Funny Woman (2022)
Loved it.
I don't know why we need to write six hundred words to say we loved this series. Maybe because it deserves all the praise possible. In an era of horror, melancholy and sci-fi with the intention to make you feel depressed and hate this series is a breath of life. A movie so wonderfully nostalgic for the good old days of comedy, cuteness and innocence and with truth that's still so relatable today. Very original story. Casting excellent. Script completely engaging with an excellent can't take your eyes of cast. Comedy it is but with very real issues. More of this please. Deserves an excellent score.
The Offer (2022)
Obsessed
Addicted and obsessed with this series. The casting one hundred percent hit the nail on the head. Rud, Evans, Charlie, Betty, Francois, Joe, Cesar and more make you not want to take your eyes off the screen. And Hello how great the dialogue. Someone who originally was not a dan of The Godfather, I am now very interested. Knowing what was behind the creation and the sacrifice and it almost not making it to screen. The fight, the artistic battle and belief in this project makes us realize we all have this fight. Whatever we want, we must believe and not waver. It is a good lesson for us all. An incredible entertaining and inspiring series. It's definitely in the re-watch category.
All the Light We Cannot See (2023)
Difficult to follow
I found it difficult to follow or perhaps it was more like work to follow the story simply because all characters no matter what their nationality all spoke in an English or British accent. It requires concentration analysing the uniform and wardrobe with location to determine the character is either German, French, or orher, and I wasn't sure if the young girl and her papa are French or English living in France. I believe the world is well advanced now to handle a few languages in one movie. Or at least choose actors that speak with an accent. The movie storyline is interesting however it's a shame to spoil its authenticity with laziness or assuming viewers can't handle some accents or additional languages. As the viewer I think I speak for many that we wish to be transported into a time and a place.
The Donor Party (2023)
The worst movie ever!
It's official good comedy writing is dead. This was a terribly long, boring and unnecessary movie. The comedy was just vulgar and stupid. There seems be a cancer within Hollywood for the last decade, as writers, directors, producers are unable to grasp what audiences want to see. There is a reason why so many of us keep having to rewatch our old favourite comedies. A woman tricking men into having sex just for sperm. What the hell is this message you're sending out to impressionable young women. And then to end the movie by shaming the woman publicly. A very American take on how women speak and look. Was the movie supposed to be relatable or fantasy? It's a shame because the cast was at a good age to have relatable comedic jokes for a wide audience.
Book Club: The Next Chapter (2023)
Comedy restrained in being funny
I feel awful to criticize this movie, but I'm desperate for writers to turn back the clock to a time when comedy was actually stitches in the belly funny. The movie was sweet, cute and a little funny but overall boring. There were many missed opportunities to carry through a funny scene but kind of felt flat "that's it?". Either it's due to the writers or the actresses but the movie overall felt controlled as if the actresses were not confident to go beyond their safe zone. Also, too American in that the hair and makeup is way overdone making it difficult to believe these are real women, the women seem tight is the only way I can describe it. Perfection is what audiences want to see? But I'm a Father of the Bride and It's Complicated generation. A shame I was really hoping after all these years finally a comedy movie I can watch over and over again.
Pan Am (2011)
Do Saison 2, 3, 4,5...
Conversations of series, actors, actresses and costumes, the nostalgia of it all is a re-occurring conversation. The topics so often talked about is how much is missed the way series and movies used to be. PAN AM was suggested to me by a colleague, a colleague not even American but French in France. That they couldn't believe that the series stopped at Season 1. I was sceptique of course, but I'm on Episode 11 and I strongly believe it was a gros error to stop. This could have been a major hit and I'm sure it would have been. I'm so sorry to not continue. It would be like watching the only Saison 1 of Friends, Seinfeld, Sex and the City, Mad Men, Mrs Maisel, Masters of Sex, etc...
