Awful acting and story telling, no apparent motive, many plot holes. The ladies are gorgeous, the tension is great at the beginning, then it's a cartoonish type of interaction... I understand that it's 2015 and maybe there could be some warming to the current state of matter regarding feminism and the systematically roasting of pointed predators, but it wasn't a fair reading of such movement almost ten years ago, nor the current state of things. Roth is a fire starter, but keeps getting quite thin on the subtext of his movies, I can't recall anything worth watching more than once and that puts him on the worth-forgetting tab for me...
I don't usually write reviews, because I believe it's fair to make a simple movie that nobody likes, but I did this one surprised by the current 6.8 rate at IMDB (August 21, 2024)
Lame and plain... Kind of a fan service at the beginning, not any other trace relating it to the original. The good versus the bad, with a predictable double "plot twist". All the other characters, including the second main guy, were pointless. It's pretty much the same during two hours, sad acting (even from the female protagonist) and such a forced love plot... Doesn't it feel like the tough guy could be her uncle?

Such a poor remake! Nothing makes sense, not the puzzles, not the characters, not even the gory moments... Such a waste of time. I watch it until the end just to write this review and let you know that there isn't a good scene/sequence in the whole movie.
One dialogue before the final one is the only thing that have a little bit coherence to me... Besides that, the rest of the movie is pure bad acting, over stressed dialogues, not even the visuals within the Cube make sense. Can't imagine why the director got interested in doing something so boring.
It would be bearable if gore was the core object...
