The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) (2011)
A Sick Man's Fantasy
I have seen the first film, I only watched it once. I was repulsed and horrified and it stuck with me for days. I didn't really know what to expect when I watched the first one. This one however, I had more insight into and the curiosity factor got the better of me finally after months of debating 'do i really want to watch this movie' and the sound of the mad doctor shouting 'feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed her' going around and around in my head. This film however is nothing like the first one. Very depressing mood set from the start with a truly horrific theme to the background of the lead and why he turned out to be the repulsive sick man he did. Very well played by him and the woman who played his mother however - most believable and brought the film to life. The rest of the cast were neither here nor there and you didn't really care for them, in fact some of the individuals almost deserved their fate. The shock factor... Okay I watched the cut version. However I have read the bits that were cut out and its obvious in the film where they have been cut from. They wouldn't have brought anything to the film only another instance of where you would feel the need to cover your eyes or barf. There are a few instances of this towards the end of the film. Some of the instances are actually bordering on the ridiculous - i.e the woman who gives birth in the car or the scene where the mad man is blowing raspberries at the centipede in order to get them to defecate. The latter had me in stitches laughing and the lead subsequently is laughing too. Way over the top for me. After all his efforts he decides to shoot nearly every member of his centipede anyway and his lead - well what she did to him really had me in stitches. By the time you get to this point i think you have really seen it all, but then you are left with the notion that this was all really a sick man's fantasy. For the record reckon I think the whole film is.. Didn't leave me with the feelings the first film did, I think it may have lost it's shock factor already being done once before. Human Centipede 3 on its way and I really dread to think ...Would I recommend this film? Who to exactly? Give it a go if you have watched things like Saw etc it might 'make you harder..'
The Shrine (2010)
Have A Look At The Shrine
or maybe not.. not if you want to end up like some of these poor dudes in this film. Yeah the film isn't going to win an Oscar but its not bad at all. Good pace, not the worse acting by any means and a good story, plot and decent ending too! Without saying too much about the story its about a bunch of people going on the look out for some missing person and finding more than they hoped to. Keeps you watching. Not high school slasher horror but more in a drag me to hell sort of horror with a slight monster twist maybe classed as supernatural but not in a paranormal/exorcist way as I am not into them type of movies really anyway. Catch it. If you liked Drag Me To Hell or The Ruins you will like this.
Red White & Blue (2010)
Very Blue
Slow burning leading up to the point of the film follows a girl named Erica who spends her time never forming lasting relationships but sleeping around and living an existence. She meets a guy called Nate who has a true bonding with her and its not the sexual kind and he spends his time trying to form a relationship with her and look after her. Unfortunately for her a previous conquest comes back to bite her in the ass with terrible consequences for all those concerned. Gritty, grizzly and depressing movie that takes it's time to build up the whole point to the film but about half way into the movie it all clicks into place and you figure out the way it will end. Hard to watch in places but compelling and you want to know the way it will end. Not bad acting at all and to say its a low budget film it was really good. It was by no way a horror in the slasher sense of the word but really had a point to it. Like i say its a good film but it's certainly not hearts and flowers.
Grace (2009)
Grizzly Grace
I had read a few of the reviews on here of this film before I decided to watch and being a small fan of Cheryl Ladd I thought I would give it a go. Cheryl Ladd shines in this film most definitely her best film I have seen her in to date or her best acted role anyways. Baby Grace in places is very cute and you cant help but feel sorry for Grace and her mum especially. So to review the film without giving too much away, it is slow paced but gives you a feeling of what's going on and why, time to bond with mummy and baby. Gory atmosphere to the film but not much in the ways of bloody gore but its grizzly and isn't pleasant in places to watch. Maybe a slightly cop out abrupt ending. Overall if you want a flick to pass the time and something that's going to sick in your mind afterwards then this is the one for you - just don't expect too much from it.
