Crossing Jordan: For Harry, with Love & Squalor (2002)
Bad
The only thing that saves this episode is Carl Reiner, which is why I gave it a 3 instead of a 1. Carl is wonderful even when he is playing the part of an obnoxious jerk. The other story is complete garbage. Jordan, who is stubborn, obstinate, opinionated, inflexible, and unyielding, allows herself to be completely manipulated by some weird stranger in a bar. This is so completely out of character, that it just would not happen; and the guy is just cringeworthy. No offense to Brian Stokes Mitchell's acting ability, but the way he plays this weirdo makes him about as attractive as a butt rash. Ugh.
Murder, She Wrote: Good-Bye Charlie (1990)
Really Bad
If this is an example of Jessica's writing, I can't believe she ever sold a single book. The story is just ridiculous. It's boring and uninteresting, and the acting, from usually decent actors, is horrible! It actually seems like a parody of a mystery novel, with horrible characters, and a silly plot. The best Murder She Wrote stories are usually the ones that take place in Cabot Cove. The characters that live there are so much better than all the random people when they venture out into the rest of the world. Even people who wander into Cabot Cove are better developed and better written than the random folks. I may start skipping any episode not set in Cabot Cove; especially those, like this one, that are Jessica's novels.
Homicide: Life on the Street: Colors (1995)
Disappointing
I love this show, because the acting is superb, and the stories are usually compelling and not run of the mill. This one, however, was disappointing. I felt like it sent the wrong message, all the way around. First, we have Bayliss acting like a complete jerk, with no repercussions. He's pounding on the window during an interrogation, and no one says a word. Then he actually breaks the window, and again, no one says a word; they just act like it's no big deal. Totally inappropriate. Next, his cousin assaults a police officer who is trying to handcuff him, and again, no one says a word; there are no repercussions. Finally, the cousin gets away with murder. He probably didn't intentionally shoot the kid, but he still killed him, and should not have gotten off with no repercussions. And through it all and afterward, Bayliss continues to act like a jerk, like Pembleton did something wrong, which he didn't.
The Mentalist: Green Thumb (2013)
Meh
Not really a fan of Abbot, and I really dislike Fischer. The new "gang" just doesn't work for me, and I miss Van Pelt and Rigsby. I'll give it another show, to see if things get better but so far I have my doubts. I realize things couldn't go back to the way they were, but it worked before because of the way everyone worked together. Adding new people and getting rid of favorites is too big of a change. The dynamic of the group is strained; Lisbon and Jane are struggling to make peace, Cho is hardly in it and acts weird when he is. Van Pelt and Rigsby are missing entirely and Abbot just isn't very likable. Fischer is completely unlikable; she's arrogant and doesn't honestly seem too bright. Probably should have ended the show when they ended Red John.
The Mentalist: Red Sails in the Sunset (2012)
Boring
I didn't like the whole Lorelie story when it started, and still don't. It's just uninteresting and tiresome. I'm also really tired of the whole Red John story; it has dragged on to the point that I've lost interest. They should have let it end at the end of season four, although they needed something more dramatic. We all knew he didn't actually kill Red John, because Red John never would have made it that easy for Patrick to kill him. I find the process of Patrick working with CBI to solve cases a lot more interesting than the whole Red John hullabaloo, and wish they would go back to just doing that. This episode added nothing to the story and was so boring it put me to sleep.
The Mentalist: Bloodsport (2011)
Ugh
Way too much testosterone in this episode for me. I hate fighting of any kind, so I wasn't a fan of this story from the start. Everyone in this episode is a complete jerk, and it got real tiresome real fast. I know there are obnoxious people in the world, but it's not that interesting or entertaining to watch them for an hour. No one in this show was remotely likable, and I didn't care if they all died. Rowdy (appropriate name) was way over the top. I'll admit that anyone who fights for a living must be brainless, but his character was ridiculous. So was Manny, and his wife, and pretty much everyone involved in the story. And I am REAL tired of LaRoche. I know, he's internal affairs, but why does he have to be such an a**hole? I like this show, but it's not enjoyable when the good guys are more despicable than the bad guys.
