Pearl Harbor (2001)
Extremely underrated
Pearl Harbor is probably the most underrated film of 2001. I watched this movie on a bad TV and widescreen video (not a good combination) and I still loved it. I didn't know what to expect when I saw it. The trailer looked really good but because of all the bad reviews I expected it to suck. It didn't. Sure, some of it is a bit biased and some of the romance is corny, but what do you expect? Another Titanic? The special effects were at their best and the acting was good (not great, but good). The silent, slow motion scenes were also effective, as they are in any war movie.
I don't care what other people say about Pearl Harbor. It has my praise. 9 out 10.
Grease (1978)
6.7?
Why the low rating? Grease is one of the best musicals of all time (in my opinion) and a classic at that. Not to mention it made over $300 million in 1978 which, with inflation, would be one of the highest grossing movies of all time. I don't know what inspired me to see Grease but one day I just thought 'I want to see Grease' so I hired it, and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the songs, especially 'Grease is the Word'. Filmed in the 70's they certainly did a good depiction of the 50's, although there were a few noticeable errors. I especially liked the Pink Ladies.
Grease is a very enjoyable movie and, unlike the Sound of Music, where they break into song so often that it gets irritating, Grease is really good.
8 ½ out of 10
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
I cannot stress how great this movie is!
--warning: possible spoilers-- I'd have to say, that before I saw this movie I wasn't much for musicals. But the modern day techno/ pop style just added to the greatness of this dazzling, romantic film. I have nothing but praise for Aussie Director (go the Aussies!) Baz Luhrmann. This movie was not only romantic, beautiful, sad, and fun, but one of a kind. The acting was excellent, particularly by Richard Roxburgh and Nicole Kidman (also both Aussies). In closing I have to say that I love this movie and I hope it is nominated for best picture at this years Oscars. This critically acclaimed masterpiece is a must see for anyone. Even if you don't like musicals, you'll love this one!
9 ½ out of 10 for Moulin Rouge!
I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
What a load of cr@p!
I'm sorry, but this movie sucked! It wasn't remotely scary and as for the acting, I can honestly say that I've never seen worse! I don't usually give bad reviews but this movie was one of the few I just couldn't stand. I only watched it because it was on TV one night and I must have set my expectations too high because I was extremely disappointed. Once again, I apologize to those fans, but Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe in particular were horrible. You could obviously tell they were acting, and if you can tell that an actor/actress is acting then they're not a good actor (If that makes any sense). It has to at least look like they really are scared, but when I saw this movie I could see no reason why people shouldn't send it up. Freddie Prinze Jr. wasn't any better. If you want a movie that is actually scary and has good actors, see a real horror movie like "The Shining" or "The Exorcist" (you'll notice that they're both in the Top 250, and for a reason). But if you'll settle for second best, see the sequel "I Still know what you did last Summer" because it's better. If you want a good teen horror movie see "Scream". It's actually scary!
My Rating: 2 out of 10. The only reason I didn't give it 1 is because it was mildly entertaining.
Rove Live (2000)
Something's changed
Rove Live is probably one of Australia's best TV shows, but something has changed. What happened to "Things sound better when said by Dave"? Not to mention all the other stuff. Rove Live might have high television ratings but it's just not as fun as it used to be. It hardly ever has "Tell Us Where to Go" anymore and the "What the?" 's are becoming repetitive and dull. Rove Live, although successful is becoming too commercialised and every showed is crammed full of A List stars but none of the good old fun. Overall I still enjoy Rove, but I can no longer say it's one of my favourite television shows.
Myst III: Exile (2001)
Great Graphics, great gameplay...
...heaps of fun and easier than Riven. Gives you a detailed idea of the story and I love the beginning scene with Catherine and the baby. The puzzles are easier than Riven's, but thats not saying they're easy. All I can say is, at least you know where you're going in this game. A definite recommendation if you like mystery and intrigue. 10 out of 10!
Myst (1993)
Not bad, but the sequels are better
I never thought I'd live to see the day they'd put video and pc games on imdb, but I saw Tomb Raider the game, so I decided to look up Myst.
Myst was good. But I only bought it because I already had Riven, the first sequel (it came free with our computer). I was expecting something like Riven and was perhaps a little disappointed. I liked it, but it was quite a bit shorter than Riven, Riven's graphics were better and it was a lot more difficult. The surroundings were more intriguing and pleasant.
Myst has pretty good graphics for 1993, is fun, and involves using your brain, which may be too much for some people. But it isn't all that hard. There are a lot of clues along the way as you explore the 4 ages for each piece of the books, or whatever you think you should be looking for.
--- WANING! Hints!--- If you wish to succeed, do not give the brothers all of the papers from the red and blue books that you may collect on your travels through the ages. If you collect all sheets from either the blue or red book and give it to one of the brothers, they will trap you inside the book and you will have to start all over again. ---End hints---
If you liked Myst, I definitely recommend you try the sequels "Riven" and "Myst III: Exile." I also hear there's another sequel in the making. You will probably find Riven and Exile to be a lot better.
I give Myst 7 out of 10.
Riven: The Sequel to Myst (1997)
Not bad for a free game!
We got Riven free when we bought our computer, and it didn't come in a box or a case, but just by looking at the pictures on the discs, I couldn't wait to play this game.
When I first started, I didn't even have a clue of how to get off the first island. But I soon began to understand the game, and I discovered more and more codes and secrets. But this game is so hard. Even with cheats, I had no idea how to play it. I can't even manage to get onto disc 5, which means there's a whole other area I haven't yet discovered. And what exactly is the aim of the game? To complete the puzzles? Then what? I am clueless.
This was the first computer game I ever played, and I thought the graphics were great. And they were! This game is really beautiful, both the settings, and the music, and everything else! The graphics are so good that the game seems real, and yet the whole idea of it is so surreal it's almost like a dream.
I recommend you try this but it is a lot more difficult than it's previous, MYST, and much more of a challenge...
Anyway, a good game, 10 out of 10!
Exit Wounds (2001)
Embarrassing? What's embarrassing is when you can even spell "embarrassing" or "opinion."
Exit Wounds:
I liked this movie, I know that the dialogue was crap, but the action was good. Movies like this don't need good dialogue,(it's not exactly going for an academy award) when will you people realise that?
Yes, the storyline was predictable, and yes it was quite obvious that the good guys (Steven Seagal & DMX) would succeed in the end, nonetheless, I liked this movie, and the action sequences were quite good. Although the fight scenes were also cliched, they were interesting to watch.
My favourite part, I hate to say, was the part at the very end, during the credits, where T.K and Henry were doing the show "Detroit Am."
Overall a good film, in my opinion. What saved it, in the very same way as my favourite film "The Fast and the Furious" was the action and the soundtrack. After saying that, those are not my personal opinions, though people who couldn't find anything good about it, may think so.
8/10 (4 stars).
The Fast and the Furious (2001)
I thought it was great
I have read a lot of reviews on The Fast and the Furious, and most of them were negative.. I saw the fast and the furious twice and I thought it was a really good movie, despite what anyone says. Many people say the actors were crap and didnt act well, but what do you expect? It's not supposed to be going for academy awards here. Its only a low budget film anyway. As for the actors, what is there to say in a movie about cars? "I love you, I hope we'll always be together?" I dont think so! The script was very realistic if you ask me.
The fast car racing was great, and the cars were even better. If you're not into cars then don't see the movie.. I thought the movie was really good and if you like fast cars, street racers and any of the actors whether they are male or female then i definately recommend you go see this!
