The screenwriter should be sentenced to jail for this.
Not sure to which extent Ridley Scott has participated in this fiasco, my bet is that he's just letting them use his name...or maybe I'm wrong and he just lost his touch and all standards regarding quality film making ...
They massacred the memories of a great and iconic movie. Almost all scenes are a bad copy of the original movie. They even chose actors that would ressemble physically other characters of the original movie. The situations, some character actions or dialogues are not believable at all. The actors are not convincing...even though there are great professionals working in this movie. My feeling is that the filmmakers thought that buying some great names (movie, director, actors..) everything was done to attract audiences and it was not necessary to spend more money on good writers.

I consider myself a fan of the book, which is absolutely amazing and would recommend everyone to read it. Dumas was a genius. It is true that the movie made lots of cuts and changed things that I disagree and pissed me off, same as other reviewers have said...I don't like that we are not shown in detail how great and good person Edmond is, how much he has to suffer, which makes the story and his dilemma with vengeance much deeper and poignant, didn't like how they changed the end with Haydee either. But aside from this, I was able to enjoy the movie, and I was in tears by the end of it. The movie is beautiful to look at, the cinematography, the clothing..., and the sceneries are spectacular. The actors are very good too. The story will move you even if your heart is made of stone. The overall result is 3h of pure thrill and entertainment. I recommend it to everyone.
Except for a couple of things that I find a bit unrealistic, it's a pretty decent movie. The setup is super simple with only three actors for the 99% of the movie time...It is surprising how engaging and absorbing it can be, being a story so simple. The actors are good at conveying emotions, especially the lady who's amazing and very intense. A I found myself at the verge of tears several times during the movie. The topic is super hard and brings us back to the Rwanda genocide. I don't know much details about this dark episode of recent history, but the personal dramas of these characters were enough to make me feel the horror of war and how it dehumanises people. But the movie also brings a bit of light, warmth and humanity aside from all the darkness we go through.
The movie can be a bit surrealistic and poetic at times. The cinematography and sound are outstanding too...very artistic. All in all, it was a good movie, well filmed, the actors doing a good job and it gives food for thought, about horrible things that happened in the past and how people have power to change things for the worse...or the better.
Not the best movie out there, but it was worth the time and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone interested in the topic, and cinema lovers that want to enjoy something a bit out of the mainstream formulas.
