Mama's Boy (2007)
Tedious!
Yet another "son who won't grow up" flick, and just the other recent like entries. Heder in another bad wig, channeling Napoleon for, what, the third time? Anna Faris is forgettable, as always; Jeff Daniels phoned this one in from another state, at least; and Diane Keaton...how does one become typecast this late in a career? Do not bother. Nothing is said here that hasn't been covered many times over. I will say this; it's about a hundred times better than "Failure To Launch". There are very few amusing bits in the movie, unless you think Eli Wallach cursing is funny. Ha, Ha! He's old and he dropped the f-bomb! Tee, hee, hee. Pitiful!
You Don't Mess with the Zohan (2008)
Where is the "Zero" rating?
I'll keep it plain and simple, the movie is terrible on every conceivable level. The writing is atrocious. The acting is appalling. The direction is misguided. The cinematography is pretty good. Oh, I guess I was wrong about failure on every level. I stand corrected. I love raunchy comedy (Kevin Smith movies are some of my favorites!); I love stupid, cornball, physical comedy (Can't beat the Stooges!); & I love satire (The Pythons and Mel Brooks are great!). I hate this piece of garbage film! It has no redeeming features. No laughs to speak of, no wonderful performances to remember, and no point worth making. All that being said, there's probably a sequel already on the way! Save your money and your time; Don't Mess With This Mess.
Raising Genius (2004)
Wretched waste!
Unless you are a hardcore Justin Long fan, do not bother watching this overwrought, pretentious garbage. Ooooh! Look at me! I'm a "black" comedy! Hold on a second...shouldn't any type of comedy be at least somewhat amusing? Yes, the situations were comedic, but that doesn't cut it by itself. The characters' eccentricities cried out "Plot contrivance!" Everyone seemed extremely one-dimensional, which does not play well in a movie striving to make a point (beat a dead horse) about modern life/society. Poorly written and acted(Did somebody owe Ron Howard some money? How else do you explain the presence of Clint?). Justin Long must have some inside info on some Hollywood bigwigs to continue getting acting gigs; in this particular film, he outdoes himself with a horrible performance. Do not bother!
The Prodigy (2005)
Garbage!
While the story was somewhat interesting, the acting was so bad it was distracting. The only reason I gave it a 2 instead of a 1 is because the shootouts were outstandingly ridiculous! It was embarrassing to listen to the dialogue and I'm sure if any of the people reciting the lines were actual actors they would have been embarrassed as well. As it was, some of the "performers" seemed to be choking the lines out. As I stated above, the action sequences (shootouts) were better than average. There were people shooting at each other and missing, as opposed to the typical fare. As far as the plot, I could not generate any real interest in what the main character was experiencing because his acting was so terrible! It was like watching a high school play in which you don't know any of the kids. Don't waste your time.
