Found some of it to be funny. Jaskier plays his usual jester like part. The Essi Accent was almost unwatchable it was that bad. Geralt never brought anything new. Although was happy it was the voice actor from the games. My biggest problem is that it could have been unique and captivating but it was just a slight twist on Disney's The little mermaid. And I found the musical parts. Barr the bits that are supposed to be sung by the bards to be really off point. The sea witch character might as well have been called Ursula, She sung a song, had tentacles and offered magical temptation to the star crossed lover. As I say. The little mermaid. I had high hopes after watching The Nightmare of the wolf as I enjoyed that, even though it was an origin story for Vesemir and there was no Geralt or the usual characters. But unfortunately it never lived up to my expectations. A dissapointing 4.
Having now seen the entire 6 seasons I still struggle to understand why it works. There is so much about Cobra Kai which is awful. Some of the acting is terrible. The plot lines border on the farcical. The whole show is a melting pot of cringe worthy cheese but it's incredibly enjoyable. There are so many good characters. Multiple interesting relationships. It's funny, heartwarming and although the plotlines are in the main pretty fantastical. They can be action filled and in some cases quite gripping. Bringing back so many of the original cast from the originals was great also. Especially as they went all in and it wasn't just a series of cameos. I especially loved Chozen's character . Found him to be hilarious. Kreese also provided a character journey that was captivating and I found the cigar smoking tyrant enjoyable to watch. A lot of reviews mention nostalgia and how it may be the lynch pin which holds the audiences attention. I found the mix of nostalgia and the expansion of the universe in multiple ways to be well thought out. Undoubtedly ridiculous at times, but thoroughly enjoyable also. A well deserved 8.
Animation looks great. Story is relatively simple but interesting enough to hold your attention for the duration. Vesemirs origin story which provides a peer into how the the Witchers came to be existing in their previously impressive fortress of Kaer Mohren. Interesting explanation of the political dealings between Mages, Witchers and meer mortals. Vesemir is a little too flashy and cocky for my liking. But he was never going to have the same appeal as Geralt. The animation is slick and suitably brutal, the monsters and fight scenes are genuinely captivating. It's a 7 as I wasn't blown away. It was very good. But I suspect as a big fan of the franchise I may be a little bias and even a little overly critical. Capable with a bit of polish. 7.
