Hellraiser 2003 Live DVD (2003)
Nice compilation of the Hellraiser hardcore party in Zuidlaren, Holland.
This is a compilation of the Hellraiser hardcore party recorded at April 26th 2003 Zuidlaren, Holland in the Prins Bernardhoeve Hallen. About 3000 party-people where divided over 2 area's going wild on one of the hardest music styles known to mankind. The next list of DJ's played in Area 1. and most of them are on the DVD as well: Buzz Fuzz, Cut A Kaos, E-Noid, Leviathan, Negative A, Outblast, Paul Elstak, Promo, Rotterdam Terror Corps, The Alienator, Tommyknocker. MC: Ruffian Area 2: Bass-D & King Matthew, Darkraver, Dazzler, Distortion, Gizmo, Rob Rob & Mc Joe, Vince. MC: Joe
The music on this DVD is all live recorded, so the music quality is not all that good. But seeing all the people going wild is just great. Watch Rotterdam Terror Corps with it's live-act containing strip-girls. Also there is a half an hour special of Leviathan. They give a great breakcore/hardcore show away up to 200 bpm. Leviathan alias Tellurian is also one of the hellraiser party organizers. This DVD is currently out of print. Voted it 8/10 but is strictly for the hardcore.
Brazilian Brawl (2003)
Low quality Brazillian Jiu Jitsu movie
The movie is about a farmer who took a lone, but wasn't able to pay his debts. So they killed the farmer. The Machudo brothers take over the farm and so they take over the debts as well. The only way to pay these debts is to harvest the crops. But a corrupt cop tries everything to prevent the machudo brothers from harvesting.
Although I did like the movie I still rated it a 5 because the directing is very bad. I wouldn't surprise me if they did every take only once. I don't mind that the acting is bad because they aren't real actors, but the dialogs should have been made smoother and the fighting scenes (what the movie is about) should be faster and more realistic. Especially with the skills they possess it could have been done much better.
The skills are for real, that's why I bought the movie in the first place. I like to see that they just used (i think) a couple of friends for acting in it. And I like to see unprofessional people trying to act. But I still think they could have done a better job.
I also noticed 2 things: It looks like they filmed with a slower frame rate because the pictures ain't smooth. I also noticed some farting during the movie which doesn't make any sense. But because of that it's funny.
I'm glad they used their own voices, because it would been worse if they narrated it in English in the way they did with a lot of kung fu movies. I hope they give it another try, and I'll buy that movie too.

Nothing special at all
Ta Kun, a student of Shaolin, is bullied all the time by his fellow students. Ta Kun is forced to leave the Shaolin Temple once a corrupt monk, Hutak, takes over. An elder monk, Hunang, tells him to go to a Wu-Tang style family under the guide of a guy who looks exactly like, or is Ka-Yan Leung aka Beardy from legend of a fighter and the Victim. Ta Kun doesn't like learning kung fu here, so he's got to work a lot. But while he's working he's learning kung fu. In the end he's got to fight the new leading monk of the Shaolin Temple.
This movie is very slow in the beginning and has some typical characters, like the villain monk who's got some big scars at his face. The fighting scenes are not remarkable. 5/10
Sandong muljangsu (1982)
From water girl to kung fu boy
The daughter of a restaurant owner gets kidnapped. The water boy (who's almost a girl because his wee-wee was chopped off) want to free her. But therefor he first has to become a real man with real kung fu skills. So he starts training with an old guy.
As with a lot of movies made by Kuo you can skip the first hour and start where the training sessions begin. Although there're some good fighting scenes in the beginning, the bad acting and humor make you lose your attention and do something else. But the last half hour consists of some good and fast paced fights.
The ending makes me think of Jackie Chan's fearless Hyena, in which first his master gets his peace of action, after which trainee takes over. And I must say that this guy has some awesome kicking techniques as well as his Santa-like opponent. 6/10
Trinity Goes East (1998)
Terrible movie, some great martial arts display.
When the notorious master thief Trinity steals the dragon-ball from Shaolin Temple, Bambino from Interpol get send for to bring him in. Together with his pig Kolonel and Kung Fu Master Wong Rei he gets his hand on Trinity, but there is no sign of the ball. As soon as another gang gets involved to get the Dragonball Bambino begins to wonder why this worthless artifact is so important.
The storyline is simple, the way of acting is bad, the pig is worse (and he plays a big part in it), but the English voices are worst. But still I've seen this movie a couple of times because I like martial arts, and there are some skillful moments in this film. I can definitely say that the group of ninjas are some well trained martial artists.
So I voted a 4, 0 for everything that makes a movie a movie, and an 8 for the martial arts.
Du bi quan wang yong zhan chu men jiu zi (1976)
Standard old school kung with bad fighting
Jimmy Wang Yu has to avenge his families death and tries to find his enemies one after another. Of course he's very cunning and uses his smart tricks to find out where they are. Along the road he finds a girl who decides to go with him because she's got no where else to go. One person of the Chu gang decides to betray his clan and join up with Yu.
Only the last fight is worth watching for the true kung fu fan because the old man at the end has got some skills (compared to Wang Yu), but it still isn't good. I don't get why Wang Yu got to make a lot of movies, because I haven't seen a good kung fu flick with him in it yet.
I noticed that the music in this film was also used in "the mystery of Chessboxing", and since this movie is older, I start wondering where this music originally comes from. I can't believe it was originally for this movie because also the music was used in a very bad way (suddenly stops etc.)
Not worth watching if you ain't a die hard kung fu fan.
