Smiling Friends (2020– )
9/10
Hilarious! More please!
24 April 2022
Smiling Friends is not this deep, intellectual show that every cartoon reviewer on the internet makes it out to be, but it's still really funny. And the characters are incredibly well written. Especially my favorite character Pim. A happy go lucky guy who just wants to put smiles on people's faces (which is the main plot of the show btw). Charlie doesn't share the same level of youthfulness, but he's still committed to his job no matter how bad things get. It's great chemistry.

My favorite episodes are Mr. Frog, the Halloween episode, and the Dungeon's and Dragons episode. I've binged pretty much the entire season and I would love to see more.

Rocko's Modern Life (1993–1996)
9/10
Brilliant! Absolutely Brilliant!
12 June 2021
Rocko's Modern Life is among one of my favorite nicktoons. I watch both the show and the TV movie on rare occasions. Making both a treat to enjoy when I do watch them. What makes Rocko great is that the humor becomes more and more accessible the older you get. Kids can enjoy the surreal and insane sequences and character designs of Rocko, Heffer, Filburt, and his dog, Spunky, but older fans can appreciate subtle details like Filburt's development into marital life, Rocko's struggles to fit in with society, his close bond with his friends Heffer and Filburt, and of course Heffer's lack of self control. It's a very tightly written cartoon that still holds up today. But my favorite characters by far are the Bigheads: Ed, Bev, and their son, Ralph. The family drama surrounding the three of them is entertaining and also heartwarming. I recommend episodes like "I have no son!" "Wacky Deli" and "Magic Meatball" to people who are new to this series like I was. Rocko is one of the best nickelodeon cartoons and is right up there in legendary status as "The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron" "My Life as a Teenage Robot" and "Danny Phantom" which are also favorites of mine.

The Ren & Stimpy Show (1991–1996)
6/10
In the middle for me.
12 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I give this show a six because I'm one of those people who considers a six out of ten to be a 60 percent. Or a D minus.

Unlike "Doug," "The Ren and Stimpy Show" can be very lacking in substance beyond grossout at times. But the context of the grossout and animation is done for the purpose of conveying the imagery that Ren, Stimpson, or any of the sides characters are feeling. Weather it be in outer space, under some weird mind control, or whatever adventure of that week. There's also at least some attempt at humor behind the grossout jokes. Giving it more leeway than worse nicktoons like Rugrats for example. Plus this show has a great soundtrack that consists of a perfect blend of rock, jazz, classical, and country. So yeah, this show isn't as good as "Doug", but better than "Rugrats".

Oh and to anybody steering far away from this show because of the whole John K situation from 2018, as much of a piece of trash as that guy is, always remember to distinguish the creators from their work. (Though John's actions do admittedly make the sexual undertones of both this show and the Spike TV revival even more disturbing)

Rugrats (1991–2003)

booooooo!

This show really sucks. Angelica was an obnoxious character and I hate how a lot of the episodes focus on her. You may argue that's the point of her character. But unlike some of the characters comparable to her both before or after this show, like Eddy, who has actual motivations for being a jerk, Angelica is just written to be this shows antagonist. I also didn't like how the show introduced characters like Dil or Kimmy towards the end of its run just to avoid creative bankruptcy. And it doesn't even seem like the 2021 reboot will be featuring them. So much for the artists and writers who had to write individual pitch descriptions, character designs, size comparison charts, and all that other stuff just to be thrown away or used eventually POTENTIALLY depending on how well the reboot does. It also doesn't help that the voices for Tommy and especially Phil and Lil are really annoying and gross. And not in an artistic way like "Ren and Stimpy" or a funny way like "Rocko's Modern Life." Episodes will feature the insides of a random characters mouth... and there's rarely a point to it! This show does not hold up from my childhood.

Doug (1991–1994)
7/10
YOU BROKE MY GRILL!?
12 June 2021
With Nickelodeon animation's 30th anniversary on the way, I might as well make these little reviews towards Nicktoons. Some in order, some not.

Doug can definitely come off as outdated now considering all the great shows it inspired in the 90s like "Hey Arnold!" or "Recess" or "Arthur", but it can still be funny sometimes. I like Doug's active imagination and heroism alter egos. (Also this may be a guilty pleasure, but I find Mr. Dink and Roger Klotz to be very funny characters. At least their voices is because Billy West and the rest of the actors are great). The animation reminds me of animated "Clarissa Explains it All." A strange comparison, but that's how I feel when observing the backgrounds, colors, and especially soundtrack. Like the opening theme song. Soooo yeah. Doug is my favorite of the three og nicktoons.

All of these praises however apply to the nickelodeon version. Avoid the Disney reboot at all costs.