She's French (2017)
Absolute rubbish
The women in the documentary are adorable, and I totally get their confusion on many of the stereotypes. As an expatriate now living in France over 10 years, I have not once seen the stereotype French woman. It is a myth most likely a reality of an epoque of the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, even the era of the 1920s and before. But today, these women dress no different or look no different to what I see in the streets or beaches of Sydney, the streets of Milan, or other cities. We can blame the fact on the globalization of mega brands for this. In Paris you see brands like H&M, Zara, Converse, New Balance, and other low cost brands that make cheap and affordable clothes.
Father of the Bride (2022)
Finally, a good comedy like the old days!
Cinema used to be all about comedy, romance and an overall feel good experience. Now a days sadly this is lost if not almost extinct. This movie was a pleasant surprise. It was fresh, cute, funny and romantic. No vulgarity, it was tastefully done. No women cosmetically enhanced, which meant finally we could enjoy looking at a cast that looks natural which is rare to see in American movies these days. I think the negative comments don't help the future of comedy. I trust that Andy Garcia knows good comedy. It's definitely a movie to buy because it's easy to watch again. I thought the cast was the perfect fit. The new adaptation of Father of the Bride was clever and well done. Bravo.
Indian Matchmaking (2020)
Waiting on Season 3
How much do we love this series ! Loving all the personalities on the show as unique they all are. Love the colour, the traditions, the laughter, the couples and their love for each other. I love the concept of the show, I'm sorry if there a viewers that don't see the bright side of this show. I think it's very brave of the candidates to so openly put their personal issues out onto Netflix. Waiting with anticipation for Season 3.
Blue Hawaii (1961)
Love, Love, Love !
What to say. Nostalgia for movies of this era. Can't take my eyes of the colors, wardrobe, the women, the dancing, cars and Elvis! What an era to live in. Love these movies, they should never be forgotten. The way Elvis lights up that screen is unbelievable. And the women were so beautiful and everyone having so much fun. Great cinema of this era. Going to the movies were about happiness, laughter and feeling good.
El Buen Patrón (2021)
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent
There are no words. Brilliant. Javier Bardem was not only delicious but played the role brilliantly, as usual. His fellow cast were engaging and just as entertaining. It was a great script. It was very relatable. The humor was perfect because we can so relate! It's life, it's human. We see both sides, can be compassionate for both. Really enjoyed, and yes very easy to watch again.
Shining Vale (2022)
Rings true
As I knew a family who lived in a haunted house this series is not far from the truth. I really enjoyed this series, the actors are brilliant and I was surprised to find out it is actually comical. Enjoyed the comedy element. Including historical themes like women who were sent away for being "emotional" or "hysterical" pulls it to be not just entertaining but a reality based series. I find the series thoroughly entertaining. If there is more, I'm waiting Pat.
Elvis (2022)
Casting and music
Like most of you I love Elvis. I love Tom Hanks too, but in this story I found having a well known actor like Tom Hanks distract from Elvis. All I could see was Tom Hanks and failed to see Tom Parker. The addition of modern rap music lost me and took me out of the period that was Elvis. The actress playing Priscilla was not young enough, or not having that fuller face and unfortunately it was later that I understood it was her. But, if the real Priscilla was happy with the casting then that's all that matters. Minor things. Overall I respect Baz for putting the film together. It was captivating, thrilling and nostalgic, even those of us born after his death miss Elvis. Long live the King. Thank you Baz.
The Con Is On (2018)
Showing off actresses?
I'm not sure what this movie is about. Is it a movie to show off the actresses body in multiple evening gowns? And to demonstrate drinking alcohol and doing drugs for an entire length of a movie? Again, what's the movie about? Anyone? I gave a 3 because I like the actresses and their evening gowns, and the properties featured. It's visual candy and that's about it.
How to Please a Woman (2022)
Loved it!!!
Absolutely brilliant!!! Great business idea and a very funny movie. I think because it rings so true. The script, actresses and actors did an amazing job. This movie was watched by both Australians and French, and we all agreed totally brilliant idea for the movie. Well executed. Bravo.
Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris (2022)
Wonderful
This film is a breath of fresh air. It's rare these days to see a film that's inspirational, uplifting and is pleasing on the eyes. To get a peak behind the scenes of what it could have been like during the early Dior years is a treat. The story of Mrs Harris is possibly the most wonderful story I've seen in a very long time.
