely can't wait for season 2 to come to the UK!!
To the reviewer complaining that the characters are a "complete contradiction to their original"...I don't think you understand that this is NOT A REMAKE of the original but a PREQUEL TO THE ORIGINAL! The characters are completely different because they are possibly 20 years younger than they are in the original!
If you loved Prisoner Cell Block H and you're interested in how and why the characters you loved became those people then this is ESSENTIAL viewing!
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 (2012)
Best of The Series!
Firstly i must stress that i am NOT a fan of the series. I found the first movie as dull as dish water and didn't start watching it until the third one, despite my hubby doing his best to make me go to the cinema with him lol. I found the third one 'enjoyable', the fourth pretty good and this one AMAZING!
The story starts off right at the end of the last (which makes a nice change compared to others). Bella has just come back to life and is stood in front of a mirror looking at her 'new self'. She explores her new found strength and speed for a little before wanting to meet her daughter. Here is why i gave the movie a 9 instead a 10 because the baby is so obviously cgi and reminded me of the baby ape in the latest Planet of the Apes. I understand why they had to use a cgi baby over a real one, because of how she communicates with others which they probably wouldn't have got a real baby to do but i personally feel it let the movie down.
As Renesmee grows Bella takes her out to play in the snow where Edward's cousin see's Renesmee jump 10ft in the air to catch a snowflake and assumes she is an 'imortal', a child that has been turned into a vampire which is apparently the most evil of evil and then tells the Volturi who decides to kill Renesmee and the entire Cullen family. And so the action starts.
I won't give away what happens but there is a massive shock in store for you all when the battle ensues. I will just say, don't believe everything you see! At this point everyone within my screening gasped in shock and actually applauded which was kind of funny lol.
As usual, with the exception of baby Renesmee the SFX was impeccable and the love which is clearly very real between Bella and Edward and something we all dream of happening to us.
I personally thought that not only is this film the best of the series but also the best movie i've seen this year...and i go to the cinema 2 or 3 times a month! You don't need to be a fan to enjoy this but if you are a fan then i have no doubt you'll love it. For those posting negative reviews i would say that they take things far too seriously. You should NEVER go to see a movie with expectations but instead if you go with the intent of just 'going to see a movie' then you'll enjoy it much more!
The Pact (2012)
A Slow Start That's Worth The Wait!
I love most supernatural movies so I was hooked after seeing the trailer, expecting another haunting/possession type movie but The Pact really isn't the movie the trailer portrays but that's actually a good thing!
The movie starts with a woman in her childhood home and we quickly learn she's there because her mother has recently died. She calls her sister and they argue because she hasn't come back to help sort things out. We quickly learn that the two sisters had a terrible childhood at the hands of a sadistic mother which is sadly never really explained in any detail. After speaking to her sister she video calls home to say goodnight to her daughter who asks "Who's that behind you Mummy"? and the camera pans round and show's a seemingly empty hall cupboard. She walks to this cupboard and seemingly disappears. The other sister then arrives only to find her sister is now 'missing' with no explanation why. To cut a long story short, later that night an invisible force throws her about the kitchen and she manages to escape and run to the local police who obviously don't believe her story.
I won't say anymore about what happens other than while you might be expecting another typical haunted/possessed house story The Pact is not about that at all! Yes the house does appear to be haunted by her sadistic mother it's actually because said mother is trying to protect her daughter from something else...but what exactly??
The Pact is a bit of a slow starter but please stick with it because it actually turns out to be a damn good movie and totally not what you expect with an interesting twist!
8/10 from me.
Apollo 18 (2011)
A Very Scary Hour!!
Personally i thought this was one of the scariest movies i've seen in a while and for me to be unnerved by a movie is very rare! The people complaining that this 'is not a movie' clearly didn't understand that the film is made in the same tone as other movies such as Blair Witch etc in that it's not a movie at all but rather a filming of apparent previously 'lost' and 'real' footage filmed by the astronauts on the last mission to the moon by the Americans.