Titanic (1997)
My Heart Still Goes On - More So In 3D
I was looking through these reviews last week contemplating whether or not I should see this movie again upon its 100 year anniversary 3D release. I was looking to see if anyone had reviewed yet, more on the film's re release in its 3D glory - sadly they hadn't so I though if i want to know if its worth the price tag I will have to go. Considering myself to be interested in the titanic - not enough to call myself a Titanorack mind - I have learnt a lot about that ship, whether it be on the t.v or in books. Curiosity got the better of me and I decided to don on the 3D glasses required and watch the movie. James Cameron is the king of 3D. 3D to me being pretty much a gimmick which i think only works with made for 3D films on the big screen only. Avatar is the perfect example of this. Although i didn't care for the film much the 3D is sensational. Made for 3D movies such as Avatar and Piranha etc I have enjoyed and found them effective. You can see a lot of effort has gone into the 3D for Titanic. Some of the scenes are magnificent. The lifeboats rowing away being the best 3D scene for me in the film. Was that worth the price of the ticket? I am very undecided. I love this film and have seen it numerous times and I am not sure 3D added anything extra to the film because it wasn't made for 3D it didn't have the same effect for me. I think for me it was a chance again to see the film of the big screen which I enjoyed again very much. One thing I did think about on seeing it in 3D yesterday was why on earth was Billy Zane in this film? He is more hammy than William Shatner in Star Trek and not in a good way. But where this film is concerned my heart will always go on ..so if you want to know if its worth going to see in 3D I would say if you are a massive fan or never seen it before yes, otherwise not..
A Night to Remember (1958)
Still A Tragedy 100 Years On
I have watched just about everything on this ship this week being the 100 year anniversary of the sinking. My heart always goes out to those who died, how it must have felt knowing you were going to perish, knowing you would never see your loved ones again. Makes me so sad to think what they went through. I feel even sadder that people insist on going to the wreck to look though it like ghouls. But anyway I digress.. I am not going to start by comparing this film to the fictional love story built on a back drop of a tragedy made by James Cameron in 1997. There is no point as they are two completely different films with 2 completely different agenda's and i feel those who have on here have missed the point to both these films. This film is meant to be the most true to history account of what happened on that night - obviously apart one or two technical things we weren't aware of when the film was made - i.e the ship splitting. Titanic 1997 was a fictional love story built around the backdrop of the sinking of Titanic and as such should be viewed as fiction. This film is beautiful. The performances are beautiful and believable able and you grow to love the characters and really root for them to make it - unfortunately some don't, its almost as disappointing on screen as it probably was in real life. More attention is paid to the crew and what when on behind the scenes rather than what the passengers got up in the first part of the film and I like that, although it does make you wonder why they insisted on sailing at such speed with the numerous ice reports and the freezing temperatures. A fitting tribute to watch on the 100th anniversary of the ship sinking and i recommend it to anyone after all it is a night to remember.
Abandoned (2010)
She Existed
Brittany Murphy existed in this. Her performance was great and the film isn't a bad film although it has been done too many times to stand out from the crowd. Its very cliché and been done so many times. From the off the film has you gripped and carries you along with enough intrigue to keep you watching. But what is distracting is the state of Brittany Murphy's health. Yes we all know this is her last film but you really need to watch this movie to know why. She is underweight, pale, sunken eyes and really bad lank hair. Why she wasn't in hospital instead of making this movie i will never know. Such a shame as she was really great in spite of her health problems in this film. Some things simply cannot be hidden by make up. RIP Brittany x
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
Oh lalala - Glorious
You have all seen the works of QT right? So you know what to expect. With that I mean the fore mentioned endless dialogue at tables.. Impressive camera work and quirky subtitles and credits. Even if you didn't know this film was his before picking it up from the shelves in Blockbuster, you would after the first scene. The film - Its a good film. Four words that's really all that's needed here. Why? Outstanding performances from Christoph Waltz and Brad Pitt to start. Christoph Waltz is captivating and believable. I am not sure what Eli Roth is doing here but i don't rate him anyway as either an actor or director/producer i.e the whole Hostel thing. But he seems to have his head firmly fixed in a part of QT's anatomy. He also seems to have a habit of hammy over acting - maybe its a testosterone thing for him. Its a long film and in true QT's style it takes its time but its by no means boring. Keep your eye out for Mike Myers - he is splendid if nothing else it keeps you going - after all you want to know if tonight is the night to end the war..
My Week with Marilyn (2011)
Some Like It Hot
Wow. Amazing. I was completely gripped by this movie. I love Marilyn Munroe always have, why she had no confidence in herself and all her troubles i will never know. Just to ooze appeal the way she did i would give anything. Show stopper. The original show stopper. Michelle Williams was great. Not spot on. No one could be spot on. But she was believable and wow what a week with Marilyn it certainly was for one guy. A week he will never forget. Neither will i now. Amazing. Can you tell how much i loved this movie? I really felt like I had a week with her too and I understood her troubled life and world.. Such a shame and waste of talent..
