This might have been a really cute, feel-good movie just like the rest of the Hallmark brand. BUT, the characters or caricatures in this case are so badly drawn that they aren't even believable as humans. The story line could have done with a lot fewer pratfalls and devices to carry it along. The idea that the woman is leaving a fifteen year marriage to an extremely wealthy man with nothing is simply laughable. In the end, when the epiphany comes, it is impossible to believe that this simpering, vapid shopper is even capable of an original thought.
The writers do a great disservice to women everywhere when they portray us as such pathetic creatures, totally dependent on some man's identity.

I've been waiting to see this movie for awhile, it didn't disappoint.
The wind-swept, barren landscape, fog, drizzle all lend themselves to the tension that builds with the attacks by the troll.
Plenty of scenes of carnage off-set by moments of real comic relief.
I was intrigued by the beards. The actors must have had a lot of fun coming up with the various ways to deal with long hair and a beard in this kind of environment.
Thought they did a very good job of making the atmosphere, buildings(or lack there of) costumes and ships look authentic.
Very enjoyable, and a real peek at how close to nature we once were.

I loved this movie, although I was in a heap at the end. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling were terrific. I kept seeing a young Jimmy Stewart in Ryan Gosling-his manner, his speech. Rachel shows such great enthusiasm, it is contagious.
James Garner and Gena Rowlands are old favorites of mine who always turn in wonderful performances. I always make a point of seeing their movies.
The subject matter is timely and thought-provoking, the music and mood of the young people's story is quite well done. I recommend seeing this movie, if it isn't relevant for you today, it will be one day.