The Mentalist: Code Red (2010)
Really Bad
Jane is often a little much, but the stunt he pulls in this episode is really horrible and truly unforgivable. I have a feeling in real life, the people in the facility he pulled his "ruse" on would have hunted him down and beat the crap out of him. And why do the other agencies involved in these investigations always have to be complete jerks? Agent Harken's attitude and behavior are ridiculously over the top. Honestly, the whole plot line was kind of silly, and seemed to just be trying to play on everyone's emotions. Also, the acting was not up to the usual standard, including Jane. Skippable.
Frasier (2023)
Abysmal
Wow, is this bad. Kelsey Grammer is the only decent actor in the bunch, and he acts like he'd rather be somewhere else. The writing is awful, and not even remotely funny. The characters are the most uninteresting, unlikable people I have ever seen. His son is a jerk and his nephew is a buffoon. His friend is annoying and Eve is irritating. I really wanted to like this because I loved the original Frasier, but I barely made it through one episode, and I won't waste my time on another one. It's embarrassing how bad this is. Huge disappointment.
Abd now I will babble aimlessly to fulfil the ridiculous minimum character requirement.
Jane Doe: The Wrong Face (2005)
Entertaining, but could be better
Overall, I like the shows in this series. The plots are interesting, the acting is decent, and the characters are likable. However, there are problems that could be easily fixed. First, we need less family. I get the juxtaposition of the soccer mom with her normal family life and the spy working for the government, but the family is annoying. The kids are too cutesy, and the constant "affection" between Jane and her husband is way overdone. Maybe I'm just cynical, but no one I know who's been married 20 years, is that touchy feely and constantly kissing each other. Second is the music. The constant background music is intrusive and makes it difficult to concentrate on the show. The music is too loud, it's just...weird sounding, and it doesn't go along with what's happening on the screen. Same with the background noise; there's constant noise of people talking, kids screaming, traffic, all sorts of noise, that again, doesn't go along with what's actually happening. Aside from that, the shows are entertaining.
Mystery Woman: Game Time (2005)
Meh
Some of these stories are pretty enjoyable, but this isn't one of them. The actual story was so convoluted it was just silly. Most of the time, everyone was running around doing nothing, creating filler for the story, I guess, which got really boring after a while. It just dragged on and on, and every 5 minutes they added a new twist, a new suspect, until it was just tiresome. The biggest problem was that none of the characters were even remotely likable; everyone was horrible. I didn't care about the victim, or who killed him or any of the suspects, because they were all obnoxious. Oh, and I knew who the killer was very early on; it was pretty obvious.
Framed for Murder: A Fixer Upper Mystery (2017)
Interesting
I kept picturing Colin Ferguson as a washing machine, which threw me off for a while, but he's actually a good actor (one of the few in this cast). I didn't know it was Jewel was playing the lead until I read the credits (I'm not that familiar with her); at least that explains the reason for the sappy song she sang at the funeral. Jewel seems nice and sweet, but the hair and clothing don't fit her being a contractor, and her facial expressions are way over-exaggerated. Some of the scenes and dialog were pretty poorly written too. I really wanted to like it because it was an interesting story, but acting by most of the cast was pretty mediocre, which made it hard to watch.
Mystery 101: Deadly History (2021)
Boring
This just wasn't up to the standard of the other installments. Not sure what exactly was wrong, but it was just boring, up until the big reveal at the end. The additional ending they tacked on, was obviously just to leave a big cliffhanger so everyone would be chomping at the bit waiting for the next story. Then they apparently cancelled the show. This actually didn't bother me as much as the other reviewers, although it was disappointing that we don't know where the story was heading in the future. It was a good show and I enjoyed it, but I'm not that invested in TV characters to get that upset about it.
Murder by Text (2017)
Pretty good
This one wasn't as good as the others, because of the side stories, and the obvious killer. I knew who the killer was very early on; I've seen and read so many murder mysteries that sometimes the 'how it was done' is something I've seen so many times, it's just obvious. Dani's sister, and her attitude toward Dani really irritated me; but their story did turn out okay in the end. What bothered me even more was the daughter story line. She was a total jerk to her Dad, through the whole thing, and I was really disappointed that she got her way in the end. She's so smug and arrogant, her character overall is really annoying. Not crazy about the actress either. My other complaint is that they use actors who can't sing to play people who sing, like Kurt Teixeira, who I'm sorry to say also isn't a very good actor.
