One more thriller made by John Gilling, during the early fifties with, once more, an American actor as the lead. Here, Scott Brady. The story is so predictable, that I was very bored all long the film. I think it could have been far shorter for me. The ending is so foreseeable, but the directing and settings save the whole; I mean if you follow John Gilling's career, just watch it. I warn you though, there were tons of films of this kind, with a good hero vs villains. I also mean that John Gilling has made far better films, even in this early part of career. I don't even speak later with THE CHALLENGE, PICK UP ALLEY, MAN INSIDE and I don't even speak of his famous horror and adventure films.
As usual, in the beginning of this DEPARTMENT S episode, there is a strange scene which no one can explain, understand, and that needs explanation. Before the opening credits. The DEPARTMENT S recipe. The perfect opening scene for the series, the typical. Good mystery, but that's not the first time this same scheme occurs; remember the previous episode that i commented, the man who jumped out of a plane with a parachute, and who many people believed he was dead...I am afraid to find it again later in the show.... I am happy to have Kieron Moore here, one of my favorite British actors, who looked like an American. I did not know he worked also for the Tv industry.
I am very satisfied with this BOMBA film, as I was with the previous one which I saw today. Not boring, despite the lame directing and stock footage that is a bit too much galore for my taste. But that's the rule in this kind of films, including the first TARZAN films and I don't even speak of JUNGLE JIM stuff too. So, yes, this little celluloid jungle adventure flick is fun, agreeable, but you need to be prepared to watch it. I mean don't be too hard in terms of judgment. It was destined to young audiences in saturday and sunday matinees. I even prefer this movie to most of JUNGLE JIM ones, starring Johnny Weissmuler. The fight between Bomba and the panther, in the end, is quite surprisingly good.