Only a Bowser's Fury Review
31 May 2021
Based on what I've played from Bowser's Fury, if nintendo took this route with future 3d Mario games, I wouldn't mind. The music is very diverse and fits the theme of which segment of the game you're playing, the team-up with Bowser Jr. Is interesting for the Mario series, and the collectables feel like they serve a role to the story rather than being things to collect to enter the next level or 100 percent the game. Super Saiyan Mario is also hilarious and badass. This review is more vague because the game is still fairly new.

Animaniacs (1993–1998)

It's that time again!
31 May 2021
In a nutshell, Animaniacs follows the plot of three warner siblings who occasionally run around in the Warner studio to cause nautical chaos. This show has a lot of great, memorable, and even educational music videos. Like the countries around the world, the universe, and fun silly songs like koo koo monkeys. Just like in Tiny Tunes, the animation is very fluid and gag based.

Definitely recommend checking this one out.

Breaking Bad (2008–2013)
10/10
"Better call Saul!"
29 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have a feeling there are better shows out there than Breaking Bad, but this show isn't by any means overrated. In fact, it's still deserving of a 10/10.

The acting and writing is so well done to the point where I genuinely felt nervous when Hank found out Walter was the drug-dealing, murdering criminal he'd been searching for all along. And then proceeded to punch Walt directly in the face followed by pushing him so hard he slams into the garage. It works because everything in Breaking Bad, from the bank robbing, to the meth cooking, and family drama is all grounded in reality. Which helps the audience relate and feel what's going on because it could or probably is happening. You get this sense of underground dark and terrible environments berried in everyday life. And the evil dark sides of common citizens being exposed in the form of the show's protagonist as well as Gus.

That's about as far as I can go for now. And it isn't even CLOSE when it comes o reviewing how great the show is.

Tiny Toon Adventures (1990–1995)
9/10
Great for parents as well as kids!
29 May 2021
I'm surprised my mother got more enjoyment and laughs out of this show than I did. Proving that you're never too old to enjoy good cartoons. The basic outline of the show is younger toon stars like Babes and Buster Bunny going on half hour long, slapstick adventures with a rotating cast of characters. The animation is fluid and beautiful, but the synchronized stunts can be forgettable at times.

Still, If you're a fan of quality programs inspired by Looney Tunes, like Ed, Edd, n Eddy, give this show a watch with your family. They might enjoy it more than you.

The Henry & June Show (1999 TV Movie)
disappointing
30 April 2021
Back in 2016, when KaBlam was gaining attention via the splat, it was one of the best and most creative cartoons in nickelodeon history. I still feel that way for seasons 1 and 2. Season 1 admittedly re-cycled the surprising shorts segments in the first few episodes, but both it and season 2 are still among the best of 90s nickelodeon.

However, season 3 and 4 just don't compare. They're not as bad as other cartoon seasonal rots, but compared to the first two, Henry and June's friendship was more one-dimensional. So when watching the Henry and June show, I was hoping the old character dynamic would be brought back. I was wrong.

Henry went from being a dorky, lovable television geek to a bit of a jerkass starting with the season 3 premiere "More Happiness than Allowed by the Law." June went from being a dainty, "Clarissa Explains it All" level tomboy, to basically the voice of reason out of the two in the previously mentioned episode and to some extent "A Nut in every bite." And unfortunately this tv movie uses that template. Like at the beginning when Henry buys a car with both his and June's money causing June to beat him up in a long drawn out chase sequence during the premiere of their own show (by the way, H&J segments should have never attempted slapstick due to their simplicity in animations contrasting Clampett and Antonucci cartoons).

In a nutshell, this episode is about Henry and June being pissed off that nobody saw their new show. So some kid from the episode "Going the extra Mile" convinces them to go to a school full of rich, famous tv stars like the Olsen Twins. Where they soon realize the life of fame isn't as great as they hoped. This leads me to another problem with this special:

What made KaBlam so unlike other cartoons was the comic book presentation of flipping through cartoons. In retrospect, the series takes a lot of influence from "You can't do that on Television" and "Monty Python's Flying Circus" (being a spin off to "All That"), but it was blend of art-styles and side cartoons that weren't small. They weren't just a student film, but fleshed out mini shows. This episode doesn't have that. Literally.

The Henry and June show banks off of if you enjoy watching a half-hour of these two characters without the added stuff that gives KaBlam a distinct identity. Because of this, in my opinion, The Henry and June Show is not good times. It's understandable as to why this never became its own series. It's worth a watch if you've got nothing better to do, but it's not God's gift to animation. It seemed like just a fun experiment. Honestly I'm more embarrassed by the fact that it's been 22 years and yet their still hasn't been a review for this yet.
