The X Files: Hollywood A.D. (2000)
The Funniest Moment
I honestly laughed out loud at the "running" gag. Yes, pun intended.
When the women stepped away for the running-in-heels workshop, I refocused my attention downstage on the men, who presently got upstaged!
At the first CLOP of the shoes I looked up, and saw "Scully" running left. Noticed the "observing actor" on the phone. Refocused downstage. CLOP CLOP CLOP ... looked back. WTH? Saw her running back. Smiled to myself. (Well, she had to get back somehow.)
Refocus. The guys were truly doing Nothing!
Then I heard it again. A second run. All out. The observer still oblivious. I laughed so hard. I think there was still another lap. This was played up for full effect and it worked for me!
The Orville: Nothing Left on Earth Excepting Fishes (2019)
The Writing!
I've enjoyed the series so far, but this ep compelled me to comment.
When Kelly tells Ed he has 15 smiles, then counts them off, I did a little mini-swoon. Also, the scenes where Kelly guides Gordon through his training to a point of self-awareness. Solid writing.
Then, ending with the Command Diplomatic Solution wrapped things up neatly ... but Billy Joel's Always a Woman over Teleya's departure brought a tear to my eye.
Kudos to the writers.
Legends of Tomorrow: Ship Broken (2020)
Creative. Ingenious. Twisted.
This is LoT at it's finest. Wild, unconventional, fun. I love it. It's dark, funny , and sexy.
An awesome hour of television programming.
More. More. MORE!
Westworld: Passed Pawn (2020)
Superb
Action. Drama. F/X.
Visually stunning.
Directed by Helen Shaver.
Imagine. Imagine being gifted with this episode. To direct such a storied battle! Two epic opponents.
Kong v. Godzilla. Superman v. Batman.
Sith v. Jedi.
Dolores v. Maeve. But which is which?
Why can't they just get along?
Run: Fuck (2020)
Great!
Such an abundance of talent!
Writing. Directing. Performance. This episode, particularly, kicked it up a notch.
Three thoughts I want to share.
Billy reminds me of a ginger Cate Blanchett.
Dierdre Lovejoy is the greatest actress that I've ever not known her name. I don't know why. She's so awesome. But I saw her and kept thinking, I know her, I know her, and then it came to me. She's The Gravedigger from Bones! What a role! What a performance!
Lastly, that scene from the dressing room. Wow! We've already had masturbation scenes and that's what I was prepared for. When she fell out from behind the curtain I gasped, and then laughed out loud. What followed was even MORE unexpected and exhilerating.
If you don't like this we have nothing in common.
Killing Eve: Meetings Have Biscuits (2020)
Would Give It 12 Stars If I Could
Kudos to Director Miranda Bowen, and to the fantastic performances of the cast, especially the leads, Jodie, Sandra, Fiona, and Kim. But, ladies and gentlemen, words matter. The writing was superlative. Laura Neal's contribution was the lynch pin of this entire production.
Art.
The Rachel Maddow Show (2008)
Intelligent and Informative Television
I'm 56. I remember Ted Koppel being my baseline of a trusted news source. If I wanted to know, I wanted to hear what Ted had to say about it. Now, that's Rachel.
I also remember watching things like the Gulf War being beamed into our living rooms every night and seeing history happen in real time. That's how I feel now watching Rachel's coverage of this pandemic.
I record TRMS every night while I'm at work, and watch it first thing when I get home.
Her nature is investigative. Her style is plain-spoken. Her spirit is inspirational. Her wit is sharp and dry. Rachel is a beacon. A pathfinder. Beseeching us to heed and follow, unless you know a better way, and then, by all means, share your better way with us so that we can all make our way out of danger.
When we have a real president, I hope she is awarded with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Lights Out (2020)
Entertaining and Bizarre
The Dance. Wow.
The running firefighter jokes. LoL.
Rosa! Consistently magnificent.
And the winner of the It Came Out of Nowhere But, Man, Am I Glad Award is DOTTIE. I hope she becomes a recurring character.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Action Packed
I like action movies and this one certainly delivered. It was action packed. I liked the CGI, the chases, & the fight scenes. I liked the humorous dialog and the occasional look that made me smile or chuckle. Too many movies today are a jarring amalgam of action and farcical comedy. No thanks. I'll take my action comedy dry, thank you.
