Akadimia Platonos (2009)
That's all Greek to me!!
As I expected it was the appropriate choice of movie for a Saturday night. It's a great movie that combines entertainment and education. I believe that this movie brings Greek cinema in a higher level. All the people that participate in this production have made great job. The story is about a middle-aged man, Stavros whose life hasn't any surprises. He has a mini-market and not a lot of customers. With his friends, who have more or less the same interests, relax all day drinking coffee and playing football. Their only problems are Albanians. One of them has even trained his dog to bark to Albanians. However, one day Stavros' mother recognises her lost son in the eyes of an Albanian. The whole life of the main characters turns upside down wandering if Stavros is from Albania or not. On the other hand Savros tries to get her ex-wife back. Antonis Kafetzopoulos is unbelievable in the role. The movie is a combination of drama and comedy. It shows a reality that happens in so many countries and nations. I'm sure you will laugh but it will also make you think. I totally recommend it.
Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky (2009)
Two different cultures
This movie has a great atmosphere and a great actress in the leading role. Anna Mouglalis is unbelievable. I believe that her character and the prospect that the director wants to show should be a lesson for every woman that wants to be independent in our days. I would also like to comment the respect and kindness among the members of the Russian family. The film admits that Russians are strongly related to art and education. Even ordinary people appreciate the value of arts, particularly music, as it's shown in the film. On the other hand we can see a love story between two different people, a family man and a woman that she has only one goal: to live her every moment as it was her last. She doesn't care about moralities and relationships as Igor. Coco and Igor move aside their beliefs and cultures and let their passions to guide them.
Memento (2000)
The ultimate psycho
When it finished I was surprised by the fact that it does not explain what really happened. You have to decide on your own. It was fascinating. It's a brilliant movie.
A reason to watch it? Because not very often movies like that find their way to the screen. Apart from that, the direction is very good. The camera follows every possible reaction at the face's of the actors. The script is also very clever. It is a very adventurous film. What I found excellent in this movie, is that it describes the whole story from the end to the beginning. However, you don't know what is going to happen because it finishes in a very unexpected way.
Speaking about the story, it is about a man who cannot create new memory after the murder of his wife. It describes what he discovered so as to be able to remember the most important things that happen in his life. And how some people tried to get benefit from his illness. Guy Pearce is very good in the leading role.
The message of the film? "NEVER TRUST ANYBODY"
El laberinto del fauno (2006)
Fairy Tail?
I cannot recommend this movie to anyone who has lost his sensitivity. It is about a dream of a girl who tries, through her fairy tails,to explore another world. Her name is something we must carefully consider.Ofelia, which is a Greek word, means some kind of debt or obligation. That you have to do something for a purpose, even if you have to sacrifice an innocent life.On the real life Ofelia must take care of her mother and come to terms with her new father. Her father is captain Vidal,a fascist soldier who has only two aims in his life:to kill all the communists and to keep Ofelia's mother alive in order to born their baby.Try to find the symbolisms in this film ,which are many.Don't try to understand, where does the unrealistic part stop and reality starts.Let this movie speak in your child's heart.
