  • Hot Ones Perfection

Loot is a good show, with some predictability, but also a lot of heart and somewhat conventional humour. The Hot Ones segment on this episode is absolutely hilarious though and will take on its own life - the premise of taking arguably one of the best things on YouTube and taking it to the next level of anarchy is genius and gave us lasting massive belly laughs (although Conan O'Brian matched the crazy energy of Maya Rudolph recently when he took on the wings of death - and that wasn't a spoof!). I know, Loot isn't perfect, but what is these days? I know I will be watching this episode again and again, and I won't get tired of it.

  • First Episode With Lazy Writing

The writing on this show has been exceptional up to this episode. Even with the sometimes exaggerated story lines, the writers are doing their utmost to keep the characters relatable, with their actions understandable. Even when the story is at a stretch, the writers put effort into providing context that makes it easier to accept irrational reactions or actions. They also avoid an accumulation of too many convenient coincidences to help the story long. This story line around this episode is the exception. Whether it's a combination of malfunctioning or missing items on the boat, the sisters completely ignoring the option to use their mobile phones, the latest when they get closer to coast, or questionable decisions around a certain handbag - somehow the writing room must have had a bad hangover when they decided this was going to be good enough.

  • Another case of lazy writing

This movie is clearly riding the tail coats of the Die Hard franchise. Unfortunately, it is hampered by very lazy, unimaginative and unrealistic writing. The characters are taking one stupid decision after another to keep the plot going. The main character undergoes a transformation in two hours that is beyond believable, and doesn't make any sense. Jason Bateman as usual is doing a very decent job, but unfortunately that cannot save the movie. Overall, quite the disappointment.

This is becoming quite a common problem with Netflix movies: big budgets, some very decent actors, mediocre CGI, and absolutely terrible writing.