The First Lady (2022)
WOW!
Finally, a great series!!! I love the insight into these incredible women and the dynamic of them as a powerhouse couple. The actors and actresses are to be commended. Loving the timelines with the flashbacks. Brilliantly done.
And Just Like That... (2021)
And Just Like That It Changed My Engagement
It doesn't work for me. I'm the generation that grew up with Sex and the City. I miss the girls. The revolutionary woman Samantha Jones who gave our generation the boost of confidence to go for our desires equal to any man is no longer. I miss Kim Cattrall. I'm disappointed that John or "Big" was killed off in the first episode. I'm sorry that Kristin Davis did an overdose of fillers, she does not need this and unfortunately it distracts from her acting and the story. It's in all quite depressing series. I used to laugh and feel empowered, lightened, refreshed after watching Sex and the City. Every episode of And Just like That is too heavy for me, and depressing, and I need to reboot SATC to get my mojo back! And to get my gals back! They were the good times.
Ozark (2017)
Brilliant ! And the end, WOW!
Absolutely the most brilliant series ever written. The ending was just, WOW. Again, brilliant. The cast, there are no other words but brilliant. It's nice to know that it was a supper supportive cast and crew. If I could be so lucky to work on a project like Ozark. Bravo to all involved. To the Writers, I look forward to what's in the future.
The 355 (2022)
Five for the killer gal cast
Love the all powerful killer gal cast. But all those guns and just shooting, chasing, more guns, more shooting, it's too easy to makes movies like this just a bunch of shooting. The storyline is too done before, it's a chip to end the world. I encourage female lead roles and female action movies, but this movie I definitely can not watch again or recommend. Sorry girls, I'm a big supporter of you but this movie was just a flop for me. I don't think you need to have thousands of guns and shoot up places and everyone to show power and strength. Writers, directors and producers try to be more clever, more trickster maybe to captivate.
Toscana (2022)
Attractive movie title.
A story of changing your life unexpectedly and falling in love in Tuscany is certainly an attractive storyline, particularly if you fantasize doing the same. The movie was good, however I expected it to be a light romantic comedy. After the movie I felt quite depressed after the movie even though it ended well. It was a little too heavy, that's just my personal taste. So, it's not a feel good Holiday or A Good Year movie. But I recommend. I like the interchange of languages, it's authentic to how we can exchange in Europe, sometimes speaking two or three languages in a conversation.
Kurier (2019)
Impressive ! WOW.
Incredibly well filmed. The storyline, events and characters brought an intensity to the film, I had my nose to the screen! This historical event and it's players in history brought back to life on screen I found intensely fascinating. Brilliant movie. Not sure why anyone would think otherwise. It takes an impressive effort to put a story like this together and WOW factor direction and acting. Highly recommend !
Najmro: Kocha, kradnie, szanuje (2021)
WOW!!! Yes, Yes, Yes!
I knew in the first few seconds this would be a great movie! Absolutely brilliantly put together. Firstly, the casting choice fits perfectly to the story, and loving the cheeky humor, the wardrobe nostalgia, action scenes brilliant and cool slow motion effects, and of course the heated and cheeky romance. Hands down and I don't say it often but this ticks all the boxes and beyond kind of movie. Bravo.
Masters of Sex (2013)
Absolutely Brilliant !
Deserves all the awards. Brilliantly executed in every way and highly captivating. The writers have done an excellent job so much so you are completely captivated with every word as if they're your own. Brilliant casting, perfect actually. The costumes make me utterly envious that I did not live during the 50s and 60s, it's pleasant on the eyes. Love the balance between series issues and certain comical actors and incidents. Score 10/10.
Dog (2022)
Puppy love. Great story.
We don't hear enough about dogs in service or their assistance in public life. And we are reminded about the men and their four legged friends that trauma is very real for all. The story was well delivered with comedy, love, loss and cuteness. Let us be reminded and thankful.
