Don't want give away any spoilers but for a sequel to an irreverent and sarcastic comedy, this lacked that tone and was instead filled to the brim with reverence to all details, big and small, of that original. And that seemed misplaced to me - especially a very sentimental, cliché and corny ending. The kids were good and had some funny dialogue. The plot lacked stakes and clarity. As someone who loves the original, it had some cool moments that made me remember the original, but then often also didn't make a lot of sense in the logic of this story. All in all; entertaining and much better then the 2016 remake. But still nowhere close to the original in regards to comedy, tone and story. My 10 year old did however think it was the best film ever - so maybe i'm just old, grumpy and over-critical.
Just goes to show that quality has nothing to do with success. This was a huge hit in the cinema but both me and my girlfriend found it absolutely horrible.
It's not funny or romantic. Everyone is frantically doing their best to try to make it work and have it be fun but fail horribly. I wanted to throw something heavy at my TV screen.
And i work in a videostore and see about two films a day. Also, i have nothing against musicals, or ABBA. In fact i have their greatest hits cd and liked "hairspray" very much.
I just found it very poorly written, shot, staged and acted. It tried so hard to be fun(ny) but tried way too hard. I still can't understand it. To mess it up with THIS cast? How is that possible? After this debacle we watched Disney's "Enchanted". Now THAT was a good, funny and romantic movie that also has singing and dancing. That worked. This didn't! Say away from this piece of .... Far away!

How could this get a 6.0 rating? Are we as horror fans so used to horror films being so utterly bad these days, that when one comes along that has some, and i repeat 'only some', redeeming quality's, we get much too excited and give a rating that is just a wee bit too high? The director has a certain visual flair. No doubt about that. But in between some decent shots he forgot a good story, mood or scares. It had a very slow first act, lazy killing scene's, annoying and flat characters and a very stupid and very unbelievable twist. And what's with the portrayal of American teenagers in so many of these kinds of films? Do they always have to be this stupid, irritating and so godd#mn superficial. I don't remember teens being like this when i grew up here in Holland. All things considered, in can't give this film anything more that a 4 out of 10 rating.
