The Day of the Jackal (1973)
A mystery till date. Edward Fox as the Jackal is one of the coolest assassin who carried an ascot in an even cooler way.
I love head exploding like watermelons in horror n action movies, specially via shotguns.
This movie has the most iconic watermelon exploding scene which is not present in the lousy Bruce Willis' version.
The beauty of this movie is that inspite of the viewers knowing how it will end, the movie kept viewers glued to the screen till the end credits.
Lots of twists n turns, terrific cat n mouse game between the killer n the detective.
Inspite of two n half hours long, there ain't a dull moment all thanks to the director, Fred Zinnemann whose High Noon is one of my fav of all time.
Edward Fox gave an awesome performance of that of a contract killer aka the Jackal. His character is cool, methodical, a true professional n a ruthless cold blooded killer who has no problem in killing an old lady or a charming young woman or innocent n harmless fellas.
The Jackal had a chance to disappear when the mission was compromised but decided to go on for the mission despite knowing that the odds were increasingly being stacked against him, a true professional.
We have Jean Martin as Volenski in this movie. In this movie ironically his character gets tortured by the French police for extraction of information.
His character aka The Colonel in the movie The Battle of Algiers tortures innocent civilians.
I first saw this in the early 90s on a vhs.
Then again in the early 2k on movie on demand.
Revisited it recently online inspite of owning a dvd.
Bajo cero (2021)
Fast paced n atmospheric thriller with two solid violent scenes.
I saw this few days back on Netflix n enjoyed it tremendously.
The story takes place on a single chilly, foggy, dark winter night n that too via an isolated route.
Assault on Precinct 13, Lin Shaye's Dead End, Emily Blunt's Wind Chill, The Last Stand, etc will come to mind while viewing this.
On a cold wintry night on a deserted road filled with thick fog (almost like a Hammer horror movie), an armoured van carrying prisoners is halted by a spiked strip kept by a killer who demands the release of a particular prisoner.
Many fellas may complain why no cell phones? They missed that the cops were not allowed to carry cell phones so that nobody gets tipped off about the transfer of prisoners.
Candyman (2021)
Almost all the horror n kill scenes are offscreen aided by a terrible ending.
I saw this few days back since I was on a marathon of the Candyman movies.
The one is a direct sequel to the 1992 film and the fourth film in the Candyman film series.
I was totally disappointed man.
The only good thing is Teyonah Parris, a true hot babe.
There was absolutely no atmosphere n a terrible story n an even more terrible ending.
The worst is that all the kills n horror scenes are almost offscreen with unnecessary blood oozing.
Wots the point in showing blood oozing but the kills are hidden.
Even more stupid idea was to include the teenagers' scene. So many fellas die but nothing shown, only blood n two *ucking bees.
They shud have jus remade the original with the same kinda atmosphere n surrealism with more body counts.
Dracula 3D (2012)
And the award for the best juggs in a recent horror movie goes to...
Miriam Giovanelli, a true peach.
Apart from her nudity n beautiful face ther is nothing redeeming about this cheap take on the Dracula story.
I find Asia Argento attractive n she too goes topless but her juggs ain't good. Haven't seen her Scarlet Diva where she is nude in almost all scenes, some folks say that.
We also have the beautiful Marta Gastini whose nude scenes along with Lio Tipton were amazeballs in the movie Compulsion but in this movie she is completely dressed.
Almost everyone here on IMDb had already discussed about Dracula changing into a grasshopper which was kinda dope.
Looks like Dario Argento was totally under the influence of Datura. Otherwise what kinda dad shoots her daughter in nude scenes?
What kinda director transforms a Dracula into a grasshopper?
The last one I came across was Eli Roth shooting his wife nude n she getting banged by Keanu Reeves' character in Knock Knock. Truly insane fellas.
Salem's Lot (2024)
Nowhere close to the 1979 version, even the death by antlers is missing but still a good vampire movie.
It was good to see William Saddler aft a long time n his character's fate aft the dialogue, where's the sheriff is hilarious.
Many many compare it with the 1979 version n many may feel that it is too short n that ther is no character development. This all is related to the budget. Did anyone see any big names or famous/recognisable faces? Nuh.
While the 1979 version inspired many movies, Fright Night, Lost Boys n it's scene of the death by antlers, Antlers 2021, The Ritual 2017, Get Out, VFW, Silent Night Deadly Night, Ice Spiders, Friday the 13th 2009 n the recent The Killer's Game.