I won't give too much away but the idea of what this E.T. actually is was fantastic and something completely new and that fact that this alien life form has never been explored before is what makes it so great and makes the idea completely believable! There are plenty of genuine jumps and scares here too! My only complaint is that it's only just over an hour long which considering the cost of a cinema ticket these days is a bit a cheek!
Go and see this movie knowing that you will be seeing nothing but apparently footage made by the astronauts on the Apollo 18 mission and i promise you'll enjoy it if you enjoy being scared, but if you go in thinking you're going to see a Hollywood blockbuster horror / sci-fi movie then you'll be very disappointed!!
Glee: The 3D Concert Movie (2011)
Bad enough to even put off we Gleeks!
Being huge gleeks my partner and i couldn't wait to see this but wish we hadn't bothered. The 'movie', a term i use very lightly consists of some of our favourite characters singing and dancing a bit on stage and a good third of the 'movie' is spent listening to other fans comment about how Glee has changed their lives. There are no set changes, no real costume changes as such which combined with the filming of the other gleeks commenting about how the series changed their lives, THAT REALLY IS IT!!
And for one last kick in the teeth there were no signs of Mr Schooster either!
All in all a pretty boring 1hr 45mins of our lives we'll never get back and frankly if we weren't as big fans we are, this pathetic excuse for a 'movie / concert' would be enough to put you off the series!!
A BIG let down and very disappointing!!!
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
The 'Must See' Movie of 2011!
As a fan of the original films although not really keen on the Mark Whalburg adaption, i went in with scepticism based on how believable the movie could be when only CGI apes were used instead of the incredible makeup used in the originals. Well my scepticism was unfounded and i was blown away!
This is actually a prequel to the original covering the story about how the apes came to be the 'human' intelligent creatures they are. I have to say that i was gripped from the moment it started and the movie is a roller coaster of emotions. When Caesar first speaks the word "NO" the entire theatre (which was packed solid) gasped with unexpected shock and then when (not giving too much away), he speaks his last words at the end i think the entire theatre cried!
The acting is amazing considering the emotion the actors had to portray for something they couldn't actually see (they possibly had to act with a doll or something before the CGI was put in), the story itself and not to mention the incredible CGI array of different chimpanzee's, gorilla's etc which looked very real!
My partner and i make use of Orange Wednesday's 2-4-1 ticket deal every week so we see a lot of movies but for me, my partner and the friends we went with were all in agreement that this is THE movie of the year and i don't think i've ever rated a movie 10 before!
I implore you - If you are going to see any movie over the next month PLEASE go and see this. I promise you won't be disappointed!!
The Rite (2011)
Horror at its Best!!!
My partner i saw The Rite last night and absolutely loved it! If i could sum it up in one sentence than imagine if The Exorcist was never made and this was released at that time instead then there would be the same terror hysteria produced and this would too have been banned! I won't go in to the story as you'll already know that but i will say that The Rite is just as terrifying as The Exorcist. Anthony Hopkins is truly amazing and never ceases to amaze me with his acting abilities. Colin O'Donoghue is also fantastic and seriously hot too! If you are a fan of the paranormal, love a good horror and enjoy films that touch the truth behind possession then i promise you'll love this!!!
Skyline (2010)
A lot of fun!!!
I really don't understand what people are complaining about! Scifi movies are meant to offer Oscar winning performances but instead are meant to offer the viewer a fun couple of hours of escapism which Skyline delivers! I won't go into the story as others have already done that but what i will say is that firstly the concept itself is brilliant...An alien race who uses a bright light to do its nastiness. This is brilliant because no matter what species you are, human, animal and very probably other alien races - you will always want to look at a bright light! The SFX here are truly fantastic and keep you on the edge of your seat all the way through! The ending is also great because i was wondering what the point was of giving Jarrod the powers they did yet do nothing with it but then they showed exactly what they had planned in the end.
