Seasons greetings is, like my other favorite Christmas movie, The Holly and the Ivy, the best kind of adult entertainment for the holiday season, but I would welcome the opportunity to watch it any time and have been on the lookout for a DVD of either or both titles for many years. Ayckborne's dialogue for Seasons Greetings is witty, his characters are intelligent, clever, down to earth, eccentric, adorable, crotchety, - a full range of entertaining types. The situations are very funny, and finally quite sad and touching, but not the least bit sentimental the way most movies from Hollywood are when they have anything to do with Christmas. The acting is brilliant and believable in the best British tradition. Donald Kane
For years I've been wondering what ever happened to this. Now I realize that it must have been a terrible embarrassment to everybody involved. How did such a hoary plot even get to be a Broadway play, and a long running one too? If you think about it, watching this fiasco might conceivably awaken in someone the inspiration for ALL ABOUT EVE - but what a giant leap that was! Anyhow, what the two films do have in common are Anne Baxter and Liebestraum . . . which brings me to the musical score, one of the worst I've ever heard. I didn't notice the composer's name; maybe he threatened to sue if they credited him.
