Speak No Evil (2024)
6 stars for James only
Even though James is one of my favourite film actors, I couldn't help but getting bored while watching this movie. It runs for almost 2 hrs, I kept looking into my watch and phone to see how long does the movie left.
Maybe my fault is that I've watched the original movie before, so I already know how the story goes.
James is the only factor I watch it and keep me from falling asleep inside the cinema. He did well portraying Paddy as a total jerk, i can't stand him at all. He's the type of person I'd constantly rolled my eyes and left him the seconds he opened his mouth. Good job James!
Maybe another contributor that I don't like this movie is the fact this kind of genre is just not my taste. There are a few stupid move/ decisions taken throughout the move from the guest and I can't help but annoyed by them.
6 stars just for James McAvoy and the casts, but nothing special with the stories.
Interceptor (2022)
Bad
Already felt this is a bad one just from the first 3 minutes just and eventually abandoned it around min. 12. Sorry but the directing, acting & writing are so bad I can't stand it. It's one of those movies that the casts do questionable stupid things you can't help but facepalming yourself.
This is bad.
Together (2021)
Brilliant, utterly hilarious & heartbreaking
A dark comedy drama exploring the story of a disfunctiontional couple, who hates each others but stay together for the "sake" of their son, throughout the covid-19's lockdown from 2020 up to at least 1st half of 2021. At first i thought that it's still a bit early to explore this theme, but it's actually a perfect time to release it.
You'll have a good laugh and cry out of this movie, brilliant script and performance from both James McAvoy & Sharon Horgan. It does it feels like a play, since they're mostly involved us into their conversations, they look straight to the camera. At first, it's kind of weird but it doesn't lasts that long for me to be hooked to the story.
1.5 hrs doesn't feels that long, I even surprises when the movie ends because I thought it still have like at least 30 minutes to go. I've re-watched it at least 4 times as for now, and each time it's still gives me a good laugh & heartbreak at the same time. Even if you're not from the UK, you'll somehow still can relate about a few aspects explored in this movie.
It's just good. Give it a try.
Outlander (2014)
Just Not My Taste
Started watching this series out of curiosity with no high expectation a few weeks ago. At first, for a first few episodes on S01, it seems like it have a promising plot to explore with a pleasing visuals. But after a few episodes it feels a bit cheesy (on how they develop the main casts romance) with a bunch of side stories and too many unimportant fan service scenes (??). S01 for me is still acceptable i managed to finished it, but not for S02. They still use the same approach as S01, i only managed to finished i think ep.2 (?? Don't even remember). It feels too much like a cheesy teenage romance drama and somehow reminds me of 50 shades of grey, which made for the sake of fulfilling fan's thirst.
Overall, it's an okay series but if you're searching for a serious/ deep periodic drama, it's not for you. If you like to focus on the romance side and do not bother with the depth of the sories, it might be suits your taste.
Promising Young Woman (2020)
Unexpectedly shocking
I blind watch this movie knowing mostly nothing of the plot or genre, only watch it because I saw Carey Mulligan is one of the cast. I thought it's a romcom, then I thought it's a drama about someone suffering mental illnes, then it looks like a thriller. It's a combination of all of that with an unexpected ending and fun & happy songs. After it ends and the screen showing the casts name i started bawling so hard out of nowhere fir a few minutes. Surprisingly it's not that kind of movie that can cause me bawl like that, i usually okay with a brutal bloody scenes, messed up plot or something like that. I don't know what and why but it just hits me that kind of way, weirdly.
Submergence (2017)
What?
I love James McAvoy, but this is bad. I don't know why James decided to work on this film, the scripts and the direction is all over the place.
I rate it 5 points just for James McAvoy himself, not the film.
Skyscraper (2018)
Bad
At first, i thought it won't be that bad but it is actually that bad. Bad acting, no chemistry between the casts, bad script and shallow plot. I can't even enjoy it at all. So many stupid things occurs and the problems solved (very) easily. I.e. when they got / questioning some problem, they actually answer it right away in a matter of seconds. 🤦♀️