It was great having Arnold and Linda back, and honestly, they had all the funny parts. Mackenzie, Natalia, and Gabriel were fantastic. Though a much smaller part Diego Boneta made an impact as Dani's brother.
I would also acknowledge the cinematography, but bad editing is all that kept me from a 10.
Gabriel's Rev9 and Mackenzie's Augment stole the show, for me, with Sarah and the T800 as a solid second line of defense. Man, if I'm calling in the Cavalry, I chose Arnold and Linda!
Grace, the Augment, had 3 phenomenal fights. The sledgehammer scene, and the toolbox smash had me HYPED. But Grace dressed in black with that Chain is my sexuality!
I watched it 4 times. Each time awed by the fights. And smiled at the same lines.
Well deserved 9 of 10 stars.
Westworld: The Winter Line (2020)
Observations
I find the story more interesting outside the park, but it is always a pleasure to have Thandie Newton on my screen.
The f/x during the shootout in the square was remarkable.
I was invested in the droid Maeve chose to liberate her. I like how she struggled to get up the hill.
Ciroc's home was stunning. He chose to dress Maeve in White. I liked his comment calling humanity a band of thugs stumbling from catastrophe to catastrophe.
It pained me to see Maeve under someone else's control again.
Westworld: Parce Domine (2020)
Observations
Dolores is a Divergence. Cal is an Anomoly. Notice the Red&Black motif throughout that ties Dolores, Cal, and Rohoboam together.
Lena Waithe has an effective cameo, but Marshawn Lynch as Giggles, with his mood shirt, was BOMB.
Dolores is first seen in Rebirth, rising naked from the water.
Cal walks to work against the flow while staying just to the left of a light/dark pathway. He is comfortable with his non-organic coworker.
Cal says, "To get on with my life I have to find something, someone, Real." Many comment on the irony. Yet, I see no irony. Dolores is real and he is drawn by that.
Dolores is Real. The Origin if Species. And I don't see her as evil. She is sentient, intelligent, loyal, and operates on a code of honor. She is a survivor of a sexworker culture. A class struggle. She is a Revolutionary against Patriarchy, Colonialism, Elitism, ... pick your poison.
Lost Girls (2020)
I Was Profoundly Moved
I can't speak to how "true" this based-on-true-events movie is, but I was profoundly moved by the events as depicted.
The performances are quiet and powerful, and I found the women to be sympathetic. They aren't perfect people. But neither are the men and I don't read the same amount of judgement in these reviews regarding the men.
I applaud the writing, directing, casting, and performances.
My highest recommendation. Not because it's the greatest movie I've seen, but because its a movie I want people to see for themselves.
Legends of Tomorrow: Mr. Parker's Cul-De-Sac (2020)
A Wild Ride
This episode had a LOT of moving pieces and managed to give each regular cast member, and 5 guest stars, a part to play that contributed to the whole. It was a contemporary symphony that was music to my ears.
It is ALWAYS a pleasure to see Sara (&Ava) in Western garb. Also, Avalance always manages to work through their problems so well.
I was touched by the Ray/Nora/Damien triangle and the wedding was beautiful. I teared up. Sara as the officiate was wonderful.
In trademark LoT humor you have Zari filming Mick fainting, Nate bursting to stop Ray, Nora calling in her 1 Book Club marker, and the frenzied farce of a dinner party where Ava & Sara air their dirty laundry in what looks like the CLUE mansion.
I hate to see Ray & Nora go, but I thought they went out well. The LoT writers and Showrunner did a fantastic job of weaving a winning tale of 2 progressive love stories in 1 episode, meanwhile Supergirl can't find their ass with both hands in 5 Whole SEASONS!
Congratulations! Well done.
Legends of Tomorrow: Mortal Khanbat (2020)
Action!
No shortage on action scenes tonight. Ava & the cop comes to mind.
And speaking of action, there was some Looks exchanged between Charlie & Zari.
