It's been two days now since I watched the movie, but my dad and I still recall some its scenes and have a good laugh!
For someone who comes from a middle-class family and studied in a small school in south India, there were just so many relatable scenes! They give you this nostalgic joy!
Except occasional short-lived moments, the movie has a way of not taking itself seriously. I think it maintained that ideal balance to entertain, but also give you an emotional jab.
But the movie does have its shortfalls. It feels choppy at a lot of places. I understand that the movie isn't meant to follow a traditional movie's path, but I do feel like it strays a bit too much, making it feel like a patchwork of fun scenes. They are fun scenes for sure, but it would have been nice if they had an organic flow rather than being forced there.
Each character has distinct persona, and the actors did a great job at performing their role. But I feel like a lot of characters were added, and most didn't get their due. This made it hard for me to keep track.
But otherwise, the movie makes you laugh out loud numerous times. I particularly liked how the director ended the movie uniquely. I think the end did justice to the tagline 'Biopic of a Billion Boys'.

This movie isn't like your casual movies. It isn't meant to entertain. It is meant to show you certain realities.
The movie does have a slow pickup. But it has a way of teleporting you to another world. The photography, the shots, the screenplay, the setting and costumes... All have a way pulling you into a subject that you would've otherwise felt disengaged with.
I was watching this with my dad. For him, it was nostalgia. For me, it was immersion. The actors also did an excellent job! The boy's frustration and exhaustion feels like yours. His family's struggle feels like you are all being crushed in a cramped iron cage. Cruel, but inevitable. You feel this sheer visceral helplessness throughout the movie. I think that's what the director wanted. If it is, he was successful.
