The Acolyte (2024)
I wanted to give Disney ONE MORE chance...
I wanted to give Disney ONE MORE chance...but this show, every episode so far have been absolutely horrible... Horrendous, in fact.
The acting is WORSE than the CW. In fact, the whole show is filmed on a green screen soundstage, cgi everywhere , no organic-feeling characters, no organic-feeling creatures and costumes. It all feels SO SO FORCED.
Cinematography is abysmal and the WORST imitation music of John Williams ever. I tried. I watched all 3 episodes, My spouse even LAUGHED at what i was watching, (not knowing what it was) asked me if i was watching a B-movie for kicks! Lol
Good luck to those who likely burned their careers on this dreck.
Monk: Mr. Monk and the Buried Treasure (2007)
HONK YOUR HORN!!!
This irritated me beyond belief!! When they were buried, all they had to do was honk the horn!! Even separately, they could have started their car and revved the engine, (it had a bad muffler so it would be at least 90+dB) AND further, in 2007, cellular was a hybridized signal of analog AND digital. If they rebooted or removed and reconnected the batteries, at least one phone would ping a new, closer tower. Loose Gravel does NOT BLOCK SIGNAL.
Lastly, they also could have fired a Police-issued firearm!!! Lol I realize it is an idiosyncrasy of Monk not to carry, but it's a great way to bring attention and location to oneself. I love this show, but one star removed for this mild irritation lol.
Monk: Mr. Monk and the Sleeping Suspect (2003)
TAMIL STEALS THE EPISODE!!👏👏👏
This was the PINNACLE of Monk episodes! This one was SO creative and fun. This was by far one of the top 2 most creative episodes in the series yet, you will LOVE trying to solve this one. It's a real head scratcher.
I know i mentioned it but TAMIL the Mailm---Federal Employee ("We're all just different shades of Blue!"😂) I wish Tamil would have been a show regular from here, maybe he shined to bright over Monk? Hmmm... Other aspects of the episode are similar to most, nice vibe of background jazz club music, fantastic acting (as usual) and hilarious drama. Monk is not Chinatown, it is more akin to Sherlock Holmes, meets Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory.
The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy (2024)
I'm so sorry, but this was HORRIBLE
Bright, fun colors, musical score is ok, but it doesn't match the scenes very well.
The voice acting is wooden & bizarre. Almost as if it sounds like they're just cold-reading a new script...?
Each episode is more painful than the last and i keep thinking it will improve to no avail.
These obvious anti-male tropes, and of course the "big dumb male" stereotypes and narratives that cannot hold a story together!!
My wife even glanced over at me and said, "This is AWFUL" by the second episode LOL So if this was made for 'HER..' ... i don't think they even hit the board, let alone a bullseye for a 'watchable' show.
I can't recommend this, especially when i see so much artistic hacking from Rick & Morty and other successful creations. As the kids say: This ain't it bro.
Resident Evil (2022)
Wow, worse than i imagined!!
Completely unwatchable.
Terrible acting.
ZERO source material review, besides character names.
Terrible wooden attempt at 'foreboding' and scares.
Whoever directed this, needs their director's card pulled.
Cinematography was awful, annoying focus shots of silly faces or jump scares.
I do not recommend wasting your time on this FAKE Resident Evil show.
Hunters: In the Belly of the Whale (2020)
What a FANTASTIC OPENER!
I don't know what else to say, but this season opener was tense, shocking and brilliant!
The soundtrack/score is perfect, the cinematography dramatic and i am wholly interested in every character.
Looking forward to more episodes.
Aquaman (2018)
Wow, This was WAY WORSE than i expected!
First of all, Jason, you CANNOT ACT. He's just a bad Denim model walking around brooding and just being generally uninteresting and wooden.
The story is so ridiculous, fits NONE of the canon, and felt 'childish,' and unfinished.
The director seems to think that CGI effects will compensate for no story, boring characters and a silly, SILLY premise.
I can't even recommend renting. Sorry.
Respect the Jux (2022)
Don't even rent
I will make an easy list to follow:
-Terrible, cheesy acting
-Terrible art direction and cinematography
-ZERO chemistry amongst the characters
-Story is underdeveloped and contrived
-Silly way of politicizing America as a place where you HAVE to be a criminal to 'get ahead'
-Stereotypes everywhere
-Ending was absurd.
The Quest (2022)
Wow..SWING AND A MISS!!! Awful
The biggest challenge of this show was to actually sit through it.
Hammy, wooden acting.
Tropes and jokes that never land.
A mish mash and rehash of tales already told with better direction and effects.
I'm sorry but i can't recommend, i wanted to like this so much, as i'm a huge fan of the Fantasy genre, but this was unwatchable.
Get a different director and try again is about all i can say.
The Wonder Years (1988)
There's a reason the score is twice the reboot
THIS is the real 'Wonder Years. Heartfelt, no preaching, no politics, just family bonding, expression of morality and integrity, and BRILLIANT ACTING.
This show will be remembered until the end of time. A true classic is a true classic, not just slapping someone else's name on the Mona Lisa with some markers.
The Wonder Years (2021)
So disappointing...
I went into the show so excited (i loved the original) and all the new show did was preach and has no redeeming value.
The acting is 'average' and the characters unfortunately aren't relatable due to the USA only being less than 13% this particular demographic.
I was bored and exhausted by the 2nd episode but kept digging in trying to find value.
Nothing. Just more nonsense and derivative narratives we can all hear on you tube or twitter echo chambers elsewhere.
This show destroyed a brilliant legacy and frankly , everyone involved should be ashamed.