This version indeed brought back the good old glory days where vampire were intimidating n true blood sucking compared to the lousy Vampire Diaries, Twilight n The Original.
Tobe Hooper did a fantastic job with the 1979 version, Kurt Barlow played by Reggie Nalder
is a direct homage to the famous vampire played by Max Schreck in F. W. Murnau's Nosferatu (1922).
This version too retained the same look, sharp rodent like teeth, bald head n long ears.
The Killer's Game (2024)
Non stop blood splattering action.
A true popcorn action entertainment.
Tons of shootings, tons of bashing, tons of grenades explosions, lots of hand to hand combat n lottuva head exploding like watermelons stuff.
This movie is more bloody n violent than most recent horror movies.
Dave Batista did a fantastic job n he will definitely become something of a cult figure with his no-holds-barred approach to the killings of his opponents.
His character doesn't show any mercy to female villains. The way he bashes em, man.
Watch out for the neck slashing via the glass, the teeth breaking punch, the dhobi pachad (Hindi word for the wrestling style) and the way he picks up a guy via feet and smashes his body on the wall, man.
We have Terry Crews, Scott Adkins, Marko Zaror,
Drew McIntyre, the two hotties Lucy Cork n Shaina West.
Check out for the death by antlers scene.
This movie joins "Death by Antlers" list:
Salem's Lot 1979, The Lost Boys, Antlers 2021, The Ritual 2017, Get Out, VFW, Silent Night Deadly Night, Ice Spiders n Friday the 13th 2009.
Jigra (2024)
While Divya Khosla claims that this is copy of her film, she fails to mention that she too copied from Next Three Days which itself is a remake of Anything for Her.
Ther was another Hindi copy, Tera Suroor.
Yeehaw! My earlier review which got more than 100 likes got deleted without it contradicting submission guidelines.
That means some fellas r burning.
Divya Khosla is a babe, a true peach but she aint an actor n she shud not pass comments.
I saw this on the third day of its release with my son n daughter in Movietime Suburbia Bandra. My wife skipped it.
The theatre was packed but it ain't anywhere close to Le Reve.
While I was not keen on watching this, I jus went for my kids' sake.
Generous with 7 only cos of Manoj Pahwa's acting n whatever scenes he was present, those scenes were epic.
Also generous cos my son n daughter loved the brother sister relationship n I admit it was well done.
Lastly the other best stuff is the song Yaari hai Imaan...
This movie has tons of wtf n far fetched situations, unnecessary Indian characters are added n that too in an International prison set up.
The last scene involving the trucks nearing the prison wall is a lol. Bad computer graphics.
Unnecessary fight scene between Alia's character n the ex cop. She survives the ordeal. Pops in some pain killers n voila.
No explanation of why the father commits suicide.
No respect shown towards the ex cop who dies fighting Alia's character. At least she cud have put her jacket on his face.
The easiest n most dumbest was the boat chase n how conveniently they get inside the boat.
How conveniently n easily they get outta the van while Manoj Pahwa's character stays inside.
The riots in the prison was again a big lol n Alia's character dodging bullets, cops, inmates is like a bad video game.
My all time fav prison escape movies:Le Trou, A Man Escaped, The Great Escape, Escape from Pretoria, Von Ryan's Express, Escape from Alcatraz, Escape Plan, Lonely are the Brave, The Escapist...
Candyman: Day of the Dead (1999)
Nothing new only the end of the myth was satisfying, poor Wade Williams.
Saw this for the first time since I am on Candyman marathon.
Of course it was on fast forward mode.
This is the third installment in the Candyman series and a direct sequel to the 1995 film Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh.
Surprisingly the movie was made in 1999 but the events takes place in 2020.
Wow this one has good amt of nudity n since Tony Todd is the producer, he gets to kiss the nude woman. The first two has zero nudity inspite of a shower scene in part 2.
In part 2 they show that his hand was chopped off by a rusted saw n his body was rubbed with honey so that bees can wreak havoc on him n he was not tied on a crucifix/pole but he was on the ground.
In this part he was shown as tied on a crucifix n then the honey n bees stuff.
We have Wade Williams before his Prison Break stint.
Strange Darling (2023)
An unpredictable thriller after a long time.
I got pulled into seeing this due to the positive reviews here on IMDb n the trailer on YouTube.
The movie starts like ur typical final girl running away from someone, injured, bleeding n screaming. The non linear method totally worked in favour of the movie.