U.S. Marshals (1998)
Action Packed Predictability
This is the first time i have watched this movie and this movie has been out a long time. I loved The Fugitive and the whole Sam and Dr. Richard Kimble, cat and mouse. I was a little disappointed when i realised this was going to go down the same road but the plane crash was spectacular and kept me watching and wanting to see more. I am used to seeing Snipes as a villain so to see him as the running good guy didn't really cut it for me. Downey Junior didn't need to be on screen long before I figured it out he was the one that Sam needed to be after after all and he was actually the best character in this film. This disappointed me really though as if i could figure it out so quickly that he was the bad guy and believe me I am no miss Marple surely the great Deputy could have? But hey, all ends happily and Sam gets his man, unfortunately it does result in one of the regulars being a causality. Its worth an hour or two one Sunday afternoon when there is nothing else on but as for another film, thank goodness they realised Sam couldn't handle that.
Burlesque (2010)
How do i become burlesque?
Not good enough to be a 7 but not really as bad as a 6, i quite liked burlesque. Its a little lacking in the story and seems to loose steam towards the latter end of the film but i think all along you guess really what is going to happen when Christina walks through them club doors. Christina and Cher both really shine in this film and there is some really good looking guys and a little romance to boot. The singing and dancing is impeccable and seems almost like a modern day 'King Creole' come 'Chicago' although both of them films do have more to their plot than this. So if you have a spare couple of hours, if you love Cher and Christina and if you love singing and dancing this is the film for you.
Megan Is Missing (2011)
Something is missing *possible spoiler*
I am not sure what to write, but i wanted to review this title. There are lots of reviews on here, quite mixed really, but I think put them all together and get an average and you probably get a true reflection of this film. Is it informative? Yes. Is it realistic? I don't know. In that i am not meaning from the teens point of view, what they get up to and how they are. I do believe you have both ends of the teen spectrum in this film and chat rooms have always frightened me, you don't know who on earth really you are talking to unless you know them personally. It's the crime that got to me. It just didn't seem realistic to me. Not the gore and violence and disturbing scenes. I suppose anyone who is capable of these types of crimes is capable of the scale of the mentioned. It just felt like it was missing substance. No investigation. No reasons. Nothing. You literally go from your worse nightmare from a parents perceptive to an even worse nightmare with nothing much in between and nothing afterwards. There are one or two not nice bits towards the end, but it just ends. Its a sad film all in all just wish there was more to it.
Melancholia (2011)
Viewin this movie will not leave you with a feeling of Melancholia
Wow. That's really all i can say about this movie. Obviously IMDb require more for a title review. But I watched this movie late last night. I had tears in my eyes at the final scene and this morning it was one of the first things that came into my mind. Everything about it was beautiful. I watched this with my husband. I say watch, he didn't watch it at all really, rattled around on his iPad then expected me to explain the whole film to him and then proceeding to give it a 3 out of 10. Yeah, typical male, no blood, guts, gore or Bruce Willis dangling from a light fitting with a ripped, bloodied shirt hanging off his back. Apologies to the males who do like a film with a bit more to it than that but my husband doesn't seem to be too fussed with a film thats more dramatic and thought provoking. Which indeed this is. At first I wasn't too struck with the opening, felt long and drawn out and the music went on, but later on in the film when it was more explained what this was about it made sense. Huge sense. In fact it was at this point in the movie I felt that everything that had gone on previously all boiled down to how the characters were going to deal with this moment. I don't want to give anything away but all i will say is my whole heart was with Charlotte Gainsbourg's character, which just goes to show how well she played her part, her strength but vulnerability also at this moment in the movie. It just goes to show that sometimes a magic cave is just not enough..
Sanctum (2011)
B Movie To Pass The Time
I don't know if it is really meant to fall in the B movie category, the 3d and imax suggests its not but to me it was. It felt like a straight to DVD type film thats shown on Sky midday, midweek. Saying that the film isn't awful. I enjoyed it considerably, kept me gripped and interested. Yes it was long and drawn out, seemed to go on forever really and they managed to go from a considerable amount of people to just one is a short space of time really. Not massively gory and no way does it fall into the horror category, seems very much like The Descent without the scary monsters. In fact due to their own safety or lack of it, they don't need the monsters to pick them off one by one they manage that all by themselves. The acting at times is just so wooden i honestly think i could have done better. So in other words its entertaining just don't expect too much..
