I thought this was about a powerful and smart queen who managed to stay in power by outwitting and outmaneuvering. At least through the first 4 episodes, both actresses' portrayal of Catherine as weak, always confused, and constantly outmaneuvered by her challengers. You keep waiting for when the "real" Catherine is going to show up but so far, she has not. The casting of the young Catherine was terrible and I hoped the older version would mark a change in direction of the show but, alas, that did not happen. And while I'm at it, you would think someone so smart and savvy would be aware of her own "loyal" staff constantly going behind her back. There are many portrayals of powerful, smart, conniving women in history. This is not one of them. Perhaps even worse, it is just boring, and you'll keep asking yourself, do I even care what happens next or maybe I'll just Google Catherine and find out what happened.
I'm half way through the series and so far it seems far more focused on Dela Street's lesbian love affair than Perry Mason who is a pale characture of the actual Perry Mason. He doesn't seem to have the foggest idea of the responsibilities of a lawyer to his clients as Dela has to tell him what they are. This piece of garbage is fully focused on 21st century LGBT virtue signaling than it is making a decent series. It moves so slow you sometimes have to remind yourself what the plot is. It seems the writers must have thought that the fact Raymond Burr was gay in real life requires a rewrite of the show to incorporate LGBT themes which contribute absolutely nothing to the series. I can only hope that they don't incorporate preferred pronouns and a trans character before this abortion is over.
