What makes a film a classic for all time? Popularity by the critics? Popularity by the public? A comedy that is as funny today as when it was made? Well "The Music Box" had it all!
The critics usually ignored the team's work primarily because of the short film medium, but a Laurel & Hardy short could save a bad feature if promoted properly. The critics even fell in love with this particular film, giving it an Academy Award for Best Short Film.
The formula is simplistic, two everyday guys trying to deliver a piano. That was the charm of Laurel & Hardy, they were just like you and me. Just trying to deal with whatever life gave them. They got into outrageous situations, but never without showing their true emotions.
They were best known for their "Two Reelers" (films that ran about 20 minutes), but did a decent number of "Three Reelers" (you guessed it - 30 minutes). This was undoubtedly the best "Three Reeler" of their career. Timing and pacing was perfect. Oliver's looks of desperation, perfectly timed. You know when things are going to happen and what is going to happen, but you can't imagine the perfection in it's delivery.
A must see (Along with Hog Wild).

Zero Mostel plays a cruel Mexican landowner who is hated by the entire town for a variety of reasons. The town plots against him to free a young man from prison.
Zero is the centerpiece of this mostly unknown comedy and he spends the film behind a big fake mustache, but he still has his trademark stare to carry his comedic gestures. Not the best film of his career but fun if you're a Zero fan.