Both my partner and myself can't wait for the second one to see Jarrod take them down in his new 'guise'! Go to see the movie with an open mind and with the attitude of just wanting to see a fun SFX ridden alien movie and i guarantee you wont be disappointed. If on the other hand you go in expecting to see an Oscar winning story with Oscar winning performances then you WILL be disappointed! Its a lot of fun and im sure thats all its intended to be!!!
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010)
The best so far!
Firstly i have to stress that i have never read any of the books so my review is based purely on its credits as an enjoyable movie and its comparison to the previous two.
To be honest when my partner asked if we could go and see this at the cinema i gritted my teeth as i was dreading it. I never saw either of the last two at the cinema, just on DVD while i thought the first one was just about watchable, i thought the second one was one of the worst and most boring movies i had ever watched. So like i said, i was dreading going to see this! Thankfully i was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed this one! For the first time with these films i didn't feel the time go by as it seemed to go very quickly. Its a lot of fun with some fantastic special effects, some great action and a fun love triangle.
If you stop harping on about how close to the book it is and go to see it with the attitude of going to see another action movie about vampires and werewolves then i promise you you'll enjoy it!
Haunting of Winchester House (2009)
Truly awful. Please don't waste your time
I wont bother going into too much detail regarding the story as thats already been covered but if you try to imagine a really cheap bad horror from the 70's then you'll have it.
Winchester House itself is a relatively unknown haunted house but in the same vain as the Ammmityville house. I don't know whether the movie is supposed to be based around the true events that happened there or not but its respected enough that Most Haunted have actually done an investigation there.
The acting here is beyond laughable. For instance at one point one of the 'spirits' drag the daughter into a closet right in front of her mother while the mother stands there watching and only shows any shock at whats happening when the daughter is actually in the closet and the door slams. Was she not horrified by some ghost actually grabbing her daughter and dragging her from behind for 20 feet? Then you have the supposed 'psychic' who shows no knowledge whatsoever about the spirit world! The SFX look like they were done on your home PC using MS Paint or something lol. The direction and score are all horrible and the script so bad that its almost funny.
I had high hopes for this, expecting a new Ammityville or something and all i got was a couple of non intended laughs. If you are wanting a good horror with a creepy backdrop, a couple of jumps and something scary then go and watch the Teletubbies because thats a damn site scarier and much better acted lol.
Mum & Dad (2008)
A truly sick and disturbing masterpiece!
When i fist heard about this movie I was under the impression that Mum and Dad was based on the true life story of Fred and Rosemary West but seeing as no-one else appears to have mentioned that in their reviews i must be wrong, although I'm not sure what would have given me that impression?
On to the movie then...The story has been pretty much covered by all the other reviews so there's not much point in me going over that again. What i will say though is that based on the West's or not, this movie is one of the sickest and most disturbing i have ever seen!
I've always been a horror fan from a child and my stomach for gore has changed considerably over the years and i try to avoid it unless it is an essential part of the story telling. In the case of Mum and Dad and considering my previous belief in the story's history, the graphic and sickening gore aspects were more than essential.
Gore aside, why i found this movie so disturbing was how the story was told, not how much gore was shown. Im also not a fan of British movies whatsoever although i am British as i generally find them so boring and you only need to watch Crank 2 to see what i mean. So we know that there was a very small budget for the film but you would certainly never have known that because the story is so well told that you don't even think about it's SFX and the story was so well told that it honestly disturbed me to the point of having nightmares for two nights after watching it!
I am a firm believer in no matter how much has been spent on a movie, if it's story in any way, shape or form effects you in any way then it really is a good movie because the story should move you, not it's SFX. Mum and Dad is a true masterpiece in my mind because it effected me and did so in such a profound way, something no other movie ever has done.
If like me you enjoy a good story and enjoy being moved by that story then Mum and Dad is a must see although you'll definitely only want to see it the once because i know that i couldn't sit through it again!
