Hellbender (2021)
Low-fi tale of witchcraft and family
Obviously shot on a low budget, but this family effort manages to creep up on you.
Great soundtrack and good acting performance by the (real life) mother and daughter duo manages to make this a story worth watching - if you manage to overlook its shortcomings.
Strawberry Mansion (2021)
Ode to Imagination
Strawberry Mansion is a film you don't see as much of.
In the vein of Gondry's films like Science of Sleep or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Strawberry Mansion is utterly charming, using everything from a dreamy score, stop motion and great prop and set design to tell a heartwarming tale of love and dreams.
Those Who Walk Away (2022)
One Shot Terror
"Those Who Walk Away" - a film showing a date gone horribly wrong is impressive on a technical scale - delivering the illusion of being shot in one take.
While this is admirable, it also comes with the pitfalls of "one take" films - mainly pacing and dialogue, much of which could have been cut. The lore of the entity is a bit convoluted and some of the acting is a bit wooden - but all in all a good effort and entertaining film.
Hager (2020)
Convoluted but interesting
This film portrays our protagonist's descent into hell in very unique way that left me a bit confused. Nightmare and reality seem to blend into each other and it's hard to know what is really happening.
Visually the film is very interesting and it's unpredictable which is also very good.
Might be good to watch while in acid.