Haunted by Murder (2022)
Off
Overall, I like the Aurora Teagarden movies; they're simple and kind of silly, but they're entertaining. This one, however, was just kind of off. It's been a year since the last movie, but the characters look like they've aged a lot more than a year. And what is up with Niall Matter??? He looks awful! I looked at the credits to see who was playing the part of Nick, and was surprised to see it was still Niall Matter. The long, shaggy, dirty looking hair and horrible black, bushy fake looking beard make him look like a homeless person, or he's dressed for Halloween. He also seems to have lost all of his personality; he wanders around like he's dazed and confused. When he's fighting with the murderer, who is a small, petite woman, he almost loses the battle. The story wasn't so bad, although obvious and predictable, but it just seemed like everyone was calling it in and didn't really want to be there.
FBI: Consequences (2024)
Bad
Seems like we've done this before; the criminal is somehow attached to someone in the FBI, so everything gets screwed up. Having the kid's father be an ex-FBI agent didn't make the story better, it just complicated everything and made it less interesting. From the beginning, Jubal should have been taken off the case. If they had gone to interview the kid officially, his dad wouldn't have tried to bribe them like he did Jubal. They might not have gotten to search and find the drugs then, but they would have worked it out eventually. The 'consequences' here should have been Jubal getting reprimanded, and suspended, for telling the agents to stand down, because the kid/hostage was his godson. In every other situation like this, the agents managed to shoot the perp and save the hostage. It was just a poorly written story that could have been a lot more interesting.
FBI: Creating a Monster (2024)
Not a great story
I'm tired of them having a cop or an FBI agent be the bad guy. Also, the Muslim/terrorist story line is getting repetitive. I would have given it a lower rating except I really like Elyes Gabal, he's a good actor. Missed Scola in this episode, he's my favorite and even Tiffany is starting to grow on me. OA needs to find a new expression; he just looks constipated all the time. At least Jubal was hardly in it, so we were spared his constant yelling. Maggie has really become insufferable; she's been going steadily downhill since the first time she took maternity leave. She's an arrogant, know-it-all, judgmental hypocrite. She's constantly telling everyone else what to do, while doing whatever she wants, ignoring everyone else, including her superiors. It's getting tiresome. Not sure why I keep watching; guess I'm just hoping it works its way back to the great show from the first couple of seasons.
FBI: Gone Baby Gone (2021)
Tiresome
So, Maggie completely screws up an FBI operation, causes an officer to get shot, and there are no consequences? Everyone is just like, hey, it's okay? Yeah, not buying it. I hope the sister-addict story-line goes away soon; I know it's supposed to be all poignant and emotional, but I'm just not feeling it. This whole story was just...tiresome. Dad od's while waiting to pay ransom for his daughter? Really??? Then attacks the kidnapper and gets killed. Then Mom just keeps defending him and making up excuses? So now the poor kid has no parents, because Dad is dead and Mom is in prison. By the end, I'd really just lost interest.
FBI: Crazy Love (2021)
Okay
The story itself was okay, not great, but somewhat interesting and entertaining. The biggest problem with this show was Agent Nestor Vertiz. I'm sorry, but he is just repulsive. I'm not sure if Josh Segarra is a bad actor, or it's just the way he's playing this part (I've never seen him in anything before) but he's just smarmy. He's not remotely likable, and I honestly find it really hard to believe that Maggie would waste two minutes of her time on a guy like him. Apparently he's been added just to add conflict, which isn't really needed; in fact, all of the posturing and chest-puffing between him and OA just distracts from the story and the rest of the agents. I'm not crazy about Tiffany, either, but she seems to be improving. Nestor just keeps getting worse.
FBI: Partners in Crime (2019)
Decent Show
I like this show so far. The stories as a whole are pretty good and I like the characters, although Agent Bell gets a little annoying at times. I will say that this episode was not as good as some of the earlier ones, but it was decent entertainment. I sometimes wonder if other reviewers watched the same show I did, because some of the comments seem to come out of left field and have nothing to do with what I saw. It was kind of an odd story; two girls being kidnapped for the sole purpose of this guy dragging them along with him to rob banks? Why? Agent Mosier says he wanted "family", but that doesn't really make much sense either. Overall. A decent show.
Hawaii Five-O: Deadly Persuasion (1975)
Boring
We just had a frame of McGarrett in the last episode, now we have a frame of Danny. The writers need to come up with some new ideas. On top of that, the story just isn't interesting. It's another recycled, old, tired story; kid defending a parent they believe was wrongly accused. And of course he's crazy, and talks to his dead father. Overall the story is really boring; we spent forever watching this kid break into the lab, which was tiresome, and then watched him build his weapon, which was boring. Maybe I've just seen too many of these stories. I hope Kario Salem has a day job, because he'll never make it as an actor, he was terrible.