10/10
The Grudge 3 (2009)
Better than i expected
The Grudge 3 follows the same story albeit a little different. We start with a Japanese couple and then go to the USA to find a young boy in a mental institution terrified of being along. At this point we don't know anything about anyone so it's a little confusing at first. The young boy gets locked in his 'room' and then gets killed by the dead girl.
We then switch to an apartment building and are told that a family died in one of the apartments and no one wants to go in there. Then the Japanese woman from the first screen appears wanting to rent an apartment so she can gain access to the apartment where the family was killed.
I'll leave the story there because i don't want to ruin it for everyone but needless to say all mayhem breaks lose and everyone slowly gets killed off.
Overall this is better than the second movie but still very boring. If you're a fan of the series then you might enjoy this and if you're not, and you've got nothing else to do then you might put this on to pass some time.
Quarantine (2008)
The scariest movie i've seen in a very long time!
Im a big horror fan but the last time a movie actually scared or disturbed me was The Strangers. Since then times have changed and instead of a compelling story and suspense, we're given bucket loads of gore and told that that is what makes a good horror.
Like The Strangers, Quarantine is full of suspense with a fantastic score and very little gore. A young reporter is shadowing the fire department when their first call takes them to an apartment building where there have been reports of one the residents screaming. On arrival to the building this resident attacks one of the policeman, taking a bite out of him. Suddenly the CDC secure the building with no explanation as to why and so the mayhem begins.
Im not a Zombie fan which is why i think i enjoyed this movie as much as i did because it's nothing like the usual Zombie stories with brain-dead people running around trying to eat people's brains. Instead Quarantine presents us with a very scary movie about disease and how this disease effects people.
I saw this on DVD in the middle of the day and found it quite scary. I wish though that i had gone to the cinema to see it when it was showing because if i had, i can without any shadow of doubt say that i would have been terrified! If you plan on seeing this movie then start it as i did, without any preconception or expectations. Turn out all the lights, turn up the volume and if you do then i promise you that you will be in for one of the scariest movie experiences you've had in a very long time.
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009)
Much better than expected!
We've just come back from seeing Underworld 3 at the cinema.
As a big fan of the previous two movies i was really excited to see that a new one had been released although i've still only seen one TV ad for it. Before hand i popped on to IMDb to see what the plot was and i was a bit worried to see that not only was it a prequel to the previous two but also that neither Kate Beckinsale or Scott Speedman wern't in it.
I was pleasantly surprised as it is actually a good movie.
I won't go in to too much detail as i don't want to spoil anyone's surprise but the story this time focuses around Lucian who was the first human/werewolf to be born and Viktor takes him under his wing although keeps him as a slave. Lucian falls in love with Viktor's daughter Sonja and want's to free himself and the other Lycans and be with Sonja. Needless to say things don't quite go as planned so the slaughtering begins.
The special effects as in the previous movies are fantastic as is all the action. The end takes you virtually to the first frame of the first movie where Kate Beckinsale is squatting on that high building about to jump to the ground.
If you enjoyed the first two movies then you'll definitely enjoy this one! If like me you're just a fan of anything Vampire and Werewolf then you'll love this too.
Arizona Sky (2008)
A nice but disappointing try
Jake and Kyle are two best friends living in a small town who have a gay experience as teenagers before Jake moves to NYC with his father. Jake grows up to be a gay and out young man while Kyle grows up to be a kinda cow boy who fixes cars.
Jake's best friend one day notices that he's unhappy and tells him to sort his life out so he decides to go back home to look up Kyle and see where his life has taken him. When he gets there he realises he's always loved Kyle and he's surprised to find out that Kyle feels the same way.
The movie itself really feels like it's trying to be Brokeback Mountain with it's settings and screen play but fails miserably. Eric Dean does a good job with the terrible script and the movie's only saving grace is that we get a little over an hour of looking at the lovely Eric Dean but everything else is just awful.
The love story itself is just terrible because of the writing, the score is just as bad and the movie every now and then starts to feel like another gay porn movie with its terrible script and screenplay.
