YOU'RE CORDIALLY INVITED is a total mediocrity with horrendous performances by Witherspoon and mega-mugger Will Ferrell. The script is sophomoric and lacking in any comedic sophistication. Where are the Billy Wilders, Frank Capras, and Howard Hawkses? Contemporary comedies are so concerned with pushing a political agenda in each scene or as the overall concept that all storytelling content is derailed. The characters have no arcs, are unlikeable, and have no logical character progression. Reese Witherspoon attracted to Will Ferrell? A ridiculous and unbelievable contrivance. This flick is just dumb, boring and a waste of money.

Sisterhood is a very dangerous thing in Mothers' Instinct! 2024 was such a terrible year for film and this one also goes into the dumpster column. Why these absolutely gloomy, depressing stories keep getting greenlit is a mystery to me. Seems to me this is a remake with some variations of A MAP OF THE WORLD with Sigourney Weaver and Julianne Moore. Here Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway turn in terrific performances and are the ONLY reasons to watch this morbid saga of lethal suburban blues. Mothers' Instinct posits that in the pre liberation 1960s women were so defined by their roles as mother and wife that without a child or a husband, they were literally erased from their own psyches. Jessica Chastain is an outstanding actress but she's got to find better material!
