The Mini-series "Zhukov" is a tremendous piece of television art. Well done, well-acted and providing an in-depth explanation of several aspects of the Marshal's life.
First, we have a wonderfully detailed look at the Military life of Zhukov as the war ends and his elevation to the head of the military, of a post war Soviet Union. Secondly, we then examine the political machinations of a government afraid of the power that they and circumstances thrust upon the victorious Marshal. And thirdly and lastly. We have a perhaps OVERY close examination of the romantic and family life of the man.
The acting was superb, except that I am a bit disappointed in the fact that none of actors seems to be able to express the process of simple aging, they all look like children imitating elderly people. The character of Misha, Zhukov's brother/cousin, appears old from his first appearance and is believable while the others "age" from the over application of make up which is rather unconvincing.
All in all the flaws are minor except one - the subtitles in English are terrible translations and run by much too quickly, but otherwise there is no damage to the excellence of the finished product.
Personally. I could have done with a little less of the romance which gave the production a whiff of Soap Opera to it, but nothing is perfect!

First of all, this is neither a comedy nor a horror movie. The storyline is one of family distress between a very weak-kneed son and his overbearing and devious mother with his poor wife caught in between them.
The character of the mother is a very nasty and manipulative one. Someone totally narcissistic and self-serving who is willing to ruin her son's life for her own purposes.
Why this is categorized as a comedy mystifies me, but the fact that it is said to be a horror film is a staggering shock to me. There is not any supernatural, paranormal or science fiction aspect to the entire movie.
It is a long and grating repetition of this woman's antics designed to dominate her son and ruin his marriage.
The acting is so-so with the "star" playing the mother-in-law being totally overblown and flighty. The couple is played as utter lost individuals who lack any direction and seems in a constant state of helplessness!
It is an extremely annoying movie and made me furious when it ended with not a hint of horror or comedy in any part of it!
WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!!!

I know these Police Academy movies were dumb, but they were also funny, this one is NOT. The same hack gags have gone so stale that they illicit groans instead of laughs.
I loved seeing Christoper Lee in a very uncharacteristic role, his attempt at humor was well played, but the script left him flat. The other cast members varied in competence, but even the good ones had so little to work with that they all failed to amuse.
The gags were flat, a couple of times they had characters try and assume a Three Stooges theme (including noises), but came off as moronic. The black officer doing the sound effects was used to a small extent and added NOTHING to the humor.
Ron Perlman added name power to the film, but yet again his lines were so poorly written that his role became a VERY unfunny "joke".
The romantic interest subplot added a very cute couple to the mix, but added nothing to the story, in part because it was sooo downplayed.
I gave up on these movies many moons ago, but thought the Russian aspect had great comic potential to breathe new life into the series...I was WRONG!