If you are looking for a touching story about how two young lads fall in-love despite the adversity they face and live happy ever after then Don't watch this movie. If on the other hand you are looking for a movie that tries to portray a love story between two young lads but fails in every aspect then THIS is definitely the movie for you!
If you think Eric Dean is hot and want to see him in his underwear then this is about all the film offers, sadly.
Dead Set (2008)
Simply the best Zombie 'movie' i've ever seen!
Im neither a fan of Big Brother nor zombie movies so i really wasn't sure what to expect when i tuned in to episode one but I'm so glad i did! Personally i think zombie movies, like torture movies have been done to death and Big Brother has to be the most boring concept imaginable but Dead Set proved that both ideas can be done incredibly well.
The first episode was quite scary and each further episode didn't quite live up to that but it's so refreshing to see a UK series (with the exception of Spooks), look like it was made in Hollywood with a typical Hollywood budget and yet it's neither. The effects were fantastic and would put a lot of big budget horror movies to shame. The acting was believable too which is equally novel.
I for one can't wait for the DVD release and i think this will definitely have a cult following and will be a 'classic' in time.
Simply fantastic! Well done E4!!
Chronicles of an Exorcism (2008)
Just awful!
The movie starts with a message stating that this is actual footage by two unknown film makers which was found and has been edited for viewing. Thus suggesting that this is the real deal.
Sadly within a few minutes of watching it's painfully obvious that this is just another movie in the vain of REC, The Pooh Witch (my take on the Blair Witch) etc. It's obvious because the script is so awful that it makes no sense whatsoever, such as the 'yokle' Pastor who claims to have witnessed demons before and yet thinks the best place for Tina is in a hospital! Then you have a scene where Tina has escaped in to the corn field - She keeps appearing in front of people and then walking off and the priests, while seeing which direction she went go in the completely opposite direction. It's scenes like this that almost make it a comedy!
For anyone who actually believes this to be the real deal, when they get to the end credits you're presented with the cast list, the producers, directors, assistants and the message that the film is not factual and any resemblance to actual people is not intended. I found that the funniest part of the film because the viewer is led to believe this is lost footage but then you're told that it's not! If you are that desperate to waste an hour and a half of your time then go and watch the grass the grow! For God's sake, do not put yourself through the torture of watching this rubbish.
The Strangers (2008)
Fantastic old fashioned horror!
Its very rare that i comment on a movie although i visit IMDb almost daily but having just watched The Strangers and read some of the negative reviews posted I felt compelled to share my views.
The Strangers is old fashioned horror at its best. There's no ghosts, monsters, people being held up in a room an having to saw off their legs to get out or anyone going to Russia or wherever and being taken to a slaughter house, just good old fashioned suspense at its best.
What makes this movie great is that this kind of stuff actually happens instead of the over done and unbelievable examples given above. I realise that the movie is based on true events although we all know that doesn't necessarily mean a lot these days. There are some seriously f##ked up people in the USA who actually do this to people and more to often they end up getting away with it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing the USA, there are f##ked up people everywhere but it seems we only hear about it happening in the USA. Despite these things i plan on emigrating to San Fransico when i retire. And being from the UK i've always felt we could learn a lot from our cousins from 'accross the pond'.
As for the acting, i thought this was great too. Liv Tyler is amazing. What makes Liv amazing for me is that although i think she is great in pretty much everything i've seen her in she seems impossible to type cast. In this she is totally believable and i felt the terror she portrayed.
Scott Speedman is great also. Apart from being the sexiest guy God ever created i will always think of him being in Underworld but in this i nearly didn't recognise him until i saw his amazing mouth, if only that was on the menu when i go out to eat! All in all, if you want a good old fashioned horror which scares you because of the story telling and the acting rather than monsters and special effects then The Strangers is a definite must see!
Superhero Movie (2008)
Enough is enough!
I really don't what is these guys are doing wrong but they are doing it soooo wrong.
