The Greg Behrendt Show (2006)
Greg Behrendt IS THE BEST TALK SHOW ON TV
I read some of the comments and was astounded to see that the show might not be picked up. Is this correct? GREG fixes things, calls in experts when needed, but has a heart that could not belie anything but an upfront, honest guy. I looked everywhere to contact the producers, but cannot find out how. SO I WILL SAY RIGHT HERE: IF KINDNESS AND GENEROSITY OF SPIRIT MEANS ANYTHING IN THIS CRAZY CULTURE WE LIVE IN==KEEP GREG GOING. He's amazing in his insights and pick-ups of specific patterns or themes of guests. Greg is not "full of himself" and is plain old fashioned lovable. He makes sense out of everyday struggles. The UNCOMFORTABLE PHONE CALL is among my favorite portions, and so very creative. America has so obviously tuned out one and another, with GIZMO-TECH fever--that the direct and kind way Greg interacts is VERY REFRESHING. I try to see him each day. I have learned that many others have the same inhibitions or esteem issues as i do. I connect with Greg Behrendt--because he connects with so many others. YOU ARE THE BEST GREG. maureen
La femme infidèle (1969)
Great, unrealized potential: to be seen many times like kaleidoscope
The Unfaithful Wife seems to be separate, but over lapping stories: like minimally invasive Venn Circles. The premise is divided: France's socially passive nes'pas attitude and fundamental acceptance of extramarital affairs, contrasted with one parties fundamental and conventional recognition of fidelity.
The center piece of cohesion in the film is the married couple have a child. wife learns illegitimate lover also has offspring. This seems to create a divisive consternation within her.
The lover distances himself from attentive loyalty to his progeny, to which the unfaithful wife cannot accede. There is a specific statement made by the unfaithful wife that is the recognition of true separateness from lover back to husband. The end is a surprise.
SUMMARY AND SUGGESTIONS Overall, the themes are humanly dense and rich. But one must repeatedly watch this movie to ascertain the potential motives of each character. This movie is closer to a GREAT DRAWING PROMO or TRAILER, THAN A COMPLETE MOVIE. Excellent diversity of prototypes, realistic themes, very good acting======lacks expressive character depth This final one flaw is equivalent to a hot air balloon, with no hot air. You understand the concept, but never realize its human experience beauty in completion. A B&W remake would be really interesting.
Night Falls on Manhattan (1996)
Must see for any law student:
The plot was predictable; what was VERY good is the realistic sour compromises that atty's make. that alone warrants this movie as MUST SEE for students. I went to St.Johns University (undergraduate legal education), as did Sean Casey (AndyGarcia) No punches were pulled there, and that was reflected in the protagonist effort to make ethical decisions. There was one line that summarizes so much: "...if you want clean hands, become a priest. The degree to which police, criminal attys, DA's and all parties with knowledge about a criminal action get ugly is very true. This hopefully will take the hot air out of many law students, puffed up with him or herself. Well done and accurate, even if predictable. The DEVIL is in the movie detail.
Here Come the Brides (1968)
"HERE COME THE BRIDES" TV: rite of passage for young?
the years this TV show broadcast were tumultuous in our U.S. VN was ending. Nixon got US troops OUT of VN. Nixon, who opened to the US, the inscrutable China will only be remembered for a common illegal practice: __________fill in the blank. He just got caught. POOOLIZE...
HERE COME THE BRIDES took us away from the real world of huge conflict and social misery. HERE COME THE BRIDES presented the consistent, biological adventures of men and women.
HERE COME THE BRIDES diverted me and assisted me to get through the animosity of the times. I imagined characters and the era as an escape route, knowing i would have to put it back down eventually.
Reality was not altered, BUT I DID NOT THROW MY SELF ON THE REAL AND SYMBOLIC PYRES OF FLAG AND BRA BURNERS. This particular show was a reprieve and affirmation that all going on was transient.
It was transient, and i did no drugs, was sexually abstinent, and had both a filial AND COMMERCIAL TV SHOW telling me i was OK.
i hope someone in the cast, crew, production, writer or anyone who worked on this show gets my message. HERE COME THE BRIDES along with my family ALLOWED ME to transcend unhealthy fads and grow past the socio-pathology of those days. YES. THE 60ies WERE A SOCIAL MISTAKE, AND HERE COME THE BRIDES GAVE REPRIEVE TO NON=ADHERENTS. l, maureen
The Piano (1993)
Excedingly powerful contrast statement of time period mores vs lovers
the true to life, minor explicit love scenes are off set by the power of a solitary decision of George to understand 'his' woman's secret passage. He shows himself as dearly man, by using his sleep shirt to wipe down the piano. he takes the bodice of Ada's dress and smells it---this is a realistic practice in heart matters.
the story is based on empathic levels of man and woman on the animal level. the power of biochemical smells (pheromones) are used well in this film. Bains' intent is of a loving, wanting man using a man's mind to barter. The woman understands but is cynical. VERY well done.
you see this movie, you are asked to look beneath cultural veils and to focus on the rawness of sincere passion. this is a "romance" put in perspective". just update the tribal cultural into timeless expectation.
before i borrowed it from my neighbor, i never even HEARD of THE PIANO. Now, i will purchase it: a study in mixed culture with the base (wo)man scenting out versus analyzing situations. maureen
