I see that Kidmam and Moore are going through the same stage in life. The need to show their body's in a film and try to wrap a story line around it. At least the last Moore movie had some point that they were trying to be made... but this film was just unbelievable and filled with who gives a damn sick fantasies. I could not make it through the entire movie because it had no value... it was not entertaining and it was just plain sick. Whatever heavy message they were trying to send missed the mark and I was left with an opinion of kidman that is taking a nosedive. It's too bad because she has done good work.
The Series has lots of twists, turns and societal issues jammed into 6 hours... some might say too many. The initial premise of a potential kidnapping for ransom was sound and straightforward and I was enjoying it and I bought in. Then... after three episodes... you start to feel the actions of the main characters are weak and weird. And then you have Cumberbacth... who is the reason why most tuned in... his character is written in such a one-dimensional way that it's almost impossible to feel any sympathy for him. Instead of evoking empathy, he just comes off as a pathetic and irritating silly loser. So you have characters that aren't likable, their interactions aren't believable, and a story line that is tired, a bit stretched and absurd. There was an opportunity here to explore so many social issues but unfortunately when you have no empathy for any of the characters and a flat out silly ending.... all of that is lost... do you blame the director ... the writers... or both.
The first two seasons of White Lotus were absolutely brilliant. Every episode brought a wittiness that was sometimes shocking and refreshing at the same time considering the BS that is pumped out on the multitude of channels that exist these days. So of course I was very pleased that there would be in fact a season 3. Well... I have just finished episode 4 and not only has the plane not left the airport... but I really don't know where the destination is... and the writers of this season have not written well enough for me to even care. As with the previous seasons... the Cinematography is of the highest order... very artsy and a joy to see... but the story line and the characters suck in season 3.