Lang tzu yi chao (1978)
Short positive summary
I was a bit surprised that only a few had voted this movie, because it's a great one. The plot is differend from other old school Kung Fu movies, and the action is much better. Especially because of the great Cassanova Wong with his kicking abilities. Also the acting was quit good in comparison to a lot of other movies in the same gerne. Of course the dubbing was bad again. For me 8/10, without Carter (Casanova) Wong it would be an average movie to me.
Knock Off (1998)
Positive reaction
I still don't understand that most people think that this is a bad movie. Up to now I think this is Jean Claude his best. The action is much faster (thanks to Sammo Hung en Tsui Hark), and he's (van Damme) finally making fun of himself. Ok, the special effects are pretty bad and cheap, but inventive. The humor is kind of slapstick humor sometimes, but what do you expect in a Hong Kong movie ? I rated it 8/10. When you like Jeane Claude van Damme, but think he's too slow, then watch this movie!
Chou tou xiao zi (1972)
My opinion and I added some other comments.
I thought it was a good old-school kung fu movie, but I expected a little bit more from Sammo Hung. I agree with the other comment I read, that the part with the cows was the best and original. I've never seen anything like it. I also liked that Shih Tien watched everybody's head to find out if it was Dirty Su. I did not like a lot of jokes, I also think that Yueh Hua (I'm not sure) who played the right hand of Shih Tien is not funny at all. And also the way it was dubbed into English was terrible.
Xiao quan wang (1972)
Actually a good movie
Although I don't really like most of the old school kung fu movies because of the lack of serious acrobatic skills, this is one that made me watch the whole time. It's an entertaining movie with some good action moments. 7/10.
Fang Shi Yu da po mei hua zhuang (1977)
Short reaction
I've just watched this old school kung fu movie. It's not bad compared to a lot of other movies in this style. And indeed, this Chinese girl is good looking. She actually made me think of this woman in Once upon a time in the west who also had such beautiful eyes. Another 6/10.
Shi da di zi (1977)
Not even an average kung fu movie.
It has been a while since I've seen it, but I remember it was badly dubbed, and there was hardly any story. There were a lot of fights though from which none was worth watching for more then one time. Because I like classic kung fu movies I rated it a 6. If you want a great kung fu movie don't watch this one.
Cradle of Fear (2001)
Neutral comments on a nice low budget movie
I just finished watching the movie. I lit a couple of candles, and put out the rest of the lights. I did not really know what to expect, but from the rear of the DVD I could tell it would be ugly. The first half hour was really entertaining, although not really scary, but it gave me great expectations for the upcoming 90 minutes. I was also surprised (in a very nice way) hearing Cradle of Filth, but after a while I got the bigger picture (Dani, cradle of fear, cradle of filth). I have to say now that Dani had better stay to his music then into acting. I have to say that the next 90 minutes where I was looking forward to where not as nice as expected. I liked the leg scene, and the story about the obsessed snuffmovie freak Richard Neilson. But they should've really got rid of the cheap special effects like the car-accident scene.
End conclusion:
The gore was great, especially the belly scene in the beginning. Sometimes it reminded me about the more funny movie "braindead" by Peter Jackson. The actors where lousy, and some scenes should definitely be cut out. But the music on the other hand was great; freaky "quakeI"-sounds, nice drum&bass and some good Cradle of Filth. I gave it a 7 because I prefer sickness and nice sounds above a good story line and expensive special effects.
Shin chôjin densetsu Mataiden 1: Kyô-ô fukkatsu eno inori (1990)
Maybe not as popular as part I, but certainly as good!
I saw not as many people reacted on this film as on the previous part "legend of the overfiend". That's a shame because when you've seen that part you should see the all the next parts as well to get the big picture. Personally I think this is the best trilogy of the series. It is very dark, and some sick people where behind it regarding to the big machine to evoke the demon God. I liked Myunhi Hausen JR. Although I don't think he's cute like some previous reviewer said :-)
Because it's hard to rate only one part of the whole series I just give them all a 9 for originality, story, darkness and drawing style.
Chôjin densetsu Urotsukidôji (1989)
You've got to see them all
I read a lot of comments in which people say that they don't get the story because of weird unknown characters, but when you've seen all four of the series (about 10 tapes) you'll see that the story is amazing. The way of drawing and the Japanese language makes it dark and hard. Maybe the sex-aspect was overdone, but it also makes it funny and like I saw in one of the earlier comments, it's a way of expression in Japan.
It is a shame thought that some people dubb movies, while you've got to keep them in the original state.
I really have to get these movies on DVD and put up the volume because I like the Japanese language and some scenes have beautiful sounds of darkness as well.
Because this is an anime like I've never seen it before, the great story and the hard scenes i'll rate it a nine.
Long teng hu yue (1983)
This is for the Dutch people
The Fearless hyena II as being reviewed here is Fearless Hyena I in Holland which was distributed by Prime Time. This is a big mistake, because Fearless Hyena I (II in Holland) was done by Jackie himself (fighting scenes) and in nr II he was doubled some times and there were even scenes cut and pasted from part one.
Xiao quan guai zhao (1979)
Don't underestimate this movie!
First of all I want to say to the Dutch readers that the Fearless Hyena part I that you poses is Part II in the rest of the world because Prime Time made a mistake switching them around.
Although the story line was bad and some humor was absolutely terrible this movie contains some of the most hard acrobatic skills and it was one of his most energetic movies. I guess that he's been training like a mad person for this movie because it was one of the first movies in which he could do the fighting choreography completely by himself. This made the fighting scenes absolutely awesome and make me want to train myself again.
I saw a comment which says that it looked too much like Drunken Master, but it's Drunken Master that looks a lot like this one because Fearless Hyena was made a year earlier.
