Those of us who remember the ABC Afterschool Specials can see those traits in this film. CODA is a nice movie but it is by no means a great film and is certainly not worthy of a best picture Oscar.
Kate Macer is such a square peg in a round hole in this movie that I refer to her as Doink the clown, who was a wrestler. She falls on her ass about a half a dozen times in this movie, once while wrestling a a corrupt cop. She has no idea what it takes to catch the bad guys who are constantly winning the drug wars. Great photography, a compelling score and a standout performance by Benicio Del Toro make this one of the best films of the decade.