I didn't care for B's boo-hoo-hoo attitude but he sure worked that black silk shirt. And the totem-work at the end was impressive.
Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast (2014)
Undiscovered Treasure
I knew of the title. I remember seeing one scene on screen. My grandkids used to watch and watch and watch when it first came out but I didn't watch it. I dismissed it as a kids movie.
I watched it this weekend as my latest grand discovered it. The two of us together went on a quietly magical journey that brought me to tears.
Impressive vocal talent. Wonderfully presented. Beautiful.
Batwoman: Drink Me (2020)
Attempts Were Made
First of all, the 7 was awarded almost entirely on songs alone. The music choices were great, and the club clientel was an olive branch. An attempt to show diversity. A salute to queer Pride.
Also, I liked that Alice saved Kate and Mary.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Captain Kim (2020)
Funny
I enjoyed this episode alot. Boyle and his magic jacket was a great gag.
My favorite lines were the vampire one, and, oh, he killed everyone downstairs.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Redemption in Her Corner (2020)
!!
I haven't watched this show in years. Boredom was the only reason I watched tonight.
Jamie Gray Hyder is phenomenal! I can't watch anything but her when she is on the screen. Her character, Kat, really pulled me in tonight.
Legends of Tomorrow: Miss Me, Kiss Me, Love Me (2020)
Jes and Caity
What can I say? Just watch the show. It speaks for itself!
Glad to have Tala back.
The episode was tight except for the Ray/handcuff scene.
But, if you need a reason to watch, I can give you 3.
Jes. Caity. #Avalance.
Black Lightning: The Book of Markovia: Chapter Three: Motherless ID (2020)
Khalil
It's great to have Khalil out again. Painkiller annoyed me so.
A solid episode. Good story. Good performances from those in the Khalil storyline - Jen, Brandon, TC, all guided by Gambi. I like the young characters.
Spinoff?
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Stunning
Longtime ST:TNG fan. I was blown away.
Cast, story, production values all were fantastic. Casting and costuming, creative.
Very impressed. Looking forward to the rest.
Batwoman: Mine Is a Long and a Sad Tale (2019)
Nicole Kang
There was a clear winner in this ep. It was Nicole Kang's Mary, who not only has the best dialog, but has the cutest outfit, the black/cherry dress. So I chose to be generous in my rating.
Skartston is fun, in flashes, and lovely to look upon, but I'm over Alice and what I feel is an unnecessarily dark backstory. This vehicle is in no way equipped for the CSI-like dark content.
Beth's captor is believably soulless and chilling. I'm buying what he's selling!
No Way they just traded hostages and went their separate ways at the end.
I like Megan Tandy but this wasn't her ep. A hostage to the writing.
Legends of Tomorrow: Terms of Service (2019)
Conflicted 8
There was a lot that was really good about this episode. Basically everything except Gary and John. The high points were great. I wanted to give it a 9. Fairy Godmother/Nora and Charlie/Zari would have won the day.
I could really have done without the strip club in hell but the Triumvirate almost made up for that. But Gary, and the Sara/Ava dance scene was not just Wrong, to me, but Offensive. I wanted to go 7 or lower.
Chose not to let that insenitive, male gaze BS bring down the great contributions of the others.
Legends of Tomorrow: Amazing Grace (2018)
WtH
I am a tremendous fan of LoT! Love the cast, the stories, the vibe. #Avalance is very nearly an addiction for me and S3 is the beginning of the love story. But the episode is probably the worst. I can't remember a story this cringy, and the first season was BAD.
This is the first time I've seen it since it originally aired and it was as bad as I remembered.
Supergirl: The Bottle Episode (2020)
Multiple Shoutouts
The Brainy's were the show-stopper!
Loved them ALL. Math Jacket was Awesome! Wish we could keep Yellow Boots Brainy and Meaghan's Director Brainy. Having Prime go green was especially great. Kudos to Jesse and Meaghan.
Blake Neely's score for this episode was phenomenal. I didn't really get it in the live viewing, but during the rewatch on TheCW app I had headphones. Powerful. I'm frustrated that Mr. Neely's name isnt attached to the show in the epusode guide. I think Music is as important as costume or effects.
