Yôkoso jitsuryoku shijô shugi no kyôshitsu e (2017)
Don't get fooled by the interesting setup.. it's a harem Anime
The premise seemed very interesting.
A cool protagonist and mysterious circumstances allow for plottwist that work. I was hooked from minute 1. But then, it inevitably became more predictable.
The plot seems cool. They live in a campus as highschool students and get way more money for every month than they could possibly need. But not all is as it seems. Sounds good? Should be... but the focus of the anime is by no means its story. Its the "girls":
First the gloomy girl. Sure, an old anime trope but ok. Then the "happy go lucky" girl also seeking out the MC for no reason what so ever. Okay.... Less interesting.
But starting episode 2 the fanservice, butt shots, slow body shots showing girl party and breast zoom ins start to pile up. They serve NO plot point. And of course other girls come in and you have the classic anime harem with more than 3 girls (Stopped at number 3) fawning over the very much overpowered main character. Do yourself a favour and give this a pass.
Hawkeye (2021)
If you like cheese cake, give it a go
I was hoping for some nice archery action show and this sort of delivered. Sure, Hawkeye is just the no. 2 in this show and that was the first disappointment. But the main thing that dragged the show down in my eyes was the level of cheesiness. All characters are pretty much 1 or 2 dimensional and all the lines are just so predictable. No really feeling of drama even though the story is supposed to be dramatic.
It IS a show for children. 105% for children. Which is a shame because Hawkeye as a character seemed to be one the more adult ones. It should be called "The Kate Bishop Show feat. Hawkeye" and it is a show about a girl whos character is 100% 14 year old girl put in the body of a "22 year old" (as if..). Not a single character trait about her makes the proclaimed age believable. Too bad! Could have been great.
The Office: Goodbye, Michael (2011)
Are most of these reviews fake?
This was an ok episode. I expected more but it was sadly just ok. Dwights, Jims and Pams goodbye were really heartfelt and sweet but overall it wasn't anything to write home about. If it had been the show ending by Michael leaving it could have worked very well, but like this with the "new boss" its just meh.
They killed the show by letting Steve leave and Will is absolutely horrible.
Arcane: League of Legends: The Base Violence Necessary for Change (2021)
Very Good Episode with 2 major problems
I loved the cinematography and the emotional moments in this episode and I completely understand why it's so beloved.
Still I have 2 problems with it:
1. Powders 180° is very much not understandable. I mean sure she would be hurt but just turn to the man who caused all of this? Really? Seems a bit lazy.
2. I could never really get invested in Vi and Powders relationship since I am familiar with the basic lore and knew how it must turn out. Still they spent the better part of 3 episodes on that. Could have used the time more wisely.
Ano hi mita hana no namae o bokutachi wa mada shiranai. (2011)
Emotional Anime but a lot of forced drama to strech the runtime
I like this anime quite a lot. It's a really nice story about moving on and forgiving yourself and others. I'll say it proudly, I cried multiple times. The ending was very emotional as were many other scenes.
The anime will make you feel sad but wholesome at the same time. Although at times unlikeable, pretty much all characters seems to be genuine and real which I liked.
Now to the negative. So much drama was forcefully added to raise the stakes. Why does Menma not show how she can hold objects to prove her existence in like episode 2? Are you really telling me she didn't think of that for WEEKS without anything else to do? I get 'suspension of disbelieve' but that was just stupid. Yeah, sure, all characters grew up in a way during those episodes but wow that was dumb.
Every time a character runs away just to make up 4 scenes later I thought how much unnecessary drama was added. It just doesn't feel natural. I know what they were trying to do and I like the character journey but the execution was lacking.
Also: Really? The reason she came back was just to "make him cry"? If it had been that she wanted everybody to be open about their feelings, ok. But that reason felt just thrown in at the last second.
Shigatsu wa kimi no uso (2014)
Maybe the most you'll ever feel watching anime
This anime is amazing. I heard good things about it so I decided to give it a try, but I didn't not expect to feel so many emotions.
It starts of like almost any middle/high school anime ever. Cliche puns, a predictable complicated love situation mixed with the tension of the piano "tournaments" that might be familiar to anyone who has watched "Mori no piano".
To be honest, I disliked the first 4-5 episodes quite a bit because they seemed to predictable. They could have done that better and it's the only reason, I can't give this anime 10/10.
But trust me, it gets much better. The music they used enhances the emotional situations so well. This anime is not about who "wins the contest" but about what motivates you and what human feelings are. Beautiful.
Piano no Mori (2018)
Lots of nice classical music, uninspired animation
I'm a huge classical music fan. I play the piano a lot and I love doing so which is why I thought this series will be perfect for me, but I was sadly mistaken.
First of all, I would give the first season 8/10
The good:
Fast paced storytelling, heartwarming storys and a likeable protagonist and antagonist (if you can even call him that).
Beautiful music and it makes one want to play the piano.
The bad:
You can't really enjoy a piece of music since it will be cut of at any second. On the other hand, sometimes they go on for a minute even though you've heard it a lot already just to "show the reactions".
This is a big point, in a Manga you can write how it makes people feel but in animation, you should be able to feel that as well. which of course is very difficult, and they didn't really succeed.
The cringe-worthy:
The animation. It's a 2D animation with 3D when they play the piano. The movement of the hands is very pleasant and rarely seen in animation, but when the whole body is shown, it looks creepy and unpleasant. But after a season, I got used to it.
Season 2:
This season discarded almost everything good about the first and tried to better the cringe-worthiness by removing the 3D.
But, they made it worse. Now there are juist still shots shown of them playing the piano. Sometimes they are clearly playing with both hands and the still shows them with one hand in the air.
The fast paced story comes to a halt because the entire season is just one big competition and the animation gets so lazy they use still shots about 50% of the time. Did the budget run out? What happend?
The good:
The protagonist is still likeable and the music still good (except that it's now exclusively Chopin, which get's a bit boring after a few hours)
4/10
Overall 6/10
First season is recommendable, the second season not so much.
7Seeds (2019)
The "specialists" who set up this whole scenario are idiots
Wow.
This was stupid.
It began really interestingly with 4 people in a unknown land and how they are going to survive. It got more and more random. The plot was the least thought out plot I've seen in a long time.
Don't get me wrong. The characters are understandable. Not relatable, but their motives are somewhat clear. But everyone who prepared for this apocalypse was so stupid I really can't wrap my head around it. I hear it's based on a manga. I imagine that manga has similar problems.
I was really invested up to the moment they introduced the "Summer A" team. Wow. That plot was so stupid. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Who in the world would put children up against each other especially if they've known each other FOR THEIR ENTIER LIFE? They don't just loose their friends, they have to watch them being killed by the people who tought you every thing that you know.... Of course they will be so deeply traumatized that they can't hardly get anything done! And they are the "experts"? Come on! They would rather kill 20-30 really capable and skilled youngsters and replace them by common children AND traumatize the remaning 7 than just use all those trained children? Why? What the hell?
The whole amusementpark episode also really felt unnecessary but maybe they'll come back to that at some point. I'll probably not watch it though.
Animationwise it was ok I guess. Hard to get used to and felt a little cheap but it wasn't a big factor after 2 episodes.
