Tokusô sensha-tai Dominion (1993)
Its nothing compared to the original Dominion but still pretty good
The original Dominion tank police is one of the most amazing and outstanding productions in existence. Its was extremely disappointment no, heart breaking to see that it only lasted for 2 hrs in totality. However, the new series can't hold a candle to it and does not feature Buaku who was a major part of the former. It does not continue on the greepeace saga which the original left hanging and instead follows a different storyline. The animation in New Dominion Tank Police is no doubt, excellent, can't really make out if they used CGI or not but it actually looks far better than GITSAC. Its not as dark the older one and is actually quite bright, although not as vibrant. Most of the old voice actors have been retained and thats a major plus. The characters look slightly different though and thats a minus.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
Pulls thorugh
After the horrible part-3 of the series, which was highly embarrassing, made no sense and pure garbage when compared to Part-1 and Part-2, the fourth film makes a sincere attempt to put the franchise back on its feet. While this film certainly views as too abridged when compared to the actual events that happened in the book, the overall effort was quite decent. The acting has certainly become worse in some areas here and there. Ralphe Fiennes does'nt really seem to be sincere as he looks unthreatening and pathetic when playing Voldemort. Not scary at all. Even so, the overall effect of this movie was very good. Although it must be said that Part-4 itself is nothing compared to Part 1 and 2.
Shaft (2000)
Unadultrated racist garbage
While the trailers and commercials for this movie made it look really good, this movie itself is a POS that is openly racist against white people and the plot itself is nothing more than African American revenge. Samuel L. Jackson's worst role ever.
1) The villain is a loser white guy who everybody, throughout the entire movie, hates and pushes around, be it the common drunk in the bar, his dad or his partner in crime. In one scene, a black man enters the bar (with a bunch of white chick sycophants no less) and everybody cheers for him. Then our villain white guy makes some vague racist comment and everybody, I mean, every single one in the bar, boos him and try to sooth the black guy whos been insulted. Nothing wrong with that but that way its been portrayed in the movie is so un-subtle, so explicit and is ridiculously intentional. Then the black guy approaches the white guy, almost as if hes gonna beat him up, instead makes two holes in a napkin and puts it on the white guys head as in KKK! YuK YuK YuK. Then everybody, I mean, everybody, once again starts laughing so hard and cheering for our black hero for his oh so innovative come back at the white racist. The white villain is so humiliated that he kills the black guy and absconds.
2) Shaft beats up the villain's white ass and takes him to court. Bad guy uses influence to get bail. Everybody, I mean, every single freaking one who can be seen, cries and boos in disappointment. Shaft resigns by embarrassingly throwing his badge at the judge.
3) The rest of the plot is about Shaft trying to locate an eyewitness, brotha style, beating up white boys along the way.
4) The white guy is shot in the end by the black martyr's mom. More attempts at drama gone bad.
I'm not even white myself but this movie is so explicitly racist that anyone of any race would find it an utter embarrassment to watch. All the drama of blaxploitation is so fake and so insincere that it makes me want to puke. There are no redeeming qualities about this movie too. The action sucks and the dialogue, trying to be badass, is utterly embarrassing. One of the worst movies ever made.
0/10 stars.
Rambo III (1988)
Ignore the idiotic critics
I don't really understand what the disappointment is all about? This movie falls under the genre of action and thats what it delivers from top to bottom. Were people perhaps expecting a drama? And people can also tell me how often do you get to see the Russians and spetsnaz special forces in realistic action? Sure they were vilified, mowed down easily by Rambo, mostly missed him but as the evil villains, they were highly effective in that role. Don't get me wrong, I've nothing but admiration for the Russian military. The main villain (Russian commander) was also a freaking brilliant actor. The movie did'nt use real Russian helicopter gunships, (they used French ones modified instead) but they were still effective. All in all, this is an utterly brilliant and unique film and I give it 10 stars. Best in the Rambo series.
V for Vendetta (2005)
Pretty good
This film is not quite what I expected but was still one of the best I've seen. Yet it does have certain holes. For example, for all this environment of suppression and oppression blah blah blah, we see very few or no actual examples of those really happening during the movie. Sutler does not really come across as someone you'd hate, fear and despise, rather, he looks sad and pathetic. The second thing is that too much attention is given to explicitly portraying and exaggerating current political topics namely, the Koran being banned and the priest being..you know. They look too intentional in terms of finger pointing. This movie does not have too much action so don't go expecting the same. Lets hope that you are'nt already too familiar with Shakespearean dialogue too.
Batman & Robin (1997)
A different kind of Batman. Entertaining.
Lets get one thing straight - if you're one of those original hardcore Batman fans whose idea of the same is a dark, serious and violent theme as in the previous Batman movies, you'll probably shoot yourself when you see this movie. So don't see it at all. On the other hand, this movie is rip roaring fun when you don't expect such a serious movie in the first place. With over the top acting, robin getting frozen mid-air to bat puns, plant puns, ice puns and bird (robin) puns, 'bat' credit cards (expiration date FOREVER as in Batman forever. Get it? Yuk Yuk Yuk) and Arnie as Mr.Freeze, how can you go wrong? Sure its kind of an insult and parody if you're one of those serious batman fans but if you don't take everything so seriously, this movie is a riot and entertainment wise, the best in the series. Sorry dudes.