Alpha Dog (2006)
Wow! *possible spoiler*
First of all I have to say I love Justin Timberlake in films. He is such a better actor than singer. He is great in this. Loved him in Snake Moan and Social Network but he is great in this - almost the good guy, without giving too much away. Yeah the film starts off slow and by the time the deed that the whole film is based upon as stated in the summary happens, i almost lost interest and couldn't decide whether or not to continue with the film. But boy in that instance with that scene my interest was captivated and i was completely engrossed with the film. By the end of the film you will have warmed to two characters the most and when the unspeakable happens at the end it really pulls on your emotions and you feel absolutely gutted. I did. How well acted by these two characters one of which is the fore mentioned JT. It is one of them films that i really want to watch again. Well done to everyone involved in this, it certainly left me feeling like the film had touched me. I love that. I will say though that the language is dire. Don't get me wrong i am not in anyway prude - goodness i went to see The Inbetweeners movie - but i have never known how to get so many swear words into one sentence before!! :O)
In Her Skin (2009)
I am thinking of you
My title is directed at the victim's family. Thats the impact this film has had on me. The way this has been acted out left me feeling nothing but sympathy for this poor girl's family. Beautifully acted by everyone. The babysitter especially is faultless and believable indeed and i cant think for one minute this would have been an easy role to undertake. You can kind of suss out after being introduced to the sitter what is the likely outcome and why. Such as shame as you can kind of understand why the sitter feels the way she does and the help that she requires. Thought provoking with every second thats played out on screen and i was completely gripped. A good watch even if the reality of it all leaves you kind of fearful.
The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009)
This Film Has No Legs
Awful, dire, sick, disturbing, poorly acted are the main words i could use to describe this film. The only thing 'interesting' is waiting to see the human centipede and seeing how it ends. All the bits in between are neither here nor there. The girls acting is just shocking, so shocking they could easily star in a porno. The police at the end are just as bad. The scientist is the only one whose acting is believable, either that or he really is a nutty scientist. How on earth he manages to get the 'centipede' to last more than a day or two as he does in the film is beyond me as its completely medically impossible to keep people alive sewn together like that. Even i know that and am no medical student. There is nothing good about this film at all and if you want to see what the 'centipede' looks like and your going to watch this for the curiosity factor, just fast forward to that chapter, honest!
Piranha 3D (2010)
Swimming With Fish
I am a 30 something female. I took my partner to see this, well i wanted to see it and dragged him along and we saw it in 3d. Whats it about? Its about kids getting eaten by Pirahna fish. Thats it. Thats the plot. So if you go and see this expecting Miss Marple you will be disappointed. Is it good? Not really. Is it entertaining? Oh yes. Is it gruesome? Of course and thrown in for good measure is lots of nudity, full nudity from our very own 'i want to be taken seriously as an actress' - Kelly Brook. How anyone could take this film seriously i would never know as its done very tongue in cheek and is meant to be that way. Is the acting good? Yeah for the type of genre of this film i would say the acting was really good. Jerry Oconnell was fab, just fab, I loved Christopher Lloyd, his over acting makes him who is and the Richard Dreyfuss touch was good also. The only one to let us down with the acting I would say is our very own Kelly Brook again. But she is there for eye candy isn't she? Anyone going to watch a film about teens and Pirahna fish not expecting girls to be sunbathing topless or expecting graphically gruesome deaths must not have a clue about this type of film at all. It basically does what it says on the tin but with decent actors - for a change. I would recommend this film for 18 - 30 somethings, especially the boys, although don't get too excited unfortunately most of the girls have surgically enhanced assets that look even more fake than the CGI fish! Sorry.
Antichrist (2009)
Graphic and Disturbing, but a compelling watch non the less
I watched this film last night. I am still thinking about it this morning and thought about it most of the night. I am not sure what stuck in my mind the most though. Whether it was the graphic scenes or whether it was the message the film was putting across or both. If you're anything like me you may get lost a little in the middle of the film too as i struggled to understand what some of the things the characters were doing and going through had to do with the event the whole story is based on. But then it came together in the end. Wonderfully acted by the two characters that carry the whole film. But believe me when i say from the outset it is graphic in portraying sexual relations between the couple, some may say borderline pornography and the violent scenes are sure to make you wince, especially you men! Its a very disturbing film, dark and depressing throughout but the main theme of the film is coping with grief, or at least it starts out that way so if you only like things that are light heart and upbeat, this definitely is not for you. I know a lot on here think this film is simply the best and it doesn't get better, but because i feel it lost the theme somewhere in the middle and its only right at the very end in the final scenes it goes back to what the whole story was about initially i gave it a 6.
The Hole (2001)
.. everything else is just wallpaper
So rarely do we see a great British horror, thriller film. This one is just the best I have ever seen and I have watched a few, most recently 'Tormented'. The Hole is way better than that and then some. Thora Birch is just outstanding. She needed to be as she is the main character and she carries the film and she is just fantastic. We also see young Keira Knightly from the 'Pirates' films and a young Laurence Fox from 'Lewis'. They are all just brilliant. The film has a great atmosphere and you don't really pick up on the clues as to what has gone on until the 'culprit' has been revealed. Will say no more as i don't want to spoil the film. Just watch it. It will leave you with a 'oh my god' feeling when the end credits roll.
