Gone in the Night (1996)
What this family went through was Absolutely Shocking
This was one of the best made for TV movies based on a real life crime I've ever seen.
The acting from all the cast was fantastic and the storyline was absolutely on point. I couldn't believe what this family went through to not only lose a child in such an horrific way but, for the police and prosecutors to then twist everything to form their narrative was just appalling.
This film highlights how Jaclyn's case should be a warning for all law enforcement and legal personnel who fail to do their duty to victims and, the friends and family of those victims. Instead they got tunnel vision, misinterpreted evidence and failed to track down leads and viable suspects.
I would highly recommend this film for any one looking to watch a decent made for TV crime movie and especially, to anyone looking for one that's based on a real life case.
I truly hope Cindi, David and their whole family is doing well and that their future has been much brighter.
What Happened to Bobby Earl? (1997)
A bit Fast paced but still a decent watch.
I came across this movie while looking for new made for TV movies/real life movies to watch based on true crime stories on my prime.
The film based on the real life shocking and ultimately heart breaking murder case of Roger "Butch" Pratt was a decent watch for a TV movie.
The acting was great especially from Kate Jackson who portrayed Rogers' mother Rose Earl in the movie. The scenes she shared with Neal Huff who portrayed their elder son Michael were particularly moving to watch.
The movie at times did feel a bit rushed however, that is sometimes the case with TV movies as they are only given a certain amount of time to cram the content/information into. I would of also, liked to have seen more scenes with Sean McCann who portrayed Mr Earl Rogers' father in the movie and, see how the disappearance and ultimately murder of his son effected him as well because he is a great actor himself.
I'd recommend this movie 100% it's not a bad watch for a TV Movie.
You Belong to Me (2002)
Lesley Anne Down is an amazing leading Lady
This was a great mystery and crime film to watch. I definitely recommend anyone who's a fan of this genre or, if you just fancy watching something different to your usual material you won't be disappointed.
The choice of Lesley Anne Down as the leading lady was an exceptional choice. The acting by herself and the rest of the cast was fantastic and created a more believable atmosphere for the movie which, lacks in other movies/films I've seen recently.
The main plot of the film was interesting as well. The combination of an engaging plot and well acted scenes certainly kept me engaged and, wanting to finished the film to see who the killer really is.
Indulgence (2019)
Interesting Plot
For a film that didn't have a lot of budget it was quite a good watch with overall decent characters and actors that were playing them. Coupled with a decent story as well, I think both the director and producer did a reasonably good job with this film and it's choice of cast.
The plot was interesting and had me wanting to know what happens next. The same can be said for the ending as well which, again left me wanting to know what happens next.
The acting by the main cast was rather decent as well especially, from Joshua Glenister who plays Dakota. If they ever decided to do a second movie to this one I'd certainly watch it.
The Killing Secret (1997)
Glued to the Screen
I definitely recommend watching this movie especially if your a fan of the mystery/thriller genre.
The plot is solid throughout and starts with showing us the popular it couple of cheerleader Nicole Voss (Ari Meyers) and Captain of the football team Greg Dunleavy (Mark Kassen) however, what Nicole doesn't realise is that for months he's been seeing Emily DeCapprio (Soleil Moon Frye) as well. It all comes to a head when Emily tells Greg she's pregnant and after his attempts to persuade Emily to get rid of the baby fail he's left with only one option and that's murder.
The acting throughout the movie from all actors is great. In particular the scenes between the neglected daughter Nicole and Emily's distraught mother Tina played by the fantastic Tess Harper are excellent as, they form a unique friendship both looking for something their missing which they find in each others company.
The film also touches on issues such as class divide and small town influence. I also, like that the writers drop subtle tells that Greg is unravelling as the pressure grows and that they actually tried to humanise the killer in this movie which, is most notable in the final scene which Greg, Nicole and Tina share at the warehouse.
Give this movie a watch you won't be disappointed.
A League of Their Own (2022)
The Peaches are Back !
Let's be honest nothing is going to live up to the amazing 1992 film which, we all love and adore. However, this series does a wonderful job of not just retelling the story of the peaches but putting its own spin on it.
The series plot and storytelling are fantastic which in turn makes you want to route for your favourite character and learn more about each character and their background.
True the series doesn't just focus mainly on the baseball aspect of things I've seen a few people complain about this in their reviews of the series. However, this is because the series highlights and touches on a variety of issues not just pertaining to baseball. These include the usual standout main ones such as racism, sexism and homophobia and also, some issues that don't stand out straight away. Such as, loneliness and what the effect of having someone be told false information consistently throughout their life can do to a person.
