Family Time (2012)
Terrible Representation of a Black Family
I just watched Season 1 episode 1 and 2 and I am not planning to watch anymore. In the first episode, the little girl is distraught because she loses her favorite doll in their move from one community to another. In an effort to overcome her sorrow, she pours a sugary drink into four shot glasses. The family finds her behavior overly dramatic but does not deal with the fact this child is on the path to becoming an alcoholic. Simply... unbelievable. I don't know of any parent who would not find this behavior troublesome. Also, in the second episode, the father coaxes his 10 year old or possibly 11 year old son into spending the weekend with his parents by telling the son that he could find x-rated magazines hidden inside the family's encyclopedia. Again, this sitcom is terrible and degrading. We, as a community, deserve better.
