The Kings of Summer (2013)
Not s film abort teenagers, it's a boyscout movie.
The film is dreamy, nicely shot and with good young actors. I'm sure we'll see more of the three boys in the future. But this is a film by boys, about boyscout fantasies, for boys. A princess thrown in there for them to fantasize about but obviously with no content other than being just the pretty object of the boyscouts' dreams. So tired of this. But this is what gets funding from men as usual. All the f-ing time. The Hucklberry Finn dream the funders, director, producer etcetera have about what they wish they would have dared to do when they were young. I guess it's pretty good but myself I'm soooo longing for the film, just one please, by and about young women coming of age and not please just centred about dreaming about boys. Im sure the script is out there, unfunded by the men sitting on the money. So no this is not a teen movie or a coming of age movie. It's a boys movie. And yes pretty good but had enough of them. Btw the Belagio(?) boy too weird and didn't really fit in to the rest of the story, could've been tuned down a bit. Good acting though. Liked the father role and the one playing him.
Refuge (2012)
Loved this!
Rarely write reviews but feel I had to counterbalance the bad ones above. I also stumbled upon this one on Netflix. Sure glad it got a second chance there. I completely fell for this movie, it made me cry which hasn't happened in a very long time from movies. Someone complained of its being unbelievable but please which movie isn't, Lord of the Rings?. The most unbelievable part from a non-US perspective would be the parents leaving like that. But that aside I felt the story well written, the characters believable, the acting fantastic and the movie as a whole felt true and well just wonderful. Can't believe the rating (from the very few who seem to have seen it) is so low but note that Im not alone in really liking it. Interesting how people judge films so differently. This certainly struck a chord within me. If you like indie, drama and are a sucker for romance and feelgood don't miss out on this one. Luuuuved it!
Lykke (2011)
A favourite! Watch if you get a hold of it!
I completely agree w Sverker. This series is funny, intelligent and with brilliant high class Danish (and Swedish with the great David Dencik as Anders Assing) actors and dialogue. At the same time unrealistic and completely realistic characters. Hilarious and serious at the same time. Nice intertwining relationships and some cute love stories. Too bad it ended after two seasons but understandable given the ending of it. We just binge watched it for the third time while in bed with a terrible cold.Highly recommended to get in a good mood. Paprika Steen puts as always on a brilliant show as Lykkes mother and the actor who Plays Lykkes boss Flemming is also a comedian genius (oh haven't we all met these silly undeservedly promoted men unable to do their job without the help of women employees...)