One issue that did stand out to me with the series is how the character of Dove abruptly left the show. Another issue not with the show itself but it's creators Amazon is that they really dropped the ball in marketing the show and advertising the show, probably due to them being too preoccupied with that abysmal rings of power anyway...
I really hope the show gets a second season I would love to see them explore more of the other characters backgrounds. True it isn't like the film but, the series carves its own path and it's a good one at that.
If Looks Could Kill (2016)
At times leaves you scratching your head.
By no means is this the best drama by far. To be completely honest I wouldn't recommend this movie at all. The plot is ok at best. The acting and constant goofs are at times so embarrassing you just have to laugh.
The only positive I can say is that Summer Spiro plays an excellent villain but, even her excellent portrayal has Jessica isn't enough to save this sinking film.
Elephant Song (2014)
Wonderful Piece of Suspense Genre.
I found this gem of a movie on amazon prime and couldn't take my eyes of the screen once I hit play.
The acting and the plot were both thoroughly engaging and effortlessly carried out. Xavier Dolan shines in his role as troubled but playful psych patient Michael. Dolan and Bruce Greenwood who plays Dr Greene expertly bounce of each other with their back and forth dialogue. Consequently, allowing the film to move fluently throughout.
Overall, I found it to be an engaging well performed film and would highly recommend giving it a watch to anyone who loves the suspense/drama genre. However, don't watch the trailer as it gives a little to much away and could ruin the suspense feel of the film for the viewer.
Dead Before Dawn (1993)
Made For TV Gold.
I can honestly say this is one of the best made for TV movies I've ever watched. The plot was amazing and had me thoroughly engaged throughout and, the acting from all the actors involved was fantastic especially from the very talented Cheryl Ladd who shines in her performance as Linda Edelman.
Another reason I like this movie so much is that I found it to be so realistic, truthful and at times brutally honest about what goes on behind closed doors when someone is in an abusive marriage like Linda was. It's just a shame a lot of the made for TV movies aren't like this anymore because, if they were I'd certainly be giving out a lot more ten's.
I'd definitely recommend giving this one a watch if you haven't already or, your just learning about it now like I did today you really won't be disappointed.
Vows of Deception (1996)
Not the most dramatic movie but, that's ok.
This movie is a slow burner and, doesn't get straight into the action/drama until way later on in the movie unlike, most films in the drama/thriller genre which, usually send the viewer straight into it. However, if like me and you're wanting to view a film of this genre that offers a change in pace I highly recommend this film.
Granted the film doesn't offer lots of action or dramatic scenes which, may come as disappointment to some and may leave some viewers of the film wishing or wanting that the film had offered more scenes like this. However, I believe this is what helps the film stand out compared to others in this genre and is one of the positives of this film in general. Due to the fact that, as it is a slow burner it allows the viewer to get to know the characters and more specifically the victim in the story which, I think can be lost at times in regard to movies of this genre and similar genres when they're killed off within the first 10 to 15 minutes of the movie.
To finish. If you're looking for something of a different pace to watch but, still want a decent plot with decent acting give this film a try. I'm sure you'll find it's not a disappointing watch.
Dante's Cove (2004)
what a rare gem to find
I just found this campy, intriguing, hilarious gem of a show. Alright some of the acting isn't the best I'll admit that. Also, Nadine Nicole's character Van definitely deserved better when she is arguably one of the biggest fan favorites of the show.
However, I find it to be one of those rare shows that even though you know it's not the best you can't help but keep watching and get invested with the plot and it's wonderful characters like, devilish moon witch Grace played by the amazing Tracy Scoggins which, is exactly what happened to me. I couldn't get enough of Dante's Cove and all of it's crazy mysterious inhabitants that much that I binged watched all three magical seasons.
I also found it refreshing that the majority of characters on the show were of the LGBTQ community which are rare shows to find. It's a shame they never did a season 4 if only to give all of the fantastic characters the ending they deserved.
In My Sister's Shadow (1997)
In My Sister's Shadow is a Movie Gem.
I just watched this movie and I have to say it's one of the best movies (especially made for TV) that I've watched in quite sometime. The plot of the movie reeled me in but, to be honest I wasn't sure what to expect after a few TV movies I'd recently seen. However, I was happily surprised. Not only is the plot great but the acting and storytelling are fantastic as well. It's not just another movie that deals with the usual crazed stalker which you might think. However it's a movie that deals with interesting and complicated issues, emotions and feelings which, are portrayed very well by the main actors of the movie consequently, making this movie even more enjoyable. If your looking for an interesting and enjoyable watch give this movie a chance I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
