I found the comments extremely helpful and agree with most of what was said. But 30 minutes into this, just my second ever Elvis movie, I couldn't help but be tickled to hear his Southern drawl, see those gorgeous blue eyes and admire for the hundred millionth time that iconically endearing crooked smile. He had it all in spades. Even the beard was a refreshing change. It's a dang shame he didn't have more confidence in his abilities to take total charge of his own (way too short) life. He was always fearful he'd fade away and never be remembered, which we all know now, thanks to Austin Butler and Baz Luhrman, is the furthest thing from the truth.
If it is, it is somewhat misleading. Much artistic license was taken by Baz. That said, what he gives us is Elvis 2.0, a masterpiece for modern times. Austin Butler is absolute cream of the crop EP. Women all over the world of all ages are swooning once again for this uniquely talented artist. No shot was hasty, sloppy, or without effect. Baz hits the mark again and again with another one of a kind at his craft. Austin Butler is destined for greatness.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I was married for many years to a man like Jimmy whose family had come from Hawaii. All our family members characters were captured in this charming whodunit. It was slow and clunky with lots of missteps, gossip and innuendo, just like much of life, right down to the grandpa/granddaughter relationship.