While some scenes are very bloody, somehow the tension is missing.
Also most fellas are praising Willa Fitzgerald's acting but I found her very irritating cos her overacting n weird facial expressions.
In fact Kyle Gallner gave a terrific performance but his character does stupid things in this movie.
Spoilers below do not read further if u haven't seen the movie.
Kyle Gallner's character inspite of being a cop doesn't act very fast. When the Lady shoots bear spray on his face, he cud have easily survived the ordeal by staying away for a while but he unnecessary goes closer to the Lady. There was no need to go closer to the Lady.
El hoyo 2 (2024)
A huge disappointment. I loved the first one.
After having enjoyed part 1, I was looking forward for this one but got hugely disappointed.
Inspite of too many questions n almost no answers, the first was was really impressive n captivating.
Expected some answers n a satisfying ending from part 2, but the makers didn't show anything new, in fact more questions are left unanswered, same things from part 1 are included, nothing new or thrilling stuff added in this one.
The suspense, the dreadful atmosphere, the dark comic, etc which were there in part 1 is all missing in part 2.
Mayb the makers are short of ideas of how to conclude the film.
Amber Alert (2024)
Simple and straightforward but nail bitingly tensed thriller.
I got pulled into this aft watching the trailer on YouTube n the other reason being Hayden Panettiere. I only remember her from Scream 4 n she was pretty slim n illecebrous in that one.
She has put on weight since it's been 14 years.
Nevertheless I still like her.
The two things i can't stand in a movie is rape n child at peril.
This movie's subject is very tough, child abduction n I heaved a sigh of relief when the movie ended.
The two lead actors were very believable n they gave good performances. Also the woman who played the mother is terrific. As audience we can feel her trauma.
I read that this one is a remake of a 2012 found footage movie. Thank God, they skipped the found footage style. Can't stand shaky cam, flickering lights n found footage style like movies.
Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1995)
More of an origin story n the atrocities aka rituals of Southern evangelicalism and white supremacy.
I saw this almost a decade ago. Revisited it recently on a fast forward mode.
This is the 2nd in the series n the settings change from Chicago to New Orleans.
While this one has more blood n gore n more backstory, somehow it lacked the atmosphere n tension compared to the original.
The story takes place in New Orleans during the Mardi Gras n we don't get to see a single nude woman. Even the shower scene is deprived of nudity.
Obviously this was made to cash in on the success of its predecessor and there's nothing wrong in that but the makers shud have at least paid attention to the script.
None of the kills are worth mentioning and they r not at all shocking or terrifying.
The kids coming to rescue the lead female character was a big lol.
Candyman (1992)
Scary, surreal n well made horror movie.
I first saw this in the early 2k on cable tv, was Sony channel. All the gory/bloody scenes were deleted cos of the weird censor board in my beloved country. Even Virginia Madsen's partial nudity was chopped off.
The Hot Spot was my fav erotic movie as a teen. She was indeed hot n like a true peach in the 90s.
Revisited this movie recently as I wanna check out the remake version.
Found the movie very atmospheric, creepy, violent, scary n most importantly very well made one.
Tony Todd's towering personality n his voice makes him truly scary in this one.
The scenes in the ghetto area is very surrealistic n like a terrifying nightmare.
The Pack (1977)
They are not exposed to radiation, nor are they genetically enhanced, nor are they experimented upon, nor some kinda virus or parasite, they r simply ravenous....
I first saw this in the early 90s. Found it to b terrifying then.
Revisited it recently.
Robert Clouse gave some good movies, Enter the Dragon, Game of Death, Deadly Eyes, Cynthia Rockrocks' China O'Brien, Bolo Yeung's Ironheart, Darker Than Amber, Gymkata n this one.
This movie is one of the best in terms of killer dogs movie.
In this movie the dogs r not exposed to any radiation, nor any kinda experiment done unto them and they r not at all genetically modified.
They r just left deserted by their owners n they became mean, savage n developed a taste for human meat.
The fat guy who gets chased and cornered
on a cliff is disturbing, his death.
The father of the fat guy is a true moron.
The attack scenes are bloody violent n I think Cujo borrowed the lady in the car scene from this movie.
The saddest was the old blind man's fate.
Trampa infernal (1989)
I thot the end must b shocking, considering how the killer ties the girl n sets the trap, Arnold n Sylvester style....
