I have never been a fan of Barbie: I found her too pink, too clichéd - until I watched this film. As the trailer suggested, this movie is for people who hate the legendary doll, so I gave it a shot. It was worth it: I seldom had that much fun in cinema.
Barbie lives her happy life in Barbieland, but as she develops a human consciousness, she has to travel to the real world in order to restore normality.
This movie is so much more than just funny, as it is political and not predictable. It discusses the influence of the doll on young girls: It criticizes Barbie's stereotypical body while acknowledging her for revolutionizing the way girls saw themselves.
"Because Barbie can be anything, girls can be anything" is said throughout the film. As Barbie taught girls to be more than just mothers, this is true.
Margot Robbie has proved what a great actress she is. That makes her the perfect cast for Barbie, as you take her seriously and sympathize with her. Ryan Gosling as her counterpart is equally fitting. He provides the film with a great sense of humor that will leave you laughing out loud.
All in all, "Barbie" differs from the majority of movies that are produced in Hollywood right now, as it is refreshingly new, funny and surprising. Director and author Greta Gerwig has done a great job creating this hilarious summer movie.

Harvey Weinstein is currently facing charges for his sexual harassments against women during his time as a powerful producer in Hollywood. After decades, the women now can finally get the justice they have been waiting for for so long.
But until The New York Times published their stories, what she said only became a rumour in the industry, a statement that could easily blown away by Weinstein.
The film "She Said" shows how hard it is to speak out against a man that famous, that powerful. It shows how much the journalists did and risked to do justice to the victims. It focuses on the females - the two journalists and the harassed women. She Said does not give Weinstein the room he used to get.
Instead, it enhances that even though it seemed impossible back then, victims do have the power to achieve change. The journalists of The New York Times had the women find their voice again.
Maria Schrader made a quiet but intense film that is absolutely worth your time.

Anna Delvey. Anna Sorokin. The young woman from Germany who fakes her name, her identity, her net worth. Who gets access to the high society of New York, including trips to Ibiza and Venice. Her accent is iconic. So are her glasses.
Julia Garner acts really good, she presents Anna as both a confident and manipulative woman. She even gets to look like the real Anna Sorokin.
Anna Chlumsky succeeds as well. Being the stressed but determined journalist Vivienne, she is the character that is a fine counterbalance for Anna.
All in all a great series. And don't be surprised that people try to enter the VIPs of society. VIP is always better.