Northern Exposure: Old Tree (1993)
Painful
I love this show, and yes, it's because of its unexpected "quirky" plot lines; but this episode was painful to watch. Shelly is already one of my least favorite characters. She acts like mentally challenged sixteen-year-old, and although it's mildly entertaining, it borders on being disturbing. All that aside, the whole singing all of her dialog was just annoying. A little of it might have been funny, but there was way, way too much of it. The scenes went on way too long, the songs were weird, and no offence to Cynthia Geary, but I'm not a fan of her singing voice. The rest of the story line was good, but I just didn't find the Shelly story the least bit entertaining.
The Office: Get the Girl (2012)
Ugh
Yeah, I'm done. I never liked Michael Scott, but I kept watching because the rest of the cast made it worthwhile. I was happy when Michael left, and contrary to everyone else, I like Robert California.
This episode was the end. I'm tired of the Erin and Andy story line, it went on too long and this is just stupid. Pam's character has also descended into nothing but a whiny, useless baby machine. The death knell however is Nellie. I absolutely loathe her character and the actress who plays her is awful as well. There's just no reason to watch anymore.
That's the end of my review, this is just filler.
The Office (2005)
Embarrassing and Beyond Ridiculous
There are parts of this show here and there that are funny; the parts that do NOT include Michael Scott. I like Steve Carell, but he is just awful in this, and in all honesty, it isn't his fault, because he's playing the part he's been given. The Michael Scott character isn't funny. He's so obnoxious, stupid, egotistical, narcissistic, and clueless, that it is embarrassing to watch him. Also, someone like him would have been fired after about 10 minutes; no way any company anywhere would ever put up with him. Most of the other characters (except Packer) are funny and entertaining which is why this got 4 stars instead of 1. It could be a good show if they hadn't gone over the top with the Michael Scott character.
EDIT: Everyone told me the first season was rough, but to just wait, it would get better. I wrote this review halfway through season 2, and was still waiting. I'm now halfway through season 3, and it has gotten worse. Michael is absolutely cringe-worthy. Everything he says is racist, bigoted, stereo types, and is just disgusting. There are so many HR violations, this moron would have been sued into oblivion. The addition of a second Michael, in the form of Andy Bernard (a complete douchebag), and a woman pumping breast milk at her desk, then breastfeeding her baby in the middle of the office was part of what made it worse.
Riverdale: Chapter Eighty-Eight: Citizen Lodge (2021)
Meh
I really dislike Hiram Lodge. I know, that's the whole point of a villain, but he's just gotten tiresome. He does the same old thing, over and over, and it ceased being entertaining a long time ago.
So, we have this whole backstory that's supposed to make us feel sympathy? I'm sorry, but I don't buy it. He has regrets about not giving his father a second chance, and gives Reggie this whole song and dance about giving his father a second chance, while being the most ruthless, uncompassionate, uncaring person on the face of the earth. He pursued a TEENAGER, relentlessly, trying to KILL him because he what...disrespected him? Please...this was a pointless, totally unbelievable and BORING episode,
Riverdale: Chapter Seventy-Eight: The Preppy Murders (2021)
Good and Bad
Am I the only one that knew Charles was a killer? I mean, we knew from the beginning he had Betty's phone bugged, and that Chic was his boyfriend; I've just been waiting for the reveal.
I guess I'm also the only one who is really tired of Archie. All he does is fight, constantly with everyone, lie about everything, mope around and make really stupid decisions, and it's just not entertaining to me at all. I wish Fred would have just died of a heart attack, instead of making a whole story line about this dumb kid and his father; it seems disrespectful to Luke Perry to me.
I WAS surprised about Jellybean. That was...weird, and rather disturbing, honestly, and her motive was pretty lame. Would have made more sense if Charles had done that too.
I've been tired of Hiram for a very long time, I just keep hoping someone actually takes him out. Veronica needs a better story line.
Cheryl and her family just add the crazy to the show, and although it's over the top at times, it's entertaining.
Betty and Jughead are the most interesting characters, and have the most interesting stories. Hopefully they don't screw that up with the Archie/Betty thing, that really didn't amount to anything.