Gamer (2009)
The Best Bit? The Soundtrack
I didn't understand this film one little bit. Plenty of blowing up and killings, running around and shootings. I love Gerrad Butler, he can be a great actor and done some great films too, very easy on the eye, but he hardly says 2 words in this film and runs around shooting folk in some computer generated game. If i was to tell someone what this film was about, i would say its on the lines of Running man vs Surrogate (the new one with Willis where people live their lives view computer generated androids) some sort of computer generated game for survival. Thats it i don't get anything else from it am afraid. But it was sort of watchable. The best bit? Marilyn Manson singing 'sweet Dreams' for the sound track of course!
The Lakes (1997)
The Beautiful Lakes
More than 10 years on since it was first made i still love to watch this. I own it on DVD and have also seen the re runs on BBC3. I could watch it over and over again. I love the atmosphere of the series, the beautiful setting and the acting has to be the best I have seen on TV in a mini series ever. Because of how series 2 is set and some of the bad events in it, it almost makes Cumbria seem a scary setting and it gives it a lovely dark atmosphere. Agreed series 2 can seem more soap than story in places but not overly. I love the hotel scene where its set, I have even visited the hotel and had a ride on the Ullswater, but not actually had chance to see room 34! Chef has to be one of the best characters ever in a series and played wonderfully! Yes it is far fetched in places, but its wonderfully entertaining and addictive, you watch one episode and you have to see them all!!
The Crazies (2010)
28 Days Later You Maybe Crazie About This
If you like 28 Days/Weeks later, chances are you going to like this. Very similar type of film, people becoming ill, going mad, killing other people, mass culling and incubation operation etc.. nothing new here really. The acting from Olyphant and Mitchell was great - but that was about it for great acting. If you like George A Romeo's style and ending to films you will love this. Anderson was too much over the top in a Eli Roth sort of manner to fit in with the better acting of Olyphant really. The atmosphere of the film was great though, you feel worried, intrigued and have a sense of urgency needed. Give it a go, its better than an average slasher flick thats for sure!
Obsessed (2009)
Obsessed With The Bad Acting
I have just watched this film on Sky. It kept showing and I kept reading the synopsis and thinking that looks like it could be good but it was Beyonce Knowles that put me off watching it. Well one afternoon there it was - on and i thought well i will give this a go. Oh god, i was right about Beyonce Knowles. Why does anyone think she can act or give her 'serious' roles? Her acting was bad. Worse than bad. She reminded me of a stand up comic making fun of over acting Hollywood actors, with exaggerated acting and delivery of lines. A bit like Eli Roth if you have ever seen him in any of his movies. Why do these actors always think they are John Wayne or something and try to win awards for being the most hammiest actor? They make William Shatner look like Clark Gable or something. Anyway back to the movie. Beyonce Knowles was dire. The leading male wasn't too bad, i think he may have stepped his acting down to try and match Beyonce and the stalker female, who i have only known as Clear Rivers in Final Destination, can do better than she did too but she wasn't too bad actually in parts, in fact she probably was the best of a bad bunch. The story itself was good as were the scenes and situations portrayed, it kept you watching as the acting was a sure certain turn off in places. If the acting had been top notch the film would have been so much better, but as the acting was, it was like a low budget straight to DVD film that you would watch on some random Sky channel at 2.30pm on a Tuesday afternoon. Oh and the fight at the end between the girls you will love it, its classic.. 'come here bitch' and 'i thought i told you to stay away from my house' just cracking lines when and the way they are delivered, really they are! A tip - if you are expecting something like Fatal Attraction, do not even go there, why this film gets mentioned in the same breath as such a wonderful classic I will never know. Have fun!
Tormented (2009)
I liked this!
I struggled to get into this film at first. Being a British horror type film i was also wondering if we were going to get something like 'The Hole'. But it wasn't like 'The Hole' it was more like a usual picking off teens one by one film but with a bit more of an interesting twist to it and I loved the ending. There are some very realistic bullying scenes which are not a pleasure to watch, but you do understand why the 'fat kid' wants his revenge and you have absolutely no sympathy with the bullies. Some of the death scenes are great if not grisly too! The bullies i think are believable. I can see there being many kids so vain and full of themselves to behave like they do in this film. Its not a typical slasher/stalking thing as there is no atmosphere like that due to the lighthearted nature of the film. I thought it was great. It was different and very entertaining. Certainly no where near the worse film I have ever seen, I think i would still give that title to Cabin Fever 2!