I saw this for the first time on 28th sept which is coincidentally the lead actor's (Nacho, the curly mullet hair fella) birthday.
I got pulled into seeing this aft reading some glowing reviews, especially of Coventry n BA_Harrison.
I got disappointed.
The kills r lame, the killer seems to be a big fan of Freddy Krueger n Michael Myers.
One of the redeeming factor is the setting n day time photography.
There r 3 busty babes and a serene lake but we do not get to see any skinny dipping.
We have the regular characters make the usual bad choices. Rather than fleeing away in the van, they stop, go in the wrong way, leaving one babe alone in the van....
Deranged (1974)
Beware of Ezra's weapon, a femur bone.
I first saw this in the mid 90s on a vhs.
Revisited it recently.
Hitchcock's Psycho n Hooper's TCM are the best when it comes to portraying the terrifying deeds and insane mind of Ed Gein but this little n lesser known horror movie shud be seen at least once by serial killer movie fans.
Inspite of being the budget tiny, the makers really did a fantastic job.
Tom Savini's work ain't that cool compared to his later 80s movies.
Roberts Blossom did a nice job of portraying Ed Gein and with his constant lips smacking face, I couldn't stop laughing.
The movie is darkly comical at times, the fatty lady seducing Ezra Cobb and Ezra putting a spoon in an open skull, as if scooping an icecream.
The old man in the pub telling Ezra how he wishes to blow off the waitress' brain by *ucking her but alas his *ick can no longer stand n the "ick appears like the hanging neck of a turkey.
Ezra beating a drum made outta human skin.
I wonder how Christopher Walken or Harvey Keitel wud have portrayed Ezra Cobb/Ed Gein.
Gueules noires (2023)
A terrific monster movie. Finally a frightening n intimidating monster.
I wanted to watch this on a big screen when it released in May 2024 but there was only one show of 11 pm and that too nowhere in Bandra bt far off in town side.
Missed it cos of my early morning gym training duty.
Saw this last nite on Amazon Prime.
I enjoyed this movie.
It has one of the coolest monster, terrifying n intimidating.
There is ample amount of tension n the kills r gruesome.
The best part is that inspite of the movie's entire setting taking place in a mine and an even deeper cave, without any sunlight or artificial light, one can make out wots going on.
No hand held shaky cam stuff n no flickering lights.
Wish they had shown more of the monster's past.
Don 2 (2011)
One of the best action movie from Bollywood. U cannot imagine anyone else portraying Don except SRK.
I first saw this in Gaiety, Bandra, when it first released in Dec 2011. Saw this with my dad and entire family, first day first show.
The theatre was jam packed n the crowds went berserk, clapping n whistling.
I don't know why my earlier review got deleted.
Writing this again aft revisiting few days back.
The movie is a direct sequel to Don (2006) and the story takes place 5 years after the events of the previous film.
The opening sequence is loaded with action n SRK gave a solid performance. He looked cool with his long hair.
The movie has ample amount of action, the locations r amazing, the direction n editing top notch.
The hand to hand combat n the fight with the villain Jabbar is amazeballs.
Jabbar is an intimidating villain.
Heard they are planning part 3 without SRK.
Will probably skip part 3.
Monica O My Darling (2022)
Solid entertainment. The line "Who sleeps with someone from accounts department" is so true.
As a gym instructor, I always make fun of fellas from accounts department cos of their pot bellies n thakela (low energy) attitude.
I saw this few days back on Netflix.
I regret not seeing this earlier.
The movie is very entertaining n has enuff thrills n humor.
Haven't read Burutasu No Shinzou by Keigo Higashino upon which this movie is based on.
Rajkumar Rao wearing a t-shirt with the logo of Giant Robo is epic. The guy is a terrific actor.
The movie has three good babes.
I didn't like Huma Qureshi.
Akansha Ranjan Kapoor is a busty babe, Radhika is an athletic built babe n Zayn Marie Khan is hot.
Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank (2024)
Rajkumar Rao is a treat to watch.
I saw this on 15th Aug, 1st day of its release with my entire family in Le Reve Bandra.
The movie is heavily inspired by Hammer Film Productions & The Universal Classic Monsters.
Similar to Hammer horror n Universal Monsters films, this one too has good visuals and the movie shudnt be taken seriously.
Similar to Universal Monster movies n Hammer Horror, the makers of this movie are trying to create a world where all the characters from their horror films may dwell.
The headless fella is copied from Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
Rajkumar Rao once again gave a solid performance.
