Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare (2023)
One of the most creative screenplays in kannada cinema
Such a creative storytelling with liberties that few kannada filmmakers take. Very refreshing to see such movies coming out. Watch this without any specific biases.
Weekend at Bernie's meets Dude Where's my car. It almost feels like the movie was written by someone who's high and will be enjoyed more if you're high. A cast of mostly new actors, with so many unique characters that is not common in Kannada Cinema. There are a handful of cringe moments, but the creativity of the rest of the movie carries it quite well. Minor story arcs and drama in small moments throughout the movie and an artistic representation of hostel life makes this movie standout from the crowd.
Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020)
An unimaginative story that is poorly executed
I had very high expectations from this movie after having read reviews that lauded this movie. But, it turned out to be one of the most unimaginative and dull movies I have seen in a very long time. The screenplay is plain; there are writing choices (like unnecessary flashbacks and poor character development) that are an insult to the audience's intelligence. The visual effects seem to be of the caliber as those seen in video games in mid 2000s. Performances by leads, both Devgn and Khan, are one-dimensional leave much to be desired. A couple of silver linings in an otherwise dull movie are the action sequences, which seem to be new and innovative for Indian movies and the background score. A completely skippable movie; it's a good thing it's only two hours long.
