I'm not a fan of this animated studio. While I think Shrek was good, it was really what happens when you give SNL cast members the freedom to be funny. The rest has been this strange cash grab that fills an empty spot that better studios, such as Pixar, leave in their release schedule. They amass enough "Star" power to lure someone in...I guess...
However, Wild Robot is a vast departure. This is the first Dreamworks film where I dare to say there is authentic heart involved. This was the very first of this studio where I left encouraged that intelligent and clever writers are finding a home and voice.
If they continue to make movies at this caliber, and maybe finalize on one ending instead of many in one, then we might have a heart-filled cash grab as we wait for the next Pixar film.
Truthfully, there's room in my heart for two studios, to make heart-filled stories, that I'm eager to watch 💜
Dreamworks, Thank you for stepping up your craft.

Wow. I stepped out of this movie with an interesting itch. I really enjoyed the characters. Everyone did a fantastic job acting. Keaton was back in old skin, and so was the rest of the cast. Watching this film affirmed why these actors have become household names, and Ortega has been added to that list.
We loved the film. It was clever, with only a few hiccups. There's an entire plot with a jilted lover that kind of got resolved too quickly, but commercially enough for me. I liked the symbolism behind it, but don't know how well it connected.
Why not give it a higher score? It really deserves higher praise than a "7" but I think it will stand because some religious people believe it's a completed spiritual number; while this movie is an exploration in finding a complete self (even if you have to go into the land of the dead to find it).
Thank you for giving us a return visit to our favorite characters.

All of the performances were solid. From Keaton to Kunis, it was a delight to see these character actors be given something with gravitas. The issue of a man who disconnects from his family for a career but learns how to reconnect because of life situations is a newer exploration in movies.
It feels as if, up to this point, media has wanted to make characters like Keaton into a villain, or a mustache twirling neglectful or abusive dad. Keaton played him with such grace and poise. I both felt bad for the situation he found himself in as well as honest how he got there.
Truthfully, becoming a parent is an unknown for all of us. We try to do what we believe is best but the ones that set themselves apart, always had a strong foundation of true love. Seeing how Kunis played that from a daughter's perspective was magnificent. The way she seamlessly held her father to repentance was admirable.
This film is clever, meaning it will be hard to find an audience. I pray it does because this is a delightful treat, a real hero's journey in the form of Father and Daughter relationships.