Million Dollar Wheels (2022)
If you are a 'car enthusiast' Forget this
More lecturing and abuse of successful people to move an anti-capitalist agenda, disguised as a 'cool car' discussed by people who KNOW NOTHING ABOUT CARS.
Worst few episodes of a show i have seen in the past 5 years.
This was AWFUL. I mean BAD, cheesy.
The Secret KGB UFO Abduction Files (2001)
Feels 'fake' because it is 'Real.'
If you have ever rewatched yourself being recorded unknowingly, it will look fake. I would assert these clips appear to have very 'real' reactions on their faces, and a lot of the concepts & historical accuracy matches the science of Professionals such as Dr. Robert Schoch and Graham Hancock.
It's also fascinating to see the Russians found the same time timeline as Schoch & Hancock! (10,500 B. C.) for alignment within the tomb.
I loved this series.
Moonfall (2022)
A Lexus commercial
So much potential...
Many of the cool premises & theories espoused by some of the greatest science fiction minds.
The movie failed them all.
Dry, wooden acting, no connection with characters, story is rushed, and feels unfinished.
Tokenized cast that feels so forced & without chemistry.
Rent.
Quest for the Lost Civilization (1998)
Absolutely astounding work
Never trust the science...Because it just might change. This documentary series was incredible. We were glued to the set the whole time. The cinematography was gorgeous even in standard definition. If it ever is released in 4k, i would buy it in a heartbeat!
Hancock shows he is true scientist & scholar always questioning & always fighting the accepted narrative.
Much to learn about geography as well as the time periods & influences on beautiful cultures & civilizations.
The Maria Orsic Story (2017)
WRONG CASTING FOR MARIA
Have you seen the real Maria Orsic??? She was absolutely STUNNING. The nobody they cast for her role is a tragedy. I was really excited to see this, but now... Not so much. Please re-cast Maria!
Black Files Declassified (2020)
Really starting to enjoy Mike Baker
I've seen Mike Baker on several other shows, but he really shines here, great analyses on various topics that may have been covered before, but with worthwhile new revelations.
I bought the series i enjoyed it so much.
Watergate (2018)
Choppy, disjointed, not a very good doc
Kissinger sounds like an Austin Powers villain, which is hilarious. Overall it's somewhat informative, however, there are better docs on the subject. It was nice to see 'some' objectivity in the writing, digging for the limited positives of Nixon, but as an overall work of film it is very sloppy & not linear, which this particular story needs in my opinion.
Not terrible, but nothing to be sad you missed.
Deep Space (2016)
My new favorite docuseries!
Each episode gets better and better.
A myriad of scientists and interesting content, as well as perspectives.
I loved this entire series from seasons 1-3
Highly recommended if you love this topic.
The X Files: Lord of the Flies (2001)
Did they change directors?
This was a very 'campy' and goofy episode! It felt like the direction & writing was a whole different team.
I enjoyed it, but it just didn't pull off the 'charm' aspect of cult or camp material.
Very 'different' episode, that misses the mark on the conclusion as well.
Motherless Brooklyn (2019)
A beautiful, perfect neo-noir film set in the 50's
I have not been so engaged in a film since Kubrick or Polanski. Stylish, atmospheric, acted AND directed by a genius.(Norton does both)
There is so much good to say about this film that I am almost at a loss to describe every facet of the picture that engaged me as i watched Norton unflinchingly and perfectly place every necessary element of the film.
His eidetic memory combined with tics was astoundingly accurate and could have EASILY ruined the film, but rather, it fills you with empathy and admiration for the courage & determination of the main character. One should also mention the perfect soundtrack & score as well.
I don't have much else to say but WATCH THIS FILM!
Vikings: Valhalla (2022)
So disappointing
No chemistry among the cast, no engagement with the viewers AND each other. Everything feels wooden and not-memorable.
In the original series, you IMMEDIATELY had chemistry with Floki, Ragnar, Bjorn, etc.
Everyone here is utterly forgettable and no single character really feels special.
Aside from the strange casting, I would prefer to only review the show, a show that just has ZERO CHEMISTRY. Even the scenery and cinematography is lacking.
Netflix has ruined a beautiful series by ignoring their primary demographics, and everything feels like piecemeal.
I gave a one star review because frankly, i truly disliked this interpretation to the point of anger because of what a gem 'Vikings' on History channel was.
Netflix: Do your demographics research & stop pandering. Also get some new directors and costume/hair teams. I LOVED the look of the original cast and watching them grow and evolve.
TWO THUMBS DOWN 👎🏽👎🏽
Anne Boleyn (2021)
Review from someone who actually watched the series
Where to begin...? I'll lay it out in points.
-1. Costumes were the wrong period
-2. Acting was wooden & passionless
-3. Dialogue made no sense or at least 'lacked continuity.'
-4. Extremely slow pacing, which is fine with me normally, but this was excruciating
-5. Cinematography looked like it was done by a film student.
-6. Many better tellings of this story that exist, & i recommend them in regards to the Boleyn saga.
The 355 (2022)
Plot so thin...
Just simply 'bad.' Very hammy & cheesy, i just couldn't get into it. My wife fell asleep, had to keep waking her up! LOL
Acting was wooden and dialogue campy and forced... I just could not figure out what direction it was going!
I'm sorry but i highly recommend avoiding this film, it's a lot of money these days & in this terrible economy.
Silent Night (2021)
Rent? Maybe?? No.
Depressing.
No chemistry amongst actors
VERY DARK. Did not laugh.
Maybe a mild chuckle.
Almost fell asleep.
Not recommended for family viewing unless you are raising existential psychopaths lol
Sorry. I did not like this film at all.