Scary Movie was hilarious, Scary Movie 2 was funny and Scary Movie 3 was OK but ever since film makers have been trying to make the same movie from the same formula but failing miserably. You only need to look at the last attempt, Meet The Spartans which was beyond terrible.
Superhero Movie is much the same as the others but other than the one scene where Granny cant stop farting there really wasn't anything remotely funny! Even the characters weren't funny or remotely appealing and yet oddly enough, the only cameo which had any thing going for it was by Pamela Anderson and that really says it all. Its one of those movies where the only funny parts are the parts shown in the trailer! So it starts off as a mickey take from Spiderman, giving us Dragonfly which starts off as possibly a good line to take but then we get X-Men, Iron Man and God knows what else.
What has happened to comedy recently? This isn't comedy, its not close to being Scary Movie and its only saving grace is that its not as bad as Meet The Spartans.
Please, please, please stop making this dribble.
The Invisible (2007)
Loved it!
I was a little unsure when i got this movie as there had been no advertising for it here in the UK so i really didn't know what to expect. Thats not a bad thing though because it meant i was totally open minded and im really pleased about that.
The movie itself is about a young lad who lives with his emotionless mother who dreams of eloping to London to start a writing career. His mother forbids it but he decides to go anyway and buys the ticket. His best friend at school is bullied by a nasty girl and her friends and he witnesses the girl hiding stolen goods in her locker. The police come and arrest the girl for burglary and instantly suspects the young lad. Her and her friends find the lad and give him a beating but because he believes Nick is going to London in a couple of hours he tells them that it was Nick who told the police.
The girl and her flunkies find Nick and give him a beating but the girl goes too far and thinks she's killed him and dumps him in a storm drain. The thing is that Nick isn't dead after all but is dying. He somehow leaves his body and haunts her and it appears that she can here him.
Thats enough about the story but i found it was acted very well with a good script and very enjoyable and emotional to watch.
The Brave One (2007)
Touching and Incredible. Jodie at her best
I've always loved Jodie Foster and how she always seems to be very choosy over the roles she takes, the ones she does are always thought provoking and sometimes hard to watch. The Brave One fits the bill as always! Jodie and her lover have everything they need - each other. They are true soul mates, more in-love than some of can ever hope to be. One evening they take their dog out for a walk and get attacked where her lover is brutally killed for fun and Jodie gets very badly beaten up. When watching the beating it reminded me very much of one of the first movies i saw her in in-which she was raped in a bar, i cant remember what that film was called now, i am getting old LOL but i found the rape scenes very hard to watch just as i did these.
She awakes three weeks later to find that her lovers funeral has passed and she never even got to say goodbye. Heartbroken and emotionally wrecked she becomes a different person, a person scared of everything around her but she finds the strength to right some wrongs and starts her search for fulfilment of the whole thats been left in her life.
I wont go into anymore of the story as you can read that from the other posts but i will say that i found the movie Powerful, Emotional, Hard Hitting, Controversial and overall a fantastic experience.
Boogeyman 2 (2007)
Really good horror movie!
Its few and far between these days that a horror movie comes along that is actually quite suspenseful and enjoyable and thankfully Boogeyman 2 fits the bill.
I should start by saying that this movie has no connection whatsoever to the first Boogeyman but thats actually a good thing because the first one was pretty poor.
We start out with a Brother and Sister witnessing the murder of their parents and then jump 10 years forward to where the Brother appears to be moving on with his life but the Sister still very traumatised and unable to move on. The Brother has to go away for a job interview and the Sister is terrified of being on her own so she stays at a mental hospital which deals with peoples fears. This is where i thought it was all going to go wrong with the typical situation of people being locked in the hospital ready to be picked off one by one. They still do get picked off one by one but its done really well with some great gore effects and the customary boob job.
Where this movie jumps the que is the twists at the end and in the last half hour of the movie which i totally didn't see coming.
All in all Boogeyman 2 is a great horror film ala Freddy/Jason with some great twists which will keep most horror fanatics happy and a guaranteed Boogeyman 3.
