Peter Pan & Wendy (2023)
Better Than Many Reviews Are Saying
I truly don't understand why this film is being excoriated the way it is.
Maybe slightly politically correct but nowhere near the drivel that most films updated to be PC are.
One reviewer said "updated without over correcting" and I think that's pretty accurate.
Well acted and well directed. Nice visual effects and some heart to the story.
Not a masterpiece by any stretch, but quite good and definitely better than some other adaptations in the past 20 years or so....
The director also made the Pete's Dragon adaptation a few years back that is drastically underrated.
Watch this and you'll see that it's very enjoyable.
America: Imagine the World Without Her (2014)
Fantastic Look at the Good of the American Idea!
I have read so many negative reviews on this film (many of them pure nonsense) that I just don't understand. Is this the best documentary film ever? Hardly. It is, however, a moving testament to the greatness of the American Idea and a thought-provoking counter response to the drivel being constantly spewed by social leftists and the liberal media and academia in this country that we should be ashamed of all the "atrocities" our nation has been guilty of. While it does point out that there have been dark periods in our history, it also uses scenario after scenario to demonstrate how much positive change America (and the American ideal) has instigated the world. It points out that we are not alone in the less-than-illustrious chapters in our history, much of the world was on the same page back then. However, it is also our principles of justice and liberty which played a pivotal role in changing our nation - and indeed, the world - for the better. Perhaps overly-sentimentalized at moments, and feeling a little bit disjointed at others, this film is nonetheless a remarkable gem of patriotism and counterpoint to the liberal revisionist history being disseminated through our schools and media. A great film for Independence Day - or any other day for those that wish to be reminded of America's greatness - and how great we may be again!

Charming Indepent Film
An independent film about...well, an independent filmmaker! Mike Jittlov is a filmmaker who specializes in animation and special effects. This is a light-hearted and endearing satire about the trials and tribulations faced by independent filmmakers in Hollywood. One of the better independent comedies I've seen, this film will make you appreciate all the talent that we so often forget about when watching movies and make you want to cheer for the underdog as he goes up against the system. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, this film has never been released on DVD. But if you still have a videotape player, this movie should be added to your collection right away!
WALL·E (2008)
The People At PIXAR are geniuses....
Just got back from a special sneak peek/advance screening of this movie, and I must say, Pixar continues to amaze. They just can't seem to make a bad move. Heck, they can't even make a mediocre movie. Now, I will admit, there have been a couple that I would classify as my "least favorite" of theirs, but even they were actually very, very good. This one, though...it just may take the cake. Ranks up there with the absolute best they have produced. Hysterical, emotional, meaningful -- this movie succeeds on every front! I am not going to get into spoilers or specific plot aspects, but I will say that I am almost definitely going to see this one again in the theater..and it will be worth every dime. Come Friday, be in line to see Wall-E. You don't want to miss it!
Just My Luck (2006)
Great Romantic Comedy
I am flabbergasted by all the negative comments this movie is getting. This is one of the best romantic comedies I've seen in years and was absolutely hilarious. No, it's not going to win any Academy Awards, and it doesn't have a deep, thought-provoking plot line, but how many RC's do? It was charming and fun. Both guys and gals should be able to enjoy it...it was very funny, and, while it has a bit of corniness to it in parts, it's not over-the-top-so-bad-it-makes-me-want-to-gag or anything like that.
Maybe it was too clean for people? Because you don't get to see them having sex or something, your disappointed? Too bad. There is a sparsity of films that are clean enough for a family to see together. (Or just someone like myself who is disgusted by most of the trash that is put out by Hollywood nowadays.) All in all, a pleasing, funny, clever, family-friendly, film. 9 our of 10!
Sixty Minute Man (2006)
Saw a Preview
My roommate got a call from some market research company and they had him watch this show on an odd cable channel (one reserved for this type of thing, I assume) and then called him to ask him what he thought. I was home, so I watched it, too.
It started off slow and kind of weird but as they show progressed, it became more and more interesting and by the end, I was hooked. I wish they had asked me my opinions because I really liked it. My roommate, however, is not into shows of this nature. He doesn't like his brain to be taxed by plot twists and suspense. Conversely, I thrive on that.
I really hope this show gets picked up for the season, because it looks really promising. I won't give away details, but let's just say that if you like suspense, you'll like this.
Pure Luck (1991)
Funny, funny movie
This is a very funny movie that deserves to rated much higher than it is! I have seen it several times and always laugh hard. It was witty and cleverly written, and I think Short and Glover play very well off of each other (contrary to what many reviewers have said.) The scene in the mission is among the funniest things ever put to film. I don't need to write a book about this...you just need to rent it for yourself and you'll understand. It is a true comedy classic despite being a lesser-known film (like some of the other "bests" I might add.)
While there is not a lot of "substance" to this movie, for pure comedy, it is amongst the best!
