Arcadian is a tale of two teenagers learning to be men, first by the example of their adopted father and on their own as monsters target their small family and neighborhood.
The film is less a horror film and more a story about boyish romance, responsibility and sibling rivalry. I think in this aspect the film is nicely thought out and acted with two believable brothers who both resent and need each other.
I did not follow all the story beats (what was Nicolas Cage doing in the end?), but thought overall there was proper catharsis and an ending that was full of possibilities.
I think that some elements of the story is sketched out and lacking detail, such as about the monsters and their agenda. In a sense there is not a need for more detail as the story is really about the brothers. But at the end I had a feeling like the movie could be an episode of an ongoing tv show rather than a film that was complete as a whole.
7/10. I'd watch a sequel.
Note: Nicolas Cage has gained a reputation for being eccentric in his films, but he's really more of a sober father figure in this film. He also doesn't take center point. Which is fine as it's nice to see young actors get their spotlight.