Once again there were no kills n nobody dies.
The worst part is the addition of Akshay Kumar.
In short, The Headless Horseman meets Universal Monsters n Hammer Horror films but in a good way.
Stree (2018)
Hilarious movie aided by top notch performance by Rajkumar Rao.
I saw this few days back after 6 years of its release cos my daughter booked the tickets of part 2.
Honestly, the movie has terrific acting by Rajkumar Rao. He is a treat to watch. His comic timing is amazing.
The movie has ample amount of hilarious moments but the scare factor is very mild.
Pankaj Tripathi also gave a memorable performance.
The small town's narrow lanes, dimly lit alleys, etc are all reminiscent of Hammer horror movies.
Apart from scare factor, the makers didn't bother to put emphasis on the cinematography. A good horror movie needs good atmosphere.
Also there were not enuff kills. In fact nobody dies.
The twist/end was predictable.
Let's enjoy part 2 on big screen on Independence Day, God willing.
Jai Hind.
True Romance (1993)
Fast paced n stylish movie with lottuva memorable scenes n amazing characters.
I first saw this in the late 90s on a vhs.
Revisited the remastered director's cut recently.
This movie has everything, romance, drama, action, shot gun blasting, terrific star cast n superb acting by Oldman, Slater n Arquette.
Of course it has homage to Presley, Chibba n McQueen's Bullit.
Oldman gave one of cinema's most brutal, scar faced villain. His dreadlock wig n contact lens from Dracula made him a very memorable villain inspite of having few mins role.
The meeting n exchange of words between Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper is crazy n tension filled.
The only scene i didn't like was when Patricia Arquette gets beaten but the way she fights back is 100 times better than most horror movie final girl act.
She was gorgeous in this movie.
In a Violent Nature (2024)
A solid throwback to the 80s in the woods slasher. The killer in this movie is more brutal than Victor Crowley.
Comparisons with FT13, TCM, Adam Green's Hatchet, Just Before Dawn n various backwoods 80s slashers is inevitable but this one has plenty of bloody kills n ample amount of tension.
While it has the same old trope.
When the bad guy/monster/evil stuff is
down, make sure they r fully down by severing their head or at least their arms but here we again have idiots who shows their back to the killer who is down.
Here we again have the same idiots who rather than putting bullets after bullets in the killer, they go very close to the killer who is down.
In some scenes the camera jus lingers on.
In some scenes we just get to c the killer walk around n hear his footsteps crushing the weeds n dry twigs.
The first kill is offscreen but the rest are bloody mayhem.
The yoga girl dies in the most brutal (ironically in a super hyper extended spine).
As a gym instructor I always tell my clients not to do hyper extension of any joints.
As audiences we are waiting for the killer to pounce on the car or something to come out from the woods. Some solid suspense maintained.
The camera-work supplies the film with unbearable tension level at some scenes.
Another best part is the juxtaposition. The serene n calm forest with birds chirping, animals making their sounds, still n calm lake contrasted with the killer wreaking mayhem.
Prey (2022)
This is the best after the 1987 one. It deserved a theatrical release.
I first saw this almost two years back n loved it.
This one deserved a theatrical release man.
This is the fifth film in the main series and seventh in the overall franchise. It is a prequel to the first four films.
This one is set in 1719, nearly 268 years before the events of the first film.
This one has mind blowing action scenes n superb cinematography.
The movie is filled with lots of tension n has lottuva fierce animal attack scenes n has a masterpiece climax.
It has lots of dismemberments, gory kills and some awesome hand-to-hand combat.
This one has some of the best kills in the franchise.
Taabe's combat with the predator was mind-blowing. This guy single handedly, without technology almost beated the Predator. I always felt the Predator was a big cheater using his camouflaging behaviour.
Nattevagten - Dæmoner går i arv (2023)
Predictable but effective thriller.
I saw this directly after seeing it's predecessor.
In this sequel we have Martin's daughter Emma who conveniently takes a job as a night watch in the same forensic department where her parents were traumatized by a psycho.
She finds out that the psycho is alive at a nearby asylum. She becomes obsessed to see him.
At the same time we have a copycat killer on the prowl.
The movie is very predictable but it is atmospheric n an effective thriller.
It takes more than 40 mins before the first kill.
One of the best part is that they have included many new characters, not just so that they can be killed off.
How Brent gets to get out on weekends inspite of him being a brutal killer was beyond me.
